Just my thoughts here.. From a business standpoint it makes perfect sense that they are adding alcohol to the new "high end" restaurant.Serving wine at a french restaurant is like servings biscuits at a southern comfort food restaurant; It's almost expected. It arguably adds to the immersion of the experience for adults as that's what they would expect to be able to drink if this restaurant was actually in Europe. From a family stand point- I don't see much changing here. It's still the magic kingdom. It's still one venue. It's still just expensive beer and wine. It's just another place to eat and another option to drink.. That being said- I full expect this to be the opening of the door for the Magic Kingdom to sell Limoncello at Tony's, Sam Adams at the Liberty Inn, and Space Shots at that restaurant with the weird singing alien (Sorry, I'm feeling too lazy to google).. Is this a bad thing? For me, it isn't. I look forward to drinking Small World Sangria (It sure will make the ride more interesting). For me though, it's still just a strange turn of events. I do expect the fanatical disney mom boards to be aghast with repulsion though in 3...2...1. -chris "lets drink around the kingdom" con

Is it weird that this actually makes me want to take the trip more? While you are running from lava, I'm walking on rides at fuji-q (miracles everyday). -

Seriously. How is this done? Spent some time looking at this.. The way the mirror turns into a door seems to work like this- The top and sides of the mirror's frame has nothing behind it and only moves the width of the frame to open up. The frame gets longer and extends using the stretching room effect at haunted mansion. The bottom of the frame falls into the floors and the piece of wood (chair rail) that separates the portrait is used to make this effect less noticable.. The projection is just your run of the mill digital projection on fast moving scrim.. The "prototype" version of this effect was first used by WDI as the entrance to the parks section of the original D23. I'm sure there are photos of it floating around. Is the mirror seamed or it does it just pull away after the projected effect while the mirror is dark? If you look at the reflection of the lamp in the top center (while the door opens) it actually looks like the mirror is seamed. Though as a practical effect it just makes sense to project the doors opening and then pull the mirror away while it is dark. Edit here's a video of the D23 version

I lost my iPhone on nitro around 9:00am. At 11:00am, I went to the lost and found to file an official claim and they had already found it. They have a dedicated "picking team" that walks the ride paths and collects all lost items. I was seriously impressed that they already had found it. You should contact the lost and found department in person( because you will have to identify something original/specific about your item) as they probably have your iPod . Lost and Found is located on the far north side of main street, closest to Nitro. I believe their operating hours are park open to 5:00pm.

SFOT - You're Fired!!

Fixed ? (via google translate) It is obvious that many people in this thread do not enjoy having their parade rained on. I believe that some commenters relish in the mediocrity of a theme park experience. . In my opinion, any product that you market to the public should be implemented with passion and should not possess "gimmicks!" (unintelligible) I enjoy riding roller coasters, but I believe the parks should provide other forms of entertainment. (unintelligible) If you'd like, I'll travel to Austin on the Blue Bus to show you my opinions first hand. This offer remains on the table! You may either agree with me based upon on your life experiences or you may not. I refuse to apologize for my opinions. I encourage you to grade my grammar. -
Pro TIp: If you are a regional (and not a destination) theme park, you only announce next year's improvements. There is no upside to making people think, " I should probably wait for 2 years for that ride" when the vast majority of park visitors are only there for the day. What the enthusiasts thinks great adventure needs - " The world biggest drop tower" as six flags might be the only major park in the chain that doesn't have a drop tower at all. What the general public thinks great adventure needs -Bigger entertainment and family "experience" options for the non riders and families with young children. What six flags local management thinks they need- Big capacity at hurricane harbor. What we will actually see announced tomorrow...... ?

This plus the black on neon blue you see in the marquee and show scenes concept art just scream TRON to me.. If the Shanghai Tron Cycle rumors ring true, I see this refurb as the BETA ( ) Tron ride. -

Pure speculation here-Could the circular shape of the new marquee and the fact that the first question they posted and then skipped over was about the "home depot style" overhang mean they might be removing it? I'd like to see test track returned to the original, retro, epcot exterior. -
Six Flags Themed Areas: Does anyone care?
Chroniq replied to texcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love theming. I'd rather spend my day at Dollywood, a Disney park, or Universal over a coaster park any day. That being said unless you are going to go all in on theming you might as well skip it.. Green Lantern at GADV? I suspect it would have drawn the same crowds if it had a generic name and no theme. Six Flags could have saved the money on the license and the minimal set decorations and used that money towards the next capital investment. Then there is good theming at Six Flags parks. Arguably, the Golden Kingdom area is a well themed area with original intellectual property. But, since the park itself doesn't have a cohesive story, (ride the movies, we're in the country or the theme park of tomorrow as examples) it was probably a waste of money as it's theming is a visible juxtaposition against the other areas of the park. "Visit Golden Kingdom to get an idea of how terribly themed and disjointed the rest of our park is". I guess my thought is this-Six Flags just "dipping their toes" into theming is wasted money. You either jump in the water and create a cohesive immersive experience or admit you don't know how to swim and impress people with the things you do well. -

I wonder if this news has anything to do with the recent California Adventure redo.. Sometimes it costs a lot to fix whats broken, but in the end it takes money to make money. could "Walt Disney Studios" be the next park to get the DCA treatment if this deal goes through? -chris "thinks they should just have the Oriental Land Company buy out the part they don't own" con -
TR: AJ's 2012 Summer Adventures
Chroniq replied to rcdude's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well said....I should be a bit more definitive. 100% of the people who plan these trips are intelligent. ... Percentage wise- here is how TPR members skew.... 15 percent- REALLY? SERIOUSLY? WTF? 65 percent- Party all the time!.... 20 percent- English is my second language, but I'll still party (possibly even harder).. At the end of the day, It's still a party. -

Actually "OSHA" (OCCUPATIONAL safety and health administration) wouldn't, as we aren't employees of the park; Nor were we forced as employees into a dangerous work environment. That being said, during this tour (which I was on) there was 0.0 (note the point) % chance of any TPR member being injured. You know why? Smart people plan intelligently. -chris "just sayin" -
