Honestly, that is a problem in everyday life and one of my biggest pet peeves. Great TR! -

The station/queue looks great! I am curious though, how do you get from one side of the station to the other or is it split up? -
Waiting in line...
haiderodes replied to swampfox's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well technically Disneyland is an inner city park and SFMM is more of a suburban park...so that kinda throws a curveball at ya. -
^Great ideas Derek! I agree they need SOMETHING. Anything really. Be it a 4D show, or a nice dark ride, etc. Not everything in the bible was dramatic and traumatic, there's lighter stories in there as well. There's no excuse not to have rides. I mean come on, even without roller coasters they could still have some great attractions to draw people to the park.

Waiting in line...
haiderodes replied to swampfox's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Like others, for me it all depends on the situation. As long as the line is moving, I don't mind it. But if its one of those lines like the standby line for Test Track where you only move ONCE in 10 minutes...you can forget about it. If theres a new attraction, or a new park that I am visiting I'd just grin and bear it as its going to be a new experience. That said, I was spoiled by doing the WDW College Program and working seasonally down there. Having access to the parks during slow season and having "hook ups" at certain attractions meant very minimal waits. So now when ever I am down there, I refuse to wait very long for most of the attractions. Sometimes I get that way when visiting the SoCal parks as well. -
Its a nice park, could use a little more "OOMPH". Perhaps a freefall or something, or a nice big ferris wheel so you can see the surrounding area. I know its pretty hard working in the confines of the height limit and the neighbors, but where there is a will there is a way. As for my next park, I've always wanted to check out SFOT because its the original. Perhaps a Texas Six Flags tour is in order?

I had serious issuse uploading that second set so now I present the final set of photos! Back to San Francisco! Hope you liked my update. Back to the ferry. I settled in with a smoothie and a water. Medusa through the trees...again. V2 over the entrance is pretty cool. Granted my timing was off and this was the best shot I got. Looks like Shouka is attacking Medusa...quick we need a little help here! Waiting for the bird show, all these people along the wall were just there for the shade. Is this kid sleep or was it an aneurism from all the extreme G forces? Since when was the Green Lantern black? I laffed. HARD. repeatedly.

More photos... We cant touch the butterflies, but they can touch us? That doesn't seem very fair. Even the flamingos behind Voodoo think it sucks. At least it had a decent sign?!? Voodoo = WEAKSAUCE Tazmanian Devil...can you believe people were acutally using Flash Pass for this. It, along with every other ride in the park, had NO WAIT! This reminds me of Sea World San Diego circa 1998...although a cheaper version. The best part was when people in the audience got pooped on by a sneaky bird on the awning...too bad I didnt get it on camera. Shouka...eh Nothing like a good 'ol Boomerang to give you a concussion. I thought black dont crack? Well someone get her some lotion! SIMULATED DOLPHIN SEX! Its a menagerie! The only water ride open which meant it had the longest line in the park. I have an aversion to getting soaking wet, so I skipped it. WORST.SHOW.EVER! Signature shot! Flying by that erection. MMM...twisty Rawr! So they replaced Zonga with this...CRANE: THE RIDE! A fully erect V2 Coming soon to Lyfetyme...television for losers. Are we related? Jocko doesnt like my "lip" and tells me to get the ____ out! WHOA, SORRY! Who died and made you queen? Jocko has had enough of me, he tells me to keep it moving. Oh snap...an actual piece of acrylic! They are pulling out all the stops today! Wow Six Flags is serious about cleaning up thier image...look at those expletives they've censored! Introducing...WalrusButt Like Bee-YAWN-say said...to the left to the left! No this is not me dressed in blue...its Jocko! So this guy starts directing traffic. What a let down! It wasn't ANYTHING like I was expecting. *dirty grin* Intriguing sign no? I like the names of some of the rides. Even though the ride op wouldn't say it...he just kept saying "The Gorilla" Right after I took this photo, this little guy landed on my camera...and wouldnt leave!

So this past weekend I took a trip to San Francisco as a little getaway. The first day I didnt really do much but meet up with some friends and shop and what not, but the highlight was day 2, Sunday. It would be my first visit to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom which also meant it was my first visit to another Six Flags park outside of Magic Mountain. I used the Baylink ferry to get up to Vallejo and then used a city bus to get from the ferry terminal to the park. In all it was about a 1.5-2hr journey, but I got to see a lot of cool things along the way so it wasnt so bad. The day pass was $19.25 for roundtrip ferry service and unlimited bus travel in Vallejo...not a bad deal considering the ferry is normally 11.50 each way on its own. Overall it was a great trip. I have a goal of visiting all the Six Flags parks, so thas number two off my list! This particular park is nice, but I dont really see a need to go back. For every nice touch, there was also a touch of ghetto. I didnt like how things were left exposed. It bothered me that the go-karts just sit there at the entrance of the park, but then when you get into the park its nice and landscaped. The other thing that turned me off was the amount of little kids present. I know that little kids love animals, but DAMN by 3p I was ready to go. I can say, due to this they do have SFMM beat in the kiddie ride category. Hell, they have em beat in the flat ride category as well. And I only saw one employee text messaging (ODV lemonade cart), and she was quick to hide it when she saw that I noticed. To the Forum! Wait...wrong park. TO THE PHOTOS! Somewhere on this train, someone is crying out in pain Kong...was running 2 trains! Medusa...THROUGH THE TREES! Medusa...and it was running 3 trains! I MADE IT! Interior of the ferry...its a like a really wide airplane with extra legroom There's me and there's San Francisco Got a ticket to ride! First stop SF Ferry Building These dudes were hanging out behind the fountain. One was all 'wassssah"...the other was like "leave me alone!" There's a lot of good info people have given already! I LOVE HAWAII! My experience with Hawaii is slightly different since when I went for the first time back in February I was visiting my best friend and his family. So my experience was a bit laid back and we did some things more off the beaten path so to speak. Somethings I checked out included... 1. We took a day to drive around the perimeter of the island. With all the stops we made it took us about 4 to 5 hours. We stopped at Dole Plantation; Matsumoto's (famous for hawaiian shave ice on the food network!)- on the North Shore near Waimea; the Pipeline; Kualoa Park and Chinaman's Hat (near the ranch were they filmed Jurassic Park); the Mormon Temple; and back around near the Audubon park; and Hanauma Bay. 2. Luau at Paradise Cove at Ko Olina (west side of island). Not the fanciest, but a really nice show that sits right on the water. Excellent view of the sunset! 3. Pali Lookout - pretty much in the middle of the island you can see down into Kaneohe Bay, Chinaman's Hat, etc. Those are some steep mountains. Well worth the drive, got great pictures there. The old Pali Highway is now a trail that you walk down from here. If you drive all the way through the pass there are some really cool tunnels as well. 4. The Punchbowl - visited the cemetary in there, crazy two lane road to get up there though, cool views of downtown from there though. 5. Pearl Harbor - go early! 6. ZIPPY'S! - its an island fast food/casual restaurant chain. They are famous for their chili...they say it has peanut butter in it to make it extra smooth. yum. 7. Waikiki - of course you should walk down here at least once. Ate at the Cheesecake Factory...not that we dont have them here in Vegas, but the one there (connected to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel) was really cool because like it opens into the huge courtyard of the hotel. 8. Diamondhead - We didnt climb it, but we drove around it. If you take the road that Waikiki Beach sits on and keep heading toward Diamondhead, you get a spectacular view of the water, the surfers, Waikiki, and yes THE REAL WORLD HOUSE! Actually a shortcut to my friend's house was driving behind it, so we did that a lot as well. Right behind the parking area theres a studio that they use to film the tv show Lost. 9. Don Quixote (Makiki) - The craziest store on earth. Part Walmart, part department store, part swap meet. It was like I was in some random asian country. It was great! 10. Aloha Tower area - there's a waterfront park down there that has some great photo ops with Diamondhead and Waikiki in the background 10. Nightclubs! We went clubhopping 3 out of the 4 nights I was there. Let me know what your "tastes" are and i can help you out if you are into that sort of thing. While I was there we also went to go see a concert downtown at the Blaisedell Center. So there you go...just a few other things that you might want to check out. Also, the Hawaiian Marketplace is a cool place to bargan for deals, but for cheap souvenirs check out any Long's Drugstore especially for all those snack purchases such as chocolate macadamian nuts, etc. A lot cheaper! Also, what airline are you flying in on? Hawaiian Airlines is great, it really puts you in the mood. The flight from LAX was like a 5 hour long pre-show of what was to come during your visit. The flight back was like a recap of everything you just saw.

This is all good information for me as well. I'm flying up to San Francisco for a lil weekend trip next weekend (June 2-3). I'm thinking of turning a non-theme park trip into a theme park trip by buying a ferry/six flags package. For $60 you get admission and transportation to the park and back.

Parks in the 70's?
haiderodes replied to RollerC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Obviously I wasn't alive in the 70s BUT I do have to say that Knott Berry Farm of the past was a much better place. The whole atmosphere of the park has changed. Outside of the Ghost Town area its a big concrete jungle with lots of open space with no shade and a million trash cans. -
I agree Irfanview is a great free download. It also has a few editing tools such as filters, effects, etc. The best part is that it doesnt take forever to load.

Yeah, what Robb said. I remember seeing it on SFMM's Viper and Flashback. -

haiderodes replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great pictures. I couldn't help but keep going back to the floor picture and video. Its really cool. At 10 people across, I assume these are the largest cars B&M has ever created. I'd say that's a feat in itself. And then add a moving floor that moves so quickly and smoothly. If you were standing on that middle front platform, I'm sure you'd get launched! -
^ WOW. With the trademark and everything. Where do you get those "stamps" from? I want one that says 100% Totally Gay so I can go around stamping people who are in denial. haha

I would NOT recommend riding with legs locked, I find it most stressful on the legs that way -- and is also damaging to knee caps (having your knee caps absorb bursts of G-forces up to 4.0 is NOT a good thing). To thoroughly enjoy stand-up coasters, the first step is to ride them in the best stance. This is what I do: I straddle the bicycle seat with both feet supporting my entire body weight standing on the floor of the train (not just touching, but actually holding my entire weight, not the little seat). The little bicycle seat isn't up against my crotch either, but is barely touching, I'll explain why I do this. I do that so I have enough space to stand up fully, yet also enough space to bend my knees slightly through heavy-G turns. I stand with my back straight, shoulders back, head up -- legs and feet planted slightly behind where my shoulders are and have my knees just slightly bent, NEVER LOCKED RIGID. At the bottom of every inversion or drop where the G-force load is heaviest, bend the knees with a little flex of the legs and have the muscles in your thighs and calves absorb the force, not the cartilage in your knee! Then at the top of the inversions or any ascent, relax them. But don't make it a chore, as it should come naturally. I find it that I have never experienced sore legs or had ANY painful rides on ANY stand-up coaster so far by riding like this. If you just happen to have very weak knees and legs, then this approach might not be the best for you though. That's helpful advice, but of course they never tell you that while you are waiting in line and I don't recall ever seeing that on a sign. haha. The one and ONLY time I rode Riddler I was in pain, not in the legs, but rather the crotch. I think it had something to do with nervousness and not wanting to make a scene in front of a station full of people by fumbling with the restraints and what not, but I had the hardest time getting the seat down enough so I could jump on the little bicycle seat. So that meant it rode pretty high, all wedged up in my crotch. On the bottom of the first drop/loop I knew I was in for some trouble. That said, if I was to ride it again I would definately take my time, but the memory of that first ride still haunts me when I look at the thing. I just wonder how these little kids make it through when their feet are barely touching the floor. That has got to be excrutiating.

From what I have seen, these "big boy" seats aren't any different in actual dimension so any difference in airtime is likely just an illusion. The seat belts go on either side of the "hump" found on B&M seats. The placement of the belts on either side just gives the rider a few more inches of go/no-go space if they should need it otherwise it acts just as normal. If the ride crew is doing their job correctly the harness will still be down just as far as the rest of them.
