  1. That's revenue. Doesn't say what the profit (or lack there of) is.
  2. ^26 million dollars a year? Where is that figure coming from? BTW, Cedar Fair caring about history? LOL!!!!
  3. ^You answered your own question.
  4. Maintenance schedules are all set by the manufacturer on a daily/weekly/montly/yearly/every 5 years/etc. time schedule, so once a park gets to the point one of those bigger rehabs or inspections...there's no way to avoid some down time. But since it is SFMM, it probably takes them twice as long as it would at most other parks.
  5. And the excuse never changed from "safety." Even when HH wasn't open. But then again, what do I know? I only used to see the ops sheet everyday that always listed it as closed for "safety" even after HH had closed for the season. IIRC, at first they didn't admit to that. All they would say was that it was being disassembled to assess the damage and refurbish it. I could be wrong about that though. I don't understand how you can't comprehend that someone out there can have a different, yet perfectly valid opinion of the situation. You always have to be the expert, with little facts to go by (it's good to know you know all about the parks finances BTW, does Cedar Fair know that? You should go be an accountant for them! Or if you can't make it as an accountant for Cedar Fair, you should definitely become an analyst. You clearly know everthing about the amusement business!). But whatever. I still contend that removing two of the newest rides at the park is more than just "downsizing." Unless by "downsizing," we are talking about slowly but surely picking away at the rides until the Water Park is pretty much all that left of the property. Because if the entire park isn't closed, I see the property becoming a regional waterpark with some rides. That's solely my opinion, but if it's ok for you take little or no facts and form an opinion that you make sure is the ONLY opinion allowed to be presented in a thread, I can do it too! The reality is that times have changed since Geauga Lake was "the way it used to be." It does make sense to me that Cedar Fair wants Geauga Lake to go back to being more of a family experience/nicer/however you want to say that, but I still don't see why they wouldn't want X-Flight and Steel Venom as part of that. You do need good roller coasters for the thrill seeking part of the family, and I'm guessing the guest satisfaction ratings (if they even do surveys) for an SLC, Boomerang, and a couple bad woodies can't be all that high. I guess only time will tell. But all I know is I am just as right as anyone else in this thread who is just guessing/sharing their opinion on the future of the rides and the park. What a concept.
  6. And Flashback has been closed for Hurricane Harbor's "safety" for the past 3 years now too, SFNO's Batman is just being dismantled "for repairs," etc.... If removing 2 of the parks newest coasters isn't a sign that Cedar Fair may have other plans for park, I'm not sure what is. Downsizing would be removing the SLC or Boomerang, not two of the newest/most marketable coasters...
  7. My friend couldn't find him in the e-mail directory. He really wanted to tell him that some random dude is name-dropping him online too! On a somewhat related note, the event seems cool. "Special Events"=easy money for parks.
  8. Does he still work there? I have some friends who work in that department at WDI...but I don't think it's that cool. I'll ask them about that guy next time I talk to them.
  9. To be fair, USH's Mummy isn't a bad ride...it's just not even close to the best ride. There's a lot better and a lot worse out there. It's still fun, but don't go in expecting anything amazing. That pretty much sums up USH too. Nothing that makes you say "WOW," but you can spend a hassle free day (or half a day, or whatever you chose) and still have a fun on some decent attractions and see some decent shows. But at least Hollywood has the better control room, offices, and breakroom...
  10. It's simply supply and demand. Duh.
  11. Quoted for truth.
  12. OMG!!! You know an Imagineer?!?!? That's SOOOO awesome!!!
  13. ^^^The bottom line is that we get it. You don't think EGF is all that great. You really don't need to go and take EVERY single chance you get to make a post that comes off as "I think EGF isn't that great so that makes it true! Believe me or I'll kill a kitten!" Sure...there's no such thing as a perfect roller coaster. That's because there is no definitive way to decide what makes a perfect roller coaster. But most people don't post about a roller coaster that has received overwhemingly positive reviews "flaws" 100454354354534543 times.
  14. ^To be clear, it's you who don't think it is THAT perfect. For most of us, it really is that perfect. But to each his own.
  15. How many of the people who are acting all high and mighty about this situation have actually met Mantis Man?!?!? Seriously. The guy may very well have some sort of disability, but that doesn't change the fact that pretty much every single person who has met him considers him creepy and/or an asshole. If the guy wants to ride Xcelerator 20,000 times and it makes him happy... good for him. But to me it doesn't change the fact he's extremely obnoxious/annoying/an asshole about mentioning it (and everything I could ever not care to know about Xcelerator) to anyone near him.
  16. ^^^Or we can just continue using the great feature provided to us by Robb and Elissa. I'm pretty sure they would set limits on the photos if bandwidth was an issue. No offense, but why would anyone want to put their pictures on a crappy website that will seen by about 2.3 people when they can use these forums instead? I also like how you made it seem like you got inside info on Psyclone and Flashback (when you obviously read it here and should have credited this site), but that's another story. Not that it really matters, since only 1.3 more people will look at that site, but still... If you want to start a website with SFMM updates, more power to you. Everyone's got to start somewhere. But don't be shocked if no one uses that site...
  17. We stayed at the Sequoia on the Europe trip...it's a little bit of a walk (but not horrible by any means) to the parks, but it was a great hotel. The lounge/bar had some good drinks, the "Beaver Creek Tavern" had some awesome meat on a stick food to eat, and the rooms were on par with a Marriot or Hilton (3/4 star).
  18. The other hot rumor was that Smashing Pumpkins were reuniting for Coachella too. That might actually get me out to the hell hole known as Indio!
  19. Not really. Old casinos in Vegas are blown up all the time to drum up publicity, and they always make the news. People LOVE seeing stuff destroyed in a spectacular fashion. Are you honestly comparing a hotel implosion to a roller coaster's dismantling? Firstly, implosions are the only way to bring down giant hotel towers in Vegas in a timely and relatively inexpensive manner. It's not like implosions are done solely for the entertainment of the people down on the strip, although that IS a side-effect that hotel gurus take advantage of. You're right. People LOVE seeing stuff destroyed in a spectacular fashion. But you can't justify Six Flags spending more money than they need to blow up a ride and clean up the resulting mess when they can take it down the traditional way, that is cheaper and more efficient. A Vegas hotel tower WILL be imploded, regardless of who's watching or not. That's the only way it's going to come down. For the record: implosions are hardly the only way to bring down hotel towers, nor are they timely. The Stardust closed on November 1st and won't be imploded until March. Every window has to be removed, the building cleared out, etc. By comparison...if you take the 5 south down to Disneyland, you probably remember that hotel by the Commerce Casino that disappeared in about a month without having to be imploded. That building was roughly 10-15 stories, which is a little less than 1/2 the size of the building that have been imploded in Vegas so far (all the old casinos were somewhere betwen 20-40 stories). Doing the math, it would seem that using whatever method they used to get rid of the old commerce casino would actually save time. But I'm certainly no expert, so I could be wrong too. In my head, I see a gimicky PR stunt (whether it be using explosives, a wrecking ball, etc.) being exactly what SFMM needs. What better way is there so say "we're done with this coaster BS and want families back!" then by getting on all the news outlets to carry your destruction of a sh*tty coaster and announcment of a new kids land (or whatever they want to announce)? Doesn't seem so far fetched to me.
  20. I'm guessing it will sit there for a year or two until they are actually ready to build something new on the plot of land (so they can lump the cost of the demolition in with the project budget). Not that I am complaining, but this decision totally reeks of a cost cutting move disguised as an improvement since Psyclone sucks ass. But hey...as long as that money goes towards Metro and not just adding money to the bottom line, it works for me.
  21. USC-80 Arizona-73 Galen Center > Sports Arena. Thank God I never have to step foot in that hell hole again! Song Girls > You.
  22. Except for the fact that unless Six Flags and Newhall Land and Farming have struck a new deal regarding the former boneyard, Six Flags can't build on that piece of land. Depending on who you ask, Six Flags never owned that piece of land, or owned it but was contractually bound to not build on it.
  23. I've never had a problem with Southwest, but I also know it's a real crap shoot with them. I've been lucky enough to only have a soda can and a ruined magazine in the magazine pouch be the dirtiest Southwest flight I have been on, but I've heard the horror stories. I always make sure I am in the A group too, and usually only fly them out of Burbank (where they actually use the backdoor for boarding!), so I never have seating issues either. But as long as Jetblue keeps their Burbank-Las Vegas route dead...Southwest will always be the airline of choice for that flight. $80-100 round trip on a 1 hour flight is much better than a 4 hour drive to me, even if it might be in a dirty plane. For longer flights I usually go with nonstop redeyes out of LAX, preferibly on Delta (aside from killing Song, I've never had a problem with them either) since I have most of my miles with them. But I'll take another airline if they are more than $10-15 cheaper than the Delta flight, since it's all pretty much the same now. But anyways...All legacy airlines being pretty much the same in terms of service (or lack thereof) is exactly why they keep holding the Virgin Americas of the world down. Got to protect the status quo. God forbid they get some competition on their routes that forces them to improve the experience for their customers!
