Infinity Land [RCT2]
dmaxsba2408 replied to Nexy's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
That's the first thing about the coaster I noticed. I remember when RCT2 first came out and I always forgot to bank the sloped turns. It was never an option in RCT so I just never though about it when I would build a coaster. Going by your comments about being more of an old RCT player it totaly fits. -

Here is what you need to do. Go into your RCT2 game folder and manually remove anything you want to keep. Put it somewhere safe. Uninstall everything and then reinstall just RCT2. Stop at that point and run the game. Exit out and make a copy of the Objdata folder and name it RCT2 Objdata. Put in your Infograms folder. Next install your WW expansion pack and when done start the game and then exit out. Now make a copy of the new Objdata folder and name RCT2WW. You have two choices now. You can keep the WW folder just for WW items or leave the RCT2 items in with them it's up to you. I have mine separated by game version. Here is how you do it. This is also how you keep items downloaded with parks separate from those that came with the game until you have a chance to look them over and decide if you want them taking up space in your game. 1)Make a second backup copy of your plain RCT2 Objdata folder and leave it open. 2)Open you RCT2WW folder and hit Select All. Then hit copy. 3)Get your plain RCT2 folder up on top and hit Paste. 4)It is going to ask you if you want to replace files with new ones. 5)Hit NO 732 times. Just keep hitting real fast you'll be done in a minute. 6)Since you hit no all the new files should be below the ones you said NO to. Those are your WW items. 7)Delete everything down to the WW items and that is all the files that came with the WW disc. FYI - there are 732 RCT2 items, 712 WW items and 638 TT items. Now if you take the time to make a temporary backup of your Objdata folder as you start to download parks and follow the steps above you can remove all the normal DATs and have all the new ones you just recieved from a park sorted out so you can use a preview tool to see what they are and if they are worth keeping. If they are worth keeping put them into a keep folder and add them back into the Objdata folder you use to play the game with. This MAIN folder should also have a backup to it in case you mess up some where and the backup needs to be updated whenever you find new items you want to keep. I know all this sounds like a lot and to be honest it is at first. Once you do it a few times you get really fast at it and you done in a matter a minutes. Below is a DATCHECKER tool. You can use it to quickly go through DATs and see what they are. Just be patient and let it load, it takes a little time for it to check everything. When it is ready the CHECK button will light back up. DatChecker.zip -

^ Yes they are all in your computer now. Be Careful of custom content. It is not always good and you can end up with a Objdata folder full of crap that you will never use or for that matter even want. Always keep a backup of your Objdata folder without any custom content in it. As you get custom content that you like make another copy under a different name and update it when more new content that you like is added. Use the custom content backup to replace any object mistakes you may run into after downloading what you thought was going to be a nice park. Just remove your RCT2 Objdata folder to the recycle bin and replace it with your custom content backup. If something really bad happens like the flashing load bar of death, you can use your original (no custom anything) backup to save your game. I wish you luck on quest for RCT2 objects they are getting harder and harder to find. Also remember that most custom made rides and some stall will not export with a park so if you download a park with an extra set of DATs in it you must put those in your Objdata folder by hand. -

dmaxsba2408 replied to Pingu1651's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I have to agree with Pingu1651, realism over ratings every time. I see those parks on YouTube filled with crazy out of control coasters and just roll my eyes at them. No offence to anyone intended. While it is fun for awhile to build such things just to see what kinds of ratings you can get it really does nothing for building up your skills in the game. The games rating system is so flawed anyway. Things that should be exciting are not (Launched Free Fall Towers), things that are never nauseating in real life are over the top on the vomit scale in the game (Suspended Swinging Coasters) buts things that should be aren't nauseating at all (Twister Coasters with 7+ loops). The intensity levels are just a stupid. I don't ever worry about the Excitement when I build rides, I just try to keep the Intensity and Nausea down to a level that will make the RCT guest want to ride while maintaining a realistic look. I always open parks up to guest so I always make sure they are happy. Anyway, happy to hear your going to a little green back on the map, that was all I wanted. Just a little here and there. -

I agree those corkscrews look great. You need to bring the footers above the water on your coaster. Metal supports never touch water like that. I also think since it is an early Arrow the banking at the top of the lift is not needed. As for the vomit I'll go with 5 years. -

^^ If you have no rides then going back into the editor is your best option like djbrcace1234 said. However the path is Infogrames Interactive not Hasbro. If you have already built the rides and do not want to start over you can use 8cars to try to fix the issue. This does not always work but it's worth a shot. 1)Save your game and then load it in the editor. 2)Put your map entry point(s) on the map where you want it/them to be. 3)Open 8cars and hit the Park tab and then open Change Guest Entry Points. 4)Write down what the number are in the box just as they appear. 5)Exit out of the editor program and CLOSE 8cars. 6)Load your saved game version of the park. 7)Re-open 8cars, hit the Park tab again and open the Change Guest Entry Points. 8)Take numbers you wrote down and put them the box and hit Apply. 9)Go back to your game and see if it worked. If it didn't work don't give up just try again and if that doesn't work remove your game disc from the computer, put it in the toaster (light brown setting). When it pops up put some REAL ( -

^ There are many ways of doing this one of the best is to follow the instructions for it over at New Element. You can also switch your RCT2 game over to RCTModified. Two links for it can be found HERE about the 7th post down. If your not familiar with what RCTModified is, it is basically a completely different version of RCT2. This is done by replacing the games G1 file. Please make a backup of your games normal files and put them somewhere safe before you switch over. -

^ & ^^^ Figures! I don't know whats worse Vista or Windows7. They both seem to be incapable of doing the simplest things! RCT and 8cars are such simple programs. You would think such advanced programs would run them very easily. Why is it Windows98 and XP are the only versions that didn't screw everything up? Anyway, at the top left of this topic is a search function that only searches this topic. The search on the top right does the entire site so don't use that one. You will find all kinds of information about Vista and Windows7. Type in "Vista Screenshots" or "8cars Windows7" and see what you get. There also several topics at NE about problems with Windows7 so you might want to do a short search there also. I did the Vista one and got the quote below. Go to the screenshots folder and at the top of the window, there should be a "Compatibility Files" button. Press it. Photos magically appear. Anytime you don't see files where they should be, chances are they are just in the Compatibility Files area. It's Vista being more complicated than it's supposed to be. [the actual location of the Compatibility Files section is extremely obscure...which sucks] -

I am a bit concerned with the super wide paths in places and the lack of any green land. Even in the desert, a theme park would have some grass areas. They may pay out the butt to keep it watered by they would have it. Good start to your new park. -

dmaxsba2408 replied to Stoksy's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
If you are done with it and just don't want to mess with NE by all means release it. However, it may win and may not but it could be fun for you to see what score you get anyway. At least you will know where you stand in terms of how well you have improved over other rides you submitted. I do understand if you don't want to mess with all the attitude over at NE. I am really debating if I will ever send anything in to them ever again. There are some really great people over there and some real jerks who seem to have free run of the place. -

^ that's a good idea I think I will put it in there. So I take it 8cars and Windows is still causing you issues? I posted the entire set of catwalks one page back if you would like to skip the trainer use and just go with the scenery. They do look really nice in game. What link are you referring to? Were you able to make an since of the old patch?, any chance of it being modified for RCT2? Thought you were going to send me some pictures of your park(s). -

^ All kinds of LOTR items like scenery, parks and rides can be found at RCTMart. It is a lot of stuff and all very well done! The parks are in scenario format instead of saved games and loading each one is how you get the scenery for that part of the collection and each one also shows you how the items look built up in the game. ^^,^^^,^^^^ and ^^^^^ Some of your thoughts on how the game operates are true while others are not. Yes its true when you have park that is built up before you open it most if not all guest will go the the best ride in the park and then disperse throughout the park from there. That is still true in the game years later also. If you pay attention to new guests coming into the park at lets say year 5 you will notice that most guests will still head to that one "GOOD" ride first. Yes advertising does work, and mixing up the different types of advertising works best. Run a 6 week for the park, then a few weeks into it do a ride or food promotion, maybe just as the first one is about to end toss out a half price entry to the park. Each one will increase attendance so if you want a lot of guests all at once do them all at once if you want a steady pace of guest entering the park do it as suggested above. New rides vs old ones, well of course a new ride will usually be more popular than an old one. Not always the case though. It was mentioned that you can make the guests think a tracked ride is new again by removing a section of track and then replacing it, unfortunately that is not true. Once the ride is open it will continue to age no matter what you do unless you use at trainer to stop or reset the age. Removing and then replacing a section of track only resets the rides statistics. If your having problems getting guests into your park and you have no room to add more attractions and you don't want to use a trainer to "TRAM" them in is to remove a flat ride then replace it with one just like the old one. The guests in the game don't care that you replaced an old Carousel with a new one, all they care about is that you just built a "NEW" ride. The most important thing you can do to keep a park full of guests is to make sure that the park rating stays at 999. Once it drops below 700, new guest arrivals to the park are cut by about half and for for every 100 point drop after that cut it in half again. Word of mouth advertising by guests leaving the park is key to the generation of guest entering the park. It's one of those little things in the game that goes on behind the scenes that you DO have control over by keeping park guest happy. If you want some interesting reading about how the game works and why you really should check out The Definitive RCT Reference Guide. Yes it is for the original RCT but 99% of what's there is still the truth for RCT2. Very informative and also just interesting facts and figures you might enjoy knowing about the game.
