I like how they felt it necessary to include Gary Sinise in the ride disclaimer. WHOA! Warning, this attraction includes Gary Sinise! haha -
^ Does your boyfriend know that? Haha, just joking with ya man.

Considering how many people move into the Vegas Valley every month, you would think it would be a no-brainer to have an Ikea here. But alas, none for 200+ miles...the closest one we have is in Covina, CA. Speaking of Ikea, I'm thinking of heading down there this weekend. Which means, I should try and get some credits while I'm there. Castle Park anyone? HAHA!

^ Yes Robby Benson is good. The only and only time I stopped to watch Candlelight (December 2003) he was the narrator. -

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

^Yes it is a shame that the majority of thier rides hurt. Rock N' Roller Coaster is still pretty smooth. Though when I was at Disney-MGM Studios back in May I noticed they have added an extra section of padding near the top of the harnesses.

^^^^^ Pretty ghetto fair eh? Doesnt look like they had any ride newer than 1985. As for the Gravitron. They are ok. When I was a kid, I was always drawn to figure out exactly what happened inside there. Its kinda mysterious...all you know is that it spins and there's some funky lightshow going on in there. Then one night with my cousins along, I finally summoned the courage to ride. Basically you lean against this pad thats attached to the wall with rollers. As it spins the forces pin you to the pad causing it to rise up the wall. The operator sits in the middle and can accelerate/decelerate the ride so you go up and down the wall. The sensation is similar to a Round-Up except the forces seem to be much greater and if you are brave (and the operator allows) you can "hang" upside down or lay sideways. The coolest part is that you really have no frame of reference to the outside, especially at night, as you can't really tell you are spinning. I used to ride these things everytime I saw them at a fair, but nowadays things like that just give me a headache. -

I've seen Mystery Lodge twice and it still perplexes me. Its actually really well put together. I thought it was akin to something you'd see in a museum/visitor's center. The disappearance and stick thing at the end is still a big how'd they do that for me. I'm thinking the actor places the stick in a little groove in the floor that then closes/moves so that the stick falls. I also think there's a lot more happening behind that glass than we can see. I just wish people would give this attraction a little more credit. -

Wet N Wild Las Vegas GONE!
haiderodes replied to haiderodes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not exactly... While the park closed a couple of years ago, it wasnt until a couple of months ago that they finally completed the demolition work. They were really slow at taking everything down for the get go. The owners of Turnberry (the high rise complex immediately south of the site) complained about the mess that had been left as buildings and some slide platforms still remained for over a year, albeit covered in trash and graffiti. After some legal drama, they just now have finished with the work. That said, not everything is gone yet. The employee entrance/HR/security building off of Paradise Rd is still there, albeit derelect. The sign directing deliveries is also there still. -
So driving to work yesterday I took a long way which took me past the backside of what used to be Wet N Wild. It had been a long time since I had driven by. Honestly, it was kinda hard for me to see my first job being destroyed so brutally and then just sit there for months and months. This water park meant so much to me and pretty much everyone else that grew up in Las Vegas in the 1980's and 90's...it was all we had! Anyways...on the photos. Now the site serves two purposes. 1.) It continues to be used as a storing and staging area for trucks for the LV Convention Center (as it was during the park's off season) and 2.) Construction access, storage for the new Fountainbleu Resort being built on a portion of the site. If it wasnt for this sign and a few other items still standing you could never tell what used to be here. No more big hill, no more slides, and no more trees.

^Whats so special about their block check that they have to open after the park has already opened? It seems to be a scheduling issue. If they are allowing time for the start up procedures. Granted I have never worked at SFMM, but I have worked at a couple of parks and I never have seen a block check take more than 30 to 45 minutes. The only issue is if maintenence isnt ready to turn the ride over for the day and is still doing its thing. Did they ever solve the 'slipping down the hill' issue with the ride?

^If money weren't a factor, I'm still not certain it would be a feasible venture. First, you have the remnants of the former 'Grand Slam Canyon' theme. While they have been slowly chipping away at the rockwork to add this and that over the years, the mountain/canyon is still a part of the park and not something I think they would get rid of completely. Additionally, most of the rockwork is not solid and underneath lies many things such as piping, ride supports, storage areas, and portions of rides. To overcome all this for the sake of having an indoor wooden coaster...unlikely. Now for a compact or custom coaster akin to a spinning or wild mouse coaster that has minimal support structure, that would be a different story.

Granted the weather is pretty constant inside the dome (except for when it rains). I dont think a wooden coaster would work inside the dome, mainly for the space required for a stable enough structure. As it is the dome floor shakes a bit each time the Canyon Blaster or Rim Runner operates. I think the Adventuredome, despite it being borderline ghetto, has done a pretty good job given its size...and they have Disk'O on the way! Having worked there, I dont think wooden is territory they would delve into.
-
I'm still skeptical about this project. We have had a lot of proposed and planned project go down the drain like the WWF and Harley Davidson hotel proposals. As for a wooden coaster, I think it would be to hot and dry, plus we have strict earthquake codes just like California so that's working against it. Granted a steel/wood combo like Mega Zeph and Villain (only better) could work.

Nowadays the best part of Disney Quest is the Cheesecake Factory Express. The elevator was pretty cool the first time through as well.
