PortAventura Discussion Thread
coasterfreak101 replied to Shockwave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I guess I just don't understand why I would ever pay 35€ for this when for 10€ more I could go to the park next door and actually fill my entire day with dozens of rides. Hell, even with the combo pass, unless there's direct access from PortAventura, it just seems like a hassle to shuttle between the two in the middle of your day. This being a separate gate makes absolutely no sense to me at all, unless next year they're going to pull a Ferrari World and add three roller coasters and a dark ride and such - THEN I might consider paying to go. -

Exactly. This thing's gonna be awesome, and anybody who's sat in that back-left wing seat on Skyrush knows it. -

Seeing as it has no launches, no elevation changes, and nobody's getting on mid-ride, it's physically impossible for it to gain momentum through the course. Physics, man. It can gain momentum by going down. Momentum is based on mass and speed. What it cannot do is gain energy (only transfer potential energy into kinetic or vice versa, or into heat/friction). Like I said, seeing as there is no elevation change (i.e. highest velocity achieved at bottom of first drop) and there is no launch (i.e. no boost in velocity) and nobody is getting on mid-ride (i.e. mass stays constant), it is impossible for it to gain momentum as it runs through the course. Net momentum, at least, which is what the post seemed to imply. Obviously there are alternating gains and losses throughout, but it's a net loss beginning to end - it's not supposed to gain momentum through the course. Granted, dude was probably just talking about how it lags more and more as it goes on instead of having the hills and such be smaller to keep the pace going strong. I think I kind of like the pacing so far - this thing is just too long to have Skyrush intensity beginning to end, so something a little less aggressive but double the length seems awesome. -

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

This is what bothers me about the whole ride. It's gonna be great, but it might be one of the most stale areas I've ever seen a park create. -

Man, I know it doesn't fit the theme nearly as well, but that fresh paint on Nemesis is gorgeous! -

I'm with you, I actually really liked it on both of my visits since it opened. Here's to hoping they can work a new flume in with the same theming and such. The ride really looks perfect for the location it's in, and I'd honestly hate to see that station building and the rockwork and such go to waste. -

Man, GateKeeper is gorgeous. As is that fresh paint on Raptor! Kind of seeing the complaints about the color similarities between Valravn and Rougarou...meh, whatever. -
Best Coaster Layout
coasterfreak101 replied to DarienLaker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Accurate. Personally, I can probably give you the layout to any ride I've ever been on down to the second. Certain ones get stuck in my head - they're always the ones that feel fluid, like every element belongs exactly where it is at just the pace it's taken at. It's like a weird, nerdy appreciation for how artistic some designs can be. That being said, I think the ones that stick with me most are: Medusa: Steel Coaster - potentially the best-paced ride out there, period. Expedition GeForce - perfect flow, except for the turnaround before the return run. Millennium Force - also fantastic flow, especially in the overbanks on the island. Wicked Cyclone - just a stunningly thought-out layout, every element fits perfectly. The Voyage - mostly for that return run, from flying out of the triple-down tunnel to the brake run crossover. GateKeeper - only for the first half, where every element is strung together so gracefully. Alpengeist - that giant immelmann and the flow between the 0-G and corkscrew stick out. Dominator - the way it wraps in on itself to get to the cobra roll, those turns flow together so well. Alright, reached my nerd quota for the year. -

I still remember having to evacuate the Tour because of a medical emergency in another car. They took us through a bunch of storage rooms (that Christmas wreath is HUGE) and out through a door near the food court area - and, sure enough, people were waiting for us with baskets of free candy. -
Moreys Piers Discussion Thread

Seems to me like Gerstlauer could've squeezed a pretty interesting Eurofighter layout in there - Iron Shark, anyone? I'm curious about this. The different track style could also mean different support requirements - a bulkier track could even reduce the number of supports needed and free up some room underneath the ride. (Mind you, I'm not familiar with Morey's in the least, so I have no idea if that would give them enough space for an extra ride/slide.) -
I've gotta say, I'm not one to complain about restraints - Skyrush rocks, y'all - and I tend to think enthusiasts blow things out of proportion. But, having ridden Bizarro for the first time last year, I can honestly say that those lap bars are absolutely terrible. I expected to rank Bizarro in my top five going in, but I'm not really sure I'd put it in my top ten at this point. Part of that might be that I went on a cold day, so the ride probably wasn't running at full steam - but a large part was just how terribly uncomfortable I was the entire time. Passing off red paint and new cutouts as restoring Superman to its former glory is just plain shady, but that's Six Flags marketing for you. Do the bare minimum, and nothing more.

Don't they both have the same colors, just flipped? Beautiful AND cost-effective! Im confused as to how swapping the paint colours is in anyway cost effective? Its not like the park paint the ride themselves as its installed it comes pre painted from the manufacturers. Remind me never to make a joke again.
