  1. --needs more metal detectors .
  2. passengers laying on deck spelling out "HELP" (courtesy of cnn).. Wow. just....... wow.
  3. ^I agree.. being a parent with a young child, I've ridden WAY too many carousels.. This would make the experience much more fun.
  4. ^^Couldn't have said it better myself...... That being said, my wife read this and is now encouraging me to take her out for steak and lobster.. I really I hope I don't end up shitting in bag. (happy valentines day everyone!)
  5. Sorry.. Meant to give credit where credit is due.. www.khou.com and cruisecritic.com .. CNN Ireporter is starting to post stuff too.
  6. I booked an outside cabin with an unobstructed view.
  7. Just turned on CNN and then checked the feed a poster above mentioned.. Is there an "official" reason why the ship is sitting in the harbor and not moving right now? ...... oh wait..... The tug line just broke? wow.
  8. Excluding everything else you've mentioned, the majority of "tenders" aren't going to travel more than 10 knots per hour, so that idea would make no sense. Carnival ships travel at near full capacity, so transferring them to another ship wouldn't be feasible. -chris "I'd never want to be on a carnival ship, but I'd still prefer it over a tender, life boat, or tugboat" con
  9. This image demonstrates the idea of a carousel where each ring can travel at a different speed and the "horses" rotate on their own independent axis which allows the rider to play a shooting a game between the horses.
  10. So here is a really interesting patent application hot off the presses (an hour ago) from Shanghai Disney imagineering. The patent includes a multi speed carousel with interactive elements (possibly a game), where the carousel horses travel at independent speeds from the ride and can even travel backwards.. It looks like in certain implementations you could control speed of your horse and in others there would be a ring based game. I haven't had a chance to read the patent in much detail yet, but to me it looks like a Carousel for the "interactive generation"... Here's a link to the pdf http://www.pat2pdf.org/patents/pat20130040744.pdf -chris-will update as I spend more time reading it" con
  11. "I enjoyed the sailing, I was upgraded from an inside cabin, to an outside tent for free. Fishing poles were provided free of charge"
  12. Totally agree with this. I've started following the discussion over at cruisecritic and there are only about 10 pax that have been communicating with people back home and sharing experiences (mainly through text).. Once the ship docks, expect to see a social media barrage of negative cruise photos on the scale of something that has never been seen before (assuming the media reports are true)..
  13. ^Yeah... From the reports I've read it looks like they will be stuck at sea for a total of three days with minimal facilities. If Carnival was an airline, based upon their recent track record, no one would fly them.... Remember the Costa Concordia? It was supposed to be floating upright before the end of 2012... Here is what it looks like today http://www.giglionews.it/2010022440919/webcam/isola-del-giglio/webcam-giglio-porto-panoramica.html
  14. I've always heard this to be rumor, so I decided to do a cursory internet search and see if there was any published article that actually confirmed it. The only articles that confirm this idea are enthusiast sites... A search of nexis.com comes up with nothing. Here's my theory about this. During the construction and opening of IOA, Universal produced a number of specials shown on USA and the Discovery networks. These specials consistently highlighted the testing and fails of "this new launched system" by Universal Creative Engineers. Since the Universal designers appeared throughout the entire show, enthusiasts inferred it to mean that B&M had nothing to do with the launch and it was designed in house. These same enthusiasts also likely didn't take into account that it makes more sense to have an American designer go on camera than someone like Walter Bolliger due to the language/pronunciation issues (have you seen his interviews?). Even if a separate team worked on aspects of the launch, I'd venture to say it was highly collaborative effort. And that's how the rumor started? maybe. Edit: This is a clip of an hour long special that discussed all of the rides at IOA The two people in this 2 minute clip are seen throughout the hour long special..
  15. The zip file below is a new patent application that Disney recent filed for an improved Pepper's Ghost effect (haunted mansion, plus many other rides).. This gets into the extremely technical realm of how Disney creates their effects. I've got nothing to offer regarding this patent, but I'm posting it here for any engineers that might want to take a shot in figuring this out. pat20120313839.pdf.zip
  16. I've actually seen this happen before.
  17. ^The photo you posted of the Disney patent application is for "The Seven Dwarves Mine Train"
