Female themed coasters
USRoadTripper replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't really think a coaster named Black Widow would be necessarily female since it's themed to an entire species of spiders, not an individual female one. I'd say the same thing about Shamu Express, since Sea World tends to call all the Orcas born in their care "Shamus". Each whale has it's own name, and there has been at least one male Shamu (Keet) born to Sea World. Same goes for anything named Ladybird, Ladybug or any any form of that name in a different language. They all refer to a specific species of animal, not one individual female animal. And Nessi at Rhyl Promenade, Wendy Glide and Steel Stella are all defunct according to RCDB, so I didn't include them in my list. And I don't find a listing for "Catrina"...can you link us, Mike? So it looks like we need to add to the list: Queen Bee - Center Norte Nessi Coaster - Al-Sha'ab Leisure Park This is almost as good as the "Credit/Not a credit" debate! hahaha Any others? -Julie -
Female themed coasters
USRoadTripper replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I want to say that I remember seeing directional signs with "Lola" and "Stella" on them when you got up under the station in the queue. Not sure if I am remembering that from more recently, or from their Twisted Sisters days. -Julie -
Ok, I was bored tonight and decided to browse through RCDB in an attempt to find female themed coasters. See if there are any that I missed. Obviously female themed coasters: Medusa - Six Flags Great Adventure Medusa - Six Flags Marine World Medusa - Six Flags Mexico Poison Ivy's Tangled Train - Six Flags New England Sky Princess - Dutch Wonderland Twisted Twins (Lola and Stella) - Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Queen Bee - Botton's Pleasure Beach Rita - Queen of Speed - Alton Towers Gadget's Go-Coaster - Disneyland Gadget's Go-Coaster - Tokyo Disneyland Venus - Space World Regina - Tobu Zoo Park Probably female, but depends on what you call theming: Nessi - Coney Beach Pleasure Park Nessi - Ocean Beach Amusement Park Nessie - Hansa Park Nessie - Luneur Loch Ness Monster - Busch Gardens Europe (The Loch Ness Monster is generally considered to be female. Is the coaster having the same name as a female critter good enough to be considered a female coaster?) Kraken - SeaWorld Orlando (Kraken can be both male and female, but this one has eggs in the queue. Does that automatically make it female?) The "Jeff Johnson" female coasters Hello Kitty Angel Coaster - Harmonyland Hello Kitty Angel Coaster - Lina World Hello Kitty Angel Coaster - Seibuen Yuenchi (Are the Hello Kitty coasters based on the single female character, or on the entire product line? If Hello Kitty is the only character on the ride, I'd consider it female. If all the characters are present, I'd consider them gender neutral.) Papillons d'Alice - Jardin d’Acclimatation ("Alice's Butterflies" This one I found on RCDB, and I can't tell if it has much theming at all. It has a female name in it's name, but seems to be butterfly themed.) Eejanaika at Fuji-Q Highland also had a lot of feminine advertising before the coaster opened, but the coaster itsself apparently doesn't have any. Discuss! -Julie

I stayed at the Maples Motel near Cedar Point, and for the love of God, do NOT stay there! I saw it online and thought "Quaint old motor lodge, free breakfast, two miles from Cedar Point, fits perfectly in the budget"...no way. This place had train tracks almost directly in front of it, which meant we got woken up about every 20 minutes or so for the entire night. Plus, being old, we blew a fuse so we spent the night without power. It was the single worst night I have ever spent in a hotel! Sorry I can't be of more help on where *to* stay, but at least I can give a bit of advice on where *not* to stay. -Julie

Mitch Hawker's Steel Poll - Now Open
USRoadTripper replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ That's what I would have thought, but it wasn't listed under that at the bottom of the ballot. I left it off because it wasn't specifically included, just in case there was a reason for that (not like it would really effect any other coasters in the poll anyway). -Julie -

Ok, mines done. Sucks that I ended up riding a really great SLC and a decently great Boomerang this year, because I really wanted to put those lower in my count than I did! Also, I didn't see Looping Star at Beech Bend on there anywhere. Did I miss it or is it not included for some reason? -Julie -

I got a message earlier from Kevin where he said that when he logged in to check his email, one of his pictures from our WDW trip in December was the member photo of the day! I'm also on this page! http://yahoo.rogers.com/yahoo/spotlight/daily_dish.jsp?id=monday2 Here's part of the screen capture he sent me. Pretty cool huh?! -

Cedar Point - Hotel Questions
USRoadTripper replied to eyeamthu1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just throwing in my two cents about what happened during my trip last year. Kevin and I were there on Sunday July 10th, and Monday July 11th, and the crowds were MUCH bigger on Monday. On Sunday, the only rides with significant waits were Top Thrill Dragster (1:15), Millenium Force (1:00) and Raptor (0:45). Everything else was less than a 10 minute wait or so. On the Monday, EVERYTHING had waits of at least a half hour. My assumption was that locals think the weekends are busy, so they don't go on weekends. -Julie -
My Old English Teacher Gets Arrested!
USRoadTripper replied to SharkTums's topic in Random, Random, Random
My high school Spanish teacher got arrested for sneaking a video camera into a local gym and videotaping other men in the locker room and showers. We didn't make fun of that at *all*. -Julie -
Oh...my...God...that is hilarious! That's something *I* would do! -Julie

A WDW Christmas Opinion
USRoadTripper replied to photoginit's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Completely agreed! I saw the Osborne lights twice when they were on Residential Street, then skipped them last year because I didn't think it was anything special. But this year was really awesome! I enjoyed the display way more than I thought I would because there was a show element to it. It was relatively confined in a small area too, and it was easy to walk from place to place during the shows to see everything. Feliz Navidad was also my favorite of the shows I saw. Did you happen to notice the Muppets lights? I'd have never noticed them had they not been pointed out to me. -Julie -
Letter from Cedar Fair

^ And any help anyone could possibly need regarding grammar or word usage can easily be found on the internet. There's no reason that anyone who speaks fluent English should ever have an unprofessional sounding piece of writing. I remember when email was new, and everyone was so excited because it would bring back "the fine art of letter writing." hahahaha -Julie (who never uses text shorthand either, even in test messages!) -

Tom Sawyer's Island
USRoadTripper replied to Ryan King's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Do you guess they might add a bridge to increase the amount of people that can get to the island? I can see the low-capacity rafts being a big challenge for them to overcome. You can only pack so many people onto them and run them so fast before you need an alternate way of getting people on and off the island. It would cause a whole other set of safety issues with Fantasmic though :-/ -Julie -
Tom Sawyer's Island
USRoadTripper replied to Ryan King's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not super crazy about the idea, but I sort of don't care either way. I've been to Disneyland twice and never been over to their island, and went to WDW many, many times before I made it over to thiers. I'm sure it's nice, but I'm sure a redo would be nice as well. My concern is the same as Dave's...what happens in a few years when Pirates aren't such a hot thing anymore? When Stitch was first out, everyone was all "We need a Stitch ride!!!" and by the time they actually made one, the whole Stitch fanaticism had cooled down. Seems like one great pirate attraction per park is enough. And with as busy as the parks can get sometimes, I'm sure lots of families would miss the quiet island where they can let their kids blow off some steam. Kevin hosted a Tom Sawyer Island hide-and-seek meet earlier this month at WDW during Mousefest, and it was really surprising how many people who showed up for the meet had never been over to the island before! -Julie -
I got to see two test runs of Laugh Floor Comedy Club when I was there earlier this month, and to be brutally honest, you're not missing too much. I was really expecting more from the show since it's acted by former Adventurer's Club cast. Of course, I also saw it when it was very rough and unfinished, so maybe the completely finished show will be better. Out of 10, I give it a 5. We saw two completely different versions of the show, so it will be cool to see which version they choose to use! -Julie
