  1. ^^Parking garages are expensive. That's reason enough to deter Cedar Fair. Expanding into any of the lots on south side of the park would be a huge undertaking. There might not be a public street there, but there is all of the backstage infastructure, the hotel, a nice chunk of parking spaces that would need (ever seen Knott's on a sold out Haunt night? ) to be replaced, plus houses directly to the west and south. Could it be done? Yeah. Will it? I think its highly unlikely. PS: As far as I know, only certain parts of Ghost Town are contractually protected. I have no idea which parts those are, but my understanding is that there *IS* areas of Ghost Town that Cedar Fair could bulldoze if they chose to do so. EDIT: to respond to ^, I would have to disagree. I didn't even know what the heck Gasoline Alley, Bear-y Tales, or that the Roaring 20's had been rethemed until I got more into theme parks and coasters. Maybe there was more charm before I was alive, but growing up visiting the park starting in 1990 (that's as far back as I can clearly remember at least)...there was plenty of charm. The only thing I can really fault the Knott's family for is Windjammer. I much preferred Soap Box Racers (and this was from a "GP" point of view...pre enthusiast days).

The safest route would be to use a manufacturer approved waterproof housing (case). That way at least your camera could still be replaced under warranty if damaged. But as others have suggested, there are cheaper alternatives that will probably work just as well...
  3. I think the issue with KBF is not so much that the space isn't there, but more so that the neighbors cry about everything and the park is pretty much stuck with its current boundries without rearranging/demolishing other buildings (marketplace or the current backstage area). That's where the landlocked issue comes from IMO. With any park, I always believe "if there is a will, there is a way." KBF is no exception. They have done a great job getting new rides to fit in there without major expansion of the park boundries, but at the same time I don't ever expect to see any entirely new areas of KBF being built (unless it's Ghost Town being bulldozed for another roller coaster! ). BTW, the Western entrance is used every single night of Haunt (and other crowded days throughout the year), and is also the current employee entrance.
  4. Owning the land and developing it are two entirely different things...especially at Knotts! Just as an example: Soak City had a whole phase two planned for the parking lot next to/behind it...and guess what? They are just now getting ONE new slide, the first expansion since the place opened. It's not easy keeping the citizens of Buena Park happy. (Before anyone goes into the whole "the park was there first" rant, realize that the city politicians approving KBF's plans have jobs to keep...) To quote a Knott's employee who would know what he's talking about: "We have a hard time finding 300ft across, let alone 300ft in the air!"
  5. Sorry guys, I sent my video in the other day. Contest over. I win.
  6. ^^Keep in mind those "cheap" HD cameras are all HDV recording cameras. Since HDV is mpeg-2 based, it's good for some things, but the compression makes it completely useless for other things (such as coaster videos...fast motion+HDV=death). The new Panasonic P2 based camera is a step in the right direction, but the P2 cards are still really expensive to offset the cheap cost of getting to record in the DVCPROHD (100mbps) codec.
  7. Thrills=teenagers that don't spend dick in the park, get dropped off, and act like total jackasses in the park. Families=4 (or more people) who buy food, drink, possibly souvineers, pay for parking, and generally cause less trouble.
  8. ^^I would never want to walk anywhere past the Wynn. -Joey "Drives to Stratosphere because I don't want to get shot" Mandel
  9. Awh....Jet Stream. How I don't miss walking to lift or brake 3. -Joey "felt like I was going to die every morning I walked those catwalks" Mandel
  10. Man...I miss Vegas, and I was just there two weeks ago! Can't wait till I can legally enjoy all Vegas has to offer... -Joey "maybe I'll join you guys next year!" Mandel
  11. I believe the brakes have always been there as block brakes (running 5 trains=more blocks needed!), but when SFMM reduced the fleet of trains to 3...they were reprogrammed as trim brakes.
  12. I got my inspiration from the best coaster video editor in the entire world. I win.
  13. Now that I'm about halfway done with my video, I can safely say that I WILL win!
  14. Congrats Soren...We'll definitely have to come visit you! Too bad I won't be able to legally drink with you at any lounges this time around... -Joey "Can you please bring our German girls with you?!?!?" Mandel
  15. I'm probably in the minority here, but I wasn't blown away by Cyclops. "The Drop" is freaking insane, and the other couple pops of air are nice...but it's too short for me to rank it in my top 10 for woodies. Of course, riding Cyclops after riding Balder probably didn't help...since Balder provides "The Drop" like airtime on EVERY hill!

  17. Should this thread be renamed the coming out thread? Joey "I was under the impression Madonna fans are all either gay or chicks" Mandel
  18. The idea of a traveling Screamin Swing is intriguing... -Joey "I think a traveling model of the ride could actually do well if they came up with a 10-20 seat design" Mandel
  19. Don't forget the kiddie coasters! -Joey "got those credits last week" Mandel
  20. This is exactly why I'll never ride any rides atop the Stratosphere. Not because of their operations (which I was very impressed with!), but I'll just never be able to get over Interactive Rides overlooking small things like this. Well, that and the fact its like 50 bajillion feet in the air and I hate heights. But that's besides the point. Stupid Interactive Rides.
  21. The Flash Flood part of the tram tour will be bypassed for a rehab until next year...not that it's really an important attraction though. Also, Fear Factor and Backdraft don't return until the 23rd of this month.
  22. In other news, nobody cares because the SEC is horribly over rated.
  23. Build a Casino in Vegas.
