  1. Here you can see another picture of the removal and how the turnaround section on the flume is missing: Source: CAPTE.org
  2. No! The log flume is coming back in 2011. The only part that needs to be redone is the last turnaround before the big drop. In fact, the Park has already ordered the pieces to Reverchon. I guess they will also have to inspect the foundations of the log flume to look for potential damage from the weight of the arm falling on the turnaround. All boats were operating but when PNDOL collapsed but the ride operators did an E-Stop that saved at least 4 people. There was a boat *this close* to enter the last turnaround when the ride stopped, and the previous boat had already hit the splash zone, so the Park was lucky enough in that way. Immediately after that, the flume was evacuated starting from the log on top of the second lift leading to the last turnaround.
  3. Update: Just a month ago PNDOL collapsed leaving 3 injured and 1 dead and splitting into two the last turnaround from the log flume ride. 3 investigations were set: one by the Park, one by the City Hall (owner of the Park) and one by the Police. The investigation carried by the Police has already concluded but there are no public results yet. Besides, on Monday 23rd of August works to remove the ride started and, as of today, the ride is no longer in the Park. Even with the removal of the ride, the City Hall will keep the whole ride locked if any of the parts need to be reinspected to look for further evidences. Here you can see the last piece from the flume ride "La Mina d'Or" taken from the so called "0 Zone": In a recent press release, Park President Saura Jaurrieta announced that the Park won't be placing any thrill ride in the spot were PNDOL stood. Instead, the Park will build a family attraction to "allow parents to interact with their children". I don't know if that means a ride or just a sort of interactive playground. Let's hope it's a ride since Tibidabo is lacking in the rides department and they are running out of space to expand...
  4. The thing with stand-ups is that they take too long to load (even with a fast crew) and the amount of stacking doesn't allow a smooth 3-train operation. So, if they can achieve the same capacity using only 2 trains, why using 3 when you would have the 3rd train waiting in the brake run most of the time... And, about the 3r train on Chang, it was probably dismantled and used for spare parts for the other 2 remaining trains. Hasn't this been the case with other rides having multiple trains?
  5. "PNDØL" or "Pèndol". The ride was called BOTH ways, but not "El Péndulo" which is the Spanish translation.
  6. Pyrenees is the only B&M inverted rollercoaster with a 130cm height limit while the others have 140cm. Superman at Parque Warner (Spain) used to have a 120cm (48 inches) height limit when it opened. Batman, at Warner too, used to be 130cm (52 inches). But I agree with everyone else. This modification doesn't look very B&Mish... it couldn't look worse.
  7. I don't know if someone else noticed on the video but aren't the trains on Oblivion not stopping before the drop anymore? From what I saw the train barely stops and then just drops. Isn't it meant to stop for 3 secs or so?
  8. Wow! I am so glad to see more old observation towers getting the "Scream"-makeover. Surely 146 meters is not the entire drop. Maybe something ranging from 90-100 meters is more feasible considering that the top speed will be 110 km/h. BTW, why is Intamin changing their restraints on their drop towers as well? Duh, these restraints look like those used on ZacSpins...
  9. These people from Holiday World are AMAZING. How many parks would do that? Someone correct me if I am wrong but aren't the trains on Voyage 7-car long? Are they just leaving both PTCs with 6 or are they going to run the original Voyage train on 7 cars and the refurbished one from Raven on 6? Thanks for clearing that up!
  10. Wow, really? No airgates even on "newer" coasters like Phantom's Revenge? I know some parks don't use them on old Vekomas/Arrows and people are just fine without them but Kennywood being an American park I thought they would try to avoid any possible lawsuits from stupid riders steping when they are not supposed to.
  11. Offtopic but, why is it JUST the very first ride? Aren't these trims always on? Harder or softer, they'll always grab the train. And the 4-boat thing. Maybe CP only has 4 right now and they will try to run the ride with more boats as soon as the rides proves to be reliable enough. I mean, 4 boats would mean only 40 people per cycle (that if all go out full). If a cycle takes up to 3 minutes, that's "only" 80 boats an hour... 800 pph. If I remember, the ride stats said STR would have a capacity of 1200 pph.
  12. When the Park opened Busch had some shares, just like Tussaud Group. But then "La Caixa", former main shareholder, bought Busch's and TG's. That's the reason why the park is so similar to Busch Gardens Africa (Khan, for instance) and the reason why Stampida is there (that wooden coaster was meant to go to Alton Towers). Hopefully, the'll pull this project better than the lackluster conversion of Sea Odyssey from a regular sim-ride to a 4D cinema. According to the original plans this area will feature: - A train station. - A coaster (well, this would be a re-themed Tami tami, the park's roller skater). - A truck ride - A jet-sky ride - Some sort of kid's freefall ride - A couple more of spin rides, all aimet at kids/families. - A big restaurant coupled with an open-air theatre for Sesame Place shows.
  13. For a split second I thought you were going to say there was a cred at the fair named "Manta" which had a preshow about Sharks and Stingrays Great TR! I absolutely *love* Fabbri drop rides. Despite being only 35 meter they give a very solid ride and if the carnie is running them on manual mode, it's even better!
  14. Paris - BTM. I mean the third and last section. I know the drop might not be that exciting but accelerating in the dark is pretty disorienting! Honorable mention to Oblivion. From the top of the drop it doesn't look the train is going to fit. Pretty scary
  15. Wow. They've done so much work in just *two* weeks...
  16. Best standard log flume would be Teufels Fasser at Holiday Park. 3 drops, one backwards and indoors. Best themed log flume: Rio Bravo at Parque Warner Madrid (that if all effects are working). Worst log flume: Any of the Reverchon models. They look cheap and tacky and the vehicles are uncomfortable.
  17. ^Has it broken during testing or hasn't the second train ever tested at all? If it broke during testing, that's fine but if they knew the train was to be fixed beforehand then I blame the Park for not putting the effort to get it ready for opening.
  18. It's called "Flight of the Phoenix". For me: 1- Mystery Castle, Phantasialand 2- The Hangman, Movie Park 3- Scream!, Heide Park 4- PNDOL, Tibidabo 5- Hurakan Condor, PortAventura
  19. I honestly don't know. It's been around for quite a long time but I haver never seen any sign saying who manufactured the ride. What I know is that it's counterpart in Zaragoza (Rameses) is manufactured by Safeco, a Spanish company that also makes the popular bouncy-bouncy rides.
  20. Last instalment: After getting our share of rides, we had to go check out what was going in the tents. Of course, being at the Spanish April’s Fair you need FOOD and other crazy stuff. There were like a million tents with food including tents where you could find “paella” (Spanish dish made of rice and seafood). There were also tents JUST to dance flamingo and Sevillanas (Spanish dance). We visited a place where they served wine. It was not the wine that took us there (well, maybe yes! LOL) but there was one animatronic in the middle of the stall pretending it was making wine! Raul decided to give it a try. For 1 € he got a shot of wine AND a small tapa. Cheap alcohol + rides = yeah! Speaking of food. We found this tent where they sold these huge candy sticks. Needless to say we *had* to buy one! If you are at a fair in Spain you MUST EAT CHURROS. Want to check a big Spanish churro? This one's at least 3 meters long! While heading out we came across this. If Dick Kinzel had been there, he would probably have had a heart-attack. Cedar Fair's worst nightmare come true. We all had a blast! I think we left at about 2:30am and rides were still running at full capacity. Thanks for reading! Hope to you see you there next year
  21. More pictures: There were plenty of Bouncy-bouncy rides. 3 adult-sized Bouncy-bouncy and 2 kiddies. #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 And of course there were *3* kiddie credits. They were shut but since I had them all it wasn't a big deal Huh. wait a minute. What is that I see? A balloon attached to the end of the train? LOLz WTF!!! Kiddie cred #2. If you look closely you can see it's a Beauty and the Beast rip-off. Kiddie cred #3. There were classic rides like The Whip (although this one terrified me since it looked it was going to derail ANY TIME!) and... The Train ride with the molesting Witch. Seriously... this is one messed up ride. Kids ride this "gentle" ride and out of nothing comes a scary witch with a Freddy Krueger mask and hits them with a broomstick! LOL Finally, we got to the section of the fair where there was the unique V-shaped shuttle coaster simply called “Uve” (which basically means “V”). It’s a torture device, I mean, a ride, that slowly climbs the back spike, then releases the train, and it goes back and forth for what seems an eternity until it stops. Pretty impressive to watch, not so enjoyable to ride. Catch-car fans get tissues right now! The "V" was next to the big-ass wheel! It's amazing how can people transport and build such big rides so fast... this thing has to be at least 45-50 meters tall! No fair would be complete with a cheap-looking dark ride. But if your dark ride is 3 stories high it enters a whole new dimension LOL It really is tacky and not scary at all.
  22. Here comes this time of the year when fairs start touring Spain. One of the first is April’s Fair. In fact, this one is split into two big fairs far apart. The one in Seville is the biggest of the two although in Barcelona we get a fair amount of rides and craziness too. So, April’s Fair takes place from the 23rd April to the 2nd or 3rd May. In my case, I visited the fair with some colleagues from Tibidabo, the Park where I work. After we finished our working shift at 9:30pm, we went down to Barcelona and had our share of food at McDonald’s. While we were eating it started to rain. You would think the rides would close, huh? NO! In Spain, fairs operate rides even if it’s pouring rain. If you are willing to ride, you’ll get your ride as long as you pay. Onto the photos. Most of them are blurry/not really great. It was not my camera and my skills are not the best so… Laura and me! Little does she know what's about to begin... We started wandering around seeing what we got this year. The ride selection was good although some of the kiddie credits were shut! Still, we found the Top Scan and the world became brighter. This is my #1 ride at the fair since every cycle can be totally different depending on the skills of the ride operator and the weight distribution. There's the entrance! On entering we saw the stand-up Swinging Ship. I think Spain is the only country that allows these models with jails. You just need to be in good shape to hold on for dear life since there are no restraints in these cages LOL The KMG Frisbee seems like the most "meh" ride compared to the others... So here comes a story. We were about to buy our tickets to ride the Top Scan when there was a blackout and people were left stranded just when they were to start their cycle. We shot a video of that. I’ll try to upload later. The thing is that once they got the power back up they didn’t even lower the arm and checked everything was OK. They just ran the cycle with people on it! After that, we got our intense cycle. We went past the Stand-up falling Star, which by the way, looked it was about to collapse. Just look at the angle! It runs an insane cycle and people seem to love it! BTW, for those who ask, those cameras next to the jail are realy CCTVs to watch out for bad behaviour. The fog on the dodgems was SO thick you couldn't see anything. That was one of the big credits. A standard Zamperla spinning coaster. Funny thing is that at the end of the ride there's a tunnel in the shape of a cat’s mouth eating your car. There was a portable rapids ride. Not too exciting but still quite wet and can be fun with friends. Here is the new ride for 2010 at the fair. The KMG Inversion called “Mega Extrem”. Basically, it’s the love child from a mini-top scan and a KMG Frisbee. We rode that and got a really long cycle (by long we mean it took about 7 minutes!!). The gondolas spin freely until the ride reaches 90º. Then they are locked into upright position and then you start your regular Frisbee ride although this time going upside down. Pretty intense ride but nothing to write home about.
  23. I guess as long as your are willing to pay for it, you can go as high as you want. And no, Starflyers normally go up very slowly while starting to rotate, then stop on top going at top speed. Some of them then go halfway down the tower, go up again and then go down to the base. But there's no "drop" involved. It's just an adult-sized wave swing.
  24. I don't know BGE but wouldn't a 260 feet castle look a bit too dominating and odd? Still, if they can pull something along the lines of Mystery Castle, they'll have a winner. I absolutely LOVE that ride and the fact that it's indoors makes the drop seem larger than it actually is. Plus the capacity would be on pair with the other major rides at the park. Makes sense to me.
  25. Since there are two separate loading bays I assume they'll do it like on Maverick.
