Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
scottjenkins replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Apologies for the short post earlier. I was so excited after seeing LOADS of new shiny grey track I had to upload on my phone ASAP. Had a brilliant day at thorpe park today, however the queue for admissions was HORRENDOUS and we queued for 40 minutes just to get into the park. Once we were in however, the queues were non existant for Saw The Ride, Saw Alive, Colossus, Nemesis Inferno and all the flats however due to the 26 degree heat, Tidal Wave and Loggers Leap were in excess of 30 mins. All coasters were on maximum train operation, Collossus and Nemmie running both and no stacking whatsoever. The op's were on top form (which usually isnt the case). Stealth, Slammer and Storm Surge were closed all day but Storm Surge opened at 2pm causing HUGE queues. Apparantly Stealth hasnt been running for 4 days and they are awaiting a part from Intamin........... This did dissapoint me as Stealth is my favourite ride at TP and the majority of times I visit it's down Tidal Wave gave GREAT views of the new ride (but impossible to take pictures of the site because I wouldnt risk taking my phone on Tidal Wave coz it'll get ruined). The footers are in and as i posted earlier, there is LOADS of track on site. The station track is in place and the shell for the station is also built. I'd expect this thing will fly up over the next 2 months. The entrance is also now sporting a huge tank with "WAR IS COMING" spray painted on the side! Excited much!!!!! -

Bonjour! I'm planning a two week trip to the good old U S of A in September 2012 and have decided on visiting Ohio to get a few days in Cedar Point. I'm just curious as to what I can do after that....at the moment I'm thinking maybe visit Kings Island then fly from Ohio to Virginia and get BGW done. Can anyone offer advice on firstly, best time of year to visit CP, don't wanna travel all that way and queue for hours and secondly, can anyone think of any other park around that area I could fit into my vacation. This is my first trip to America outside of Florida and am literally buzzing with excitement! Thanks folks Scotty J

Best day for Thorpe Park

As the kids are off every day is going to be heaving! Id be expecting at least 60 minute queues on Saw, Stealth, Colossus and Nemesis Inferno. Although I NEVER buy fast pass, I'd buy one if I were you because believe me, It's going to be very busy!! Enjoy! -

The first looping roller coaster in Europe was The Revolution (now Irn Bru Revolution) at BPB which is an Arrow Shuttle Loop. I LOVE these rides, it's sad that there are only a few left -

Oblivion does really well with crowds and in the height of season where rides like Air, Nemmie and 13 have 2 hour queues Oblivion usually has less than 20 mins. However, The track is significantly shorter than X Raptor appears to be and they have 6 trains which are very quick to dispatch. I Don't think we'd be able to compare dispatch times between the two im afraid. -

Sorry if im being dull folks, What acceleration method is used on this beast? It sounds like an accelerator when it rolls into the launch point, you can even hear what appears to be the dog dropping down into the catch car like KK, TTD etc? -
Best coaster ride when raining
scottjenkins replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I rode PMBO in the rain which was pure unadulterated torture however I was lucky enough to ride Oblivion at AT in a blizzard two years ago, quite possibly the most amazing experience ever! Diving into the hole the same speed as the thick snow was awesome but comingback out of the tunnel and having that snow smash into your face was A-to-the-Mazin! -
Are you indicating that you hve at least found a Mr Right? Because if you have then thats just totally unfair! I shouldn't be bitter, mines out there somewhere he's just currently confused and dating Angelina Jolie!

Ive just realised, look whos at the entrance to Spinball..................Its one half of the Alton Towers duo that auditioned on The X Factor! See! See..............It's him.........Obviously his singing career didnt take off.

Legendary response mate! You can have the blonde pippi if it gets her off my hands!!

The only thing that makes me otherwise is that you can clearly see the points on the track where they have welded and reinforced the track. This is now bright silver which totally outshines the old rustic theme.
-
I honestly dont know dude, when it was built, it had a "rustic" paint job, i think over 15 years its weathered and looks better now than it did before! I totally cannot answer if they maintain its "old" look or they just let mother nature do its bit! Thanks for the comments tho fella!

Alton Towers Discussion Thread

Jmicha I totally didn't look at that! If they were spinners then there would be no point in having a backwards section!!! I gotta say well done to AT for keeping this such a mystery but I'm bursting to know what it's gonna be -

Howdy boys and girls! Just got home from an action packed day at AT! I was really excited to see the construction site for SW6 however I was left dissapointed! From seeing the site up close and personal, it's pretty easy to accustom yourself with the "front" part of the ride. The station building is getting quite tall now however the only track pieces installed in the building are the station, the second tyre lift hill which reaches the crest and bends to the right (the track stops here as it leads into the "worlds first" part of the ride which I assume will not be completed until the outer facia has been completed, or the park closes for good resulting in nobody getting a glimpse before the official launch!). Whilst riding Rita, you can see that directly underneath the upper station entry track you can see the feisty backwards drop going into a ravine which then leads into a large right banked bend also built into a ravine. This ravine will eventually return to a switch track then into the station. Upon speaking with a member of staff on Air he stated that all the staff do NOT know what the ride will be. All they know is that it's Intamin and it's height restriction is going to be 1.2. In his words "I don't think it's gonna be a big one coz the big ones are all 1.4". He also stated that rumour between staff was that it was to have 4 seat spinner cars like spinball. I can only assume that it's a glorified version of Tornado! I am aware that this is totally 100% speculation and hearsay proves nothing. After visiting the site I am a million percent sure it's a worlds first coaster (possibly spinner) with a backwards vertical switchtrack section (I don't mean this is a vertical drop I mean it as apposed to a horizontal switch. I'm thinking that once the train re-enters the station building, it will hit blocks, from here, the rear end of the track will pivot to 45% angle and connect with a segment of track directly underneath. The blocks will then be released and train will travel backwards backwards down the slope and then down the twisty backward drop. Jeez, I hope this makes sense, it's hard to describe what I've seen today! What's your thoughts on the Intamin Spinner trains? I personally hope they are, that or mega lite trains! Oh, and keep your eyes posted for my Photo TR, I'm too tired to do it tonight and am off to bed! -
