Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
coastercrazy216 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Setting aside that this is a roller coaster discussion forum where speculating on new attractions is a fun diversion, we actually have a few facts thus far. -Holiday World has gone on record various times that there are big plans in store for the next couple years. -Paula is ramping up the teasing - mentioning that people will not want to miss the Voyage walk back on 5/15 and also implying on another forum that a person deciding on a vacation destination should perhaps consider holding off for a bit. Not to mention the "watch the horizon" stuff related to the removal of Giraffica. I think it's perfectly logical to assume they are installing a major attraction in the next year or two and a medium sized steel coaster is a good bet given the park's size and current lineup. It's one thing to speculate on plausible additions, but the types of rides that y'all are suggesting are on par with some things said in the Darien Lake thread. Like really insane stuff. -

Intamin Prefabs are insanely expensive coasters. Keep in mind that Voyage was only 8.5 million and that was a HUGE investment for the park. Y'all are dreaming way too big. There is no reason to speculate on absolutely no facts, it will only bring disappointment when the park actually makes an announcement. For all we know, that clearing could just be cutting down dead trees... -

This is Holiday World we are talking about, not Six Flags or Cedar Fair. This is a family park and not a B&M type park. We should stop speculating on what might happen and wait for actual indicators or announcements. This thread is turning into the Darien Lake thread with all the ridiculous speculation. -

Ironically, that's really all you do, though. Just defend Roller Coaster. Robb has said before that airtime and ejector air are good, but then there is bad ejector airtime. The kind that will give you bruises. That's really not something that you should define as a selling point. Especially since those bruises could be caused by the fact that Roller Coaster is just a rough ride, even for its age. -

Quick question: Has Wicked ever rolled back to our knowledge? Does anyone have any pictures or videos? -

^No matter how much you have tried to defend Roller Coaster in the past, I really don't see how the ride runs in the rain should impact how someone likes a ride. NTAG is my favorite roller coaster rain or shine, and it doesn't rely on the weather to produce the insane airtime. Yes, Roller Coaster may have a pop of airtime here and there, but I personally believe that it has never been a standout ride. It is just really rough and barely has what B&M calls floater airtime. Is it a good ride? Absolutely! Is it this awesome ride that everyone should put on their bucket list because it is that awesome? Personally, I don't think so. I have never heard anyone get off that ride and start raving about it. I'm sorry, but it really is just mediocre at best. -
First off, one of your primary arguments was that dolphins shouldn't be in captivity due to their high intelligence levels, but now that doesn't appear to be an issue? Also, who is to judge which animals are intelligent? Furthermore, just because an animal is large does not mean that it travels to vast areas. In fact, studies have shown that a large percentage of dolphins remain in the same general area for the majority of their lives. Second off, when you look at the structures of orcas in Sea World, you will quickly find that they are kept in packs and they are hardly separated from their families until they are long into adulthood. Listen, unless you have the ability to observe these animals in the ocean as well as in captivity, which I know for a fact you don't since no one does, you will never be able to prove the majority of the claims made in the awful film. Take a minute and actually read this document: http://t.co/jktrk8FFPd. Sure, it was written by Sea World, but it does an excellent job pointing out the MAJOR flaws in the film. I saw the movie. I understand that it is a heart-tugging story and the filmmakers do an excellent job of making you want to hate on Sea World and other marine parks like SFDK, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a biased film with unreasonable expectations. As for the economics, Sea World has actually not been hurt when you look at its attendance and profit numbers. Furthermore, if the orcas were taken out, what do you expect to happen? Sea World just continue to go about its business? They wouldn't be able to do the conservation work that they do, and thousands upon thousands of people would be jobless. Millions of people would lose exposure to these animals and would probably never be able to experience them. You cannot outlaw the captivity of one species without outlawing all of them. The whole notion is just unrealistic, ridiculous, and I honestly cannot even believe that people suggest it.
-
Okay, so let me get this straight: You think that SFDK shouldn't have the animals, but it is okay for a zoo to have them? You do realize that doesn't change anything. Do some research on how these animals are actually treated besides watching these biased documentaries. Moreover, the bill for Orcas in California did not get passed and has no chance to get passed for at least another year. Also, the idea that you want to replace some exhibits with more exhibits with smaller animals is just kind or crazy. Just because an animal is bigger or smaller does not have any indication on its intelligence level. Finally, why should the dolphins not have to perform, but other animals that know some tricks perform? That doesn't make sense. These animals were never meant to be in captivity, but it happened a long time ago and we have to make the best of it. The idea that you can release these animals back into the wild is ridiculous. Not to mention the jobs lost due to decreased revenue.

What really fascinates me is how Banshee looks far less supported on that element than Montu does. -
Knoebels Discussion Thread

^I have ridden it at various times during the season (even as far back as opening year) and I agree that the ride is VERY smooth, but there is a lot of shuffle in that s-turn before the final curve and dip into the brakes. It just doesn't track super well there; however, everywhere else on the ride is insanely smooth. -

The ride really does look great! I love Wicked up until the MCBR, but after that, it just kinda wanders and has a bad shuffle on the s-turn. I've ridden Wicked at least 20 times, so its just a bummer that the first half is so spectacular, but the second half doesn't match up. This, on the other hand, looks fantastic the whole way around! -

Lagoon Discussion Thread
coastercrazy216 replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ All we know is that the ride will be the biggest, fastest, and most expensive ride Lagoon has ever built. That is all that is truly confirmed. The ride could cost 20 million for all we know. Don't assume the ride is going to suck just because of the price tag. Remember, NTAG was only ten million and that is one of the best rides in the world. Wait until we have a layout at least. Have you guys even ridden Wicked or Bombora? They are fantastic rides that really deliver. I am very confident that this will be a good ride, but I wish it was going to be more of an airtime ride rather than an inversion ride based on the facts. Still, it will be good none the less. -
Knoebels Discussion Thread

If that's the case, then I'm sorry my disability would be an inconvenience for you. I'll make sure to stay out of your way. I don't really see it being a safety issue either because there are all kinds of rides that are probably hard to evacuate from, but I can still ride. Even at Holiday World, I see the Mammoth/Wildebeest and Voyage being harder than the Flying Turns purely out of speculation. It isn't that it is an inconvenience, but it makes complete sense why the park is doing this. Think about it like a ride breaking down. The line stops moving and people get frustrated that they have been waiting in line for so long, only to have to wait longer. If the smooth operation of the ride comes to a halt because of one disabled guest, there are going to be some frustrated guests. I am not saying that it is right, but I totally understand why the park is doing it, and honestly, I am not going to question the judgment of Knoebels since they actually got FT up and running when many had given up on it.
