ConleyKE Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Alright, I'm going to Cedar Point this July and I was just on the Cedar Fair website. What's this Geauga Lake place? I have never heard about it and why did they build a park so close to Cedar Point? Well, anyways I want to know if this place is worth stoping at for a day on the way home (I live in Louisville, Ky)? I visited the website and it looked okay. Please help me!
Guest Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Geauga Lake used to be a Six Flags park. It's about an hour from Cedar Point in Cleveland area. If you want 10 more credits its worth a stop for a few hours and shouldn't take you more then about 4 hours to get home from there.
coaster1 Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Both CP and GL were competitors until Cedar Fair bought GL from Six Flags in 2003. Strange move, but hey .. at least it looks better than when SF ran it as "Worlds of Adventure" or "Six Flags Ohio" ... Also used to be part SeaWorld Ohio.
mcjaco Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 I was just there two weeks ago. 10 quick credits, two of which I thought were worth it. It's probably a little over an hour from CP on the southeast side of Cleveland. Check out my PTR: Geauga Lake Photo TR
ConleyKE Posted June 27, 2006 Author Posted June 27, 2006 Thanks for the help! I'm going to CP with my whole family so now I just have to convince them to take a little detour on the way home. I've never been on a floorless coaster and Dominator looks awesome!
mcjaco Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Dominator is awesome!!!! It's also $25 per person with an awesome water park included.
kennywood!007 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Dominator to me, was the best ride in the park. And also if your lucky the hlding brake on Steel Venom will be on, which I have heard has been for most of the 2006 season. Well if you go have fun, and to me its deffinately worth stopping!
mcjaco Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 ^ The brake was on. Loved Steel Venom but, hate that brake.
TheKlockster Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 I'm hoping to get up to GL on my next CP trip! I am sooo low on credits!
Guest Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 ^ The brake was on. Loved Steel Venom but, hate that brake. Try being a chick and riding with the brake on. OW!!!
kennywood!007 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 The brake didn't bug me, I thought it was cool. Only the one time it hurt.. When my restraint wasn't as tight as before..
coasterbilly Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 i loved it when it was SFWoA, but i'm sure it's not bad now, just thought how pathetic it was how they renamed the coasters, i'll be returning there next season!
CoasterExpert13 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 I think Geauga Lake is a pretty decent park. I've been to the park once for every "name change". It does suck that they had to scramble and choose crappy names to rename all of the coasters. Anyhow, Dominator is awesome, and is also my favorite floorless. Pure fun, definatly a must visit.
kennywood!007 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 The only thing I miss about the SF version is the animals! Oh, and I have a question that anyone if they know please answer! Why did they take out Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall?!?! I just noticed they did when I went this year!
Guest Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 They wanted to make room for that long awaited hyper coaster they are building. Mr. Hyde was put on the market last year along with Demon Drop. The rides were more down then up and running. It wasn't worth the maintenace nightmare. Though I love the rides!! Mr. Hyde was sold I believe for scrap parts for other rides.
Robbie Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Mr. Hyde was dismantled, and the parts are being used as spares for demon drop.
FlyingScooter Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 ^actually, Mr. Hydes is for sale as is Demon Drop. http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=564 http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=565
thefitness Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Im glad i found this thread me and my dad are planning to go up to Cedar Point and now we can get some extra credits... If you have ridden X flight how was it? and is the park normally crowded?
mcjaco Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 ^ The brake was on. Loved Steel Venom but, hate that brake. Try being a chick and riding with the brake on. OW!!! I'll take your word for it! As for Mr. Hyde, I was sad that it was gone. It would have been a reunion, as I had rode it once as "The Edge" at SFGAm in my earlier years....It sucked back then so, I'm shocked it lasted this long. Just be ready to get your ass beat up on Villian. That is the worst ride I have ever been on. ^Forgot about X Flight and the crowds. Like my TPR, the crowds were non existent, which I guess is fairly normal. Of course, we went on a Monday so, it might be a bit more crowded on a weekend. X Flight, IMHO, was just too weird to get a grasp on. It wasnt' bad but, there was nothing that made me get real giddy about it. The harnesses suck and the lift hill into facing into the sun were bad. I pretty much had my eyes closed the whole time because of it. It's worth the credit though.
Robbie Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 "^actually, Mr. Hydes is for sale as is Demon Drop. " I was told that Demon Drop remains on sale, but Mr Hyde's nasty fall was dismantled and some of the parts were shipped to cedar point, as spare parts for demon drop.
