  1. ^I don't know how much is new and how much is old, but I believe you are correct. They took the monorails completely apart, reversed engineered everything so new pieces could be fabricated where needed, and put everything back together.
  2. It's copyrighted material. I think that also influenced their decision to flag the videos. Part of being a member on TPR is abiding by all the park rules. You should never break park rules to begin with, let alone brag about it on here.
  3. I don't have a problem with flashpass holders being guaranteed the front row. Like Robb said, it's a premium product that deserves premium service. However, I disagree with completely excluding regular guests from the front row unless the flashpass queue is empty. How often do you think that the flashpass queue of their brand new ride will be completely empty during the summer? Im guessing not very often. Besides, people already wait longer for the front as it is...I can only imagine how happy those guests will be having to wait even longer waiting for the flashpass line to be empty. I'm sure they will be real willing to upgrade to a season pass/spend money in the park/recommend the park to their friends. It also seems like it would actually be defeating the purpose of the flashpass, since people will be waiting in the flashpass line just for the front row. And as much as we know that flashpass only guarantees "reduced wait times"...the "GP" certainly doesn't. They expect to get on the ride right away because they paid more. They should switch back and forth between loading flashpass and regular guests in the front (adjusting the ratio accordingly if the flashpass line gets TOO long). But that's just my meaningless opinion because I'm not affected by the policy and have no real reason to complain. I'd have to see how the policy works in person to really form an accurate opinion. FWIW, I also don't think this policy will last (much like the no re-entry that almost was).
  4. Someone posted on IOAcentral that doing the ride film in the normal 2d style would have been extremely expensive/complex/time consuming because of all the camera movement. I'm no animation expert, so I can't confirm that...but that does seem to make sense.
  5. I don't think that story is correct. They took apart the old monorails and re-engineered them. Why would a re-engineered version of the old train end up as WDW's? I also believe that WDW's track is a completely different size than DLR's, so it would have been a HUGE mistake to build them to fit WDW's track. BTW, I merged the two Monorail topics into one big discussion thread.
  6. It's not ready for guests yet. DOSH hasn't signed off on it. They are cycling it to test the blocking systems.
  7. ^^I'm pretty sure they are members out there who will appreciate this information. There's nothing wrong with supporting a fellow TPR member.
  8. Just to provide an example...the lockers. Valid Complaint: If you go to the park and they make you put even 100% secured items in the lockers that don't slow down the loading at all. "Bitching" Complaint: Pretty much the last 10 pages. People were offering their opinions/complaints on a policy that I don't believe any of them had been directly affected by. Things were being repeated over and over again and the discussion wasn't going anywhere. The bottom line is simple: If someone asks a question, there's no need to do anything other than answer the question. If someone has a comment about the park, there's no need to do anything else than add to the discussion. That can be simple as "I agree---my 2 year old would love that" or "Here's the reason why...," "You can actually do this instead...", "There are other alternatives..." and so on.
  9. ^^In theory, the fire alarm system should be tied to the PLC and react accordingly to each fire alarm. By that I mean that the ride should know where and when to stop the cars to keep them out of danger. There should also be multiple evacuation routes, so in theory there will always be a "safe" way for employees to get to the cars to evacuate the guests and exit the building. Of course, that isn't 100% failproof...but nothing else is either.
  10. ^^Re-read your post. You started with a comment that comes off as "it's not Six Flags fault you are a vegetarian" and ended your post with a confusing paragraph with two sets of parenthesis and "it sounds like a personal problem." So the message definitely isn't clear. It may not have been your intent to come off that way, but you could have definitely been more careful with how the message was posted too. Just keep that in mind when posting. Besides, all he did was suggest they introduce a product already available at regular Johnny Rockets. If the Mooseburger one tastes like crap, I wouldn't want to eat it either. Nor is every vegetarian going to want to have a sit down lunch just to get the veggie burger which apparently sucks. So I would also make the logical suggestion of "Hey...I like the Johnny Rockets one...since they already have a Johnny Rockets, maybe they can add that to the menu here?" if I was in his place. ^There's a difference between a complaint and a suggestion. The guy made a simple suggestion for Johnny Rockets. Didn't seem like complaining at all. Besides, Jay made it known he wants our feedback/suggestions, and he's getting them. That doesn't mean we need to have 15 pages going back and forth on the same topic, but if someone sees something they don't like/think the park can improve upon...they SHOULD be posting it. If everyone only wants to hear the good, things can't improve.
  11. The only people who care about clones are enthusiasts. A new ride is a new ride.
  12. Because it wasn't holding up too well with all the salt. The new wheel is made of a different metal and will have LED lighting as well.
  13. ^^California does audits twice a year (one announced visit, and one unannounced visit), plus requires a third party certification as well. They look at the SOP's and make sure everything is being done by the book (they watch both the ride operators and check the training logs and maintenance records to see if the required work and training is being done). It goes a long way in keeping the parks honest, since no park wants the bad PR/their ride shut down/etc... Besides, without knowing all the information, it's hard to say for sure CGA broke any rules.
  14. Let the speculation begin on where the ride will end up (I assume SF is already locked into a deal for the ride)...
  15. They must have used the same project manager that tried to pass V2 @ SFMW off as 180ft (or whatever the issue was)... For all the good new management is doing, this is a huge setback. This is a multi-million dollar screw up for a company that needs every dollar it can get...They now have to eat the cost of the ride AND deal with lost attendance.
  16. And people wonder why legislators have to step in...Man am I glad California holds parks to the manufacturers guidelines! It's really disturbing the head of the maintenance department wouldn't even know what is specified in the SOP...
  17. One thing to remember about the lack of flat rides: Jay said at WCB that the park has a 5 year plan put in place that will address all of the parks needs. Removing the flat rides now could very well be the start of replacing those rides with more modern family rides/attractions/flats/coasters/etc. that will ultimately (in theory at least) make the park a more well rounded place for families. While I agree that losing rides in the short term sucks and makes no sense, I am interested in seeing what they do what all the new real estate in the park. The one replacement so far has probably done much better for the park than the Circus Wheel ever did. I never saw a line for Circus Wheel, but so far every single time we have walked by the 3-point challenged the area has been PACKED. Definitely makes the midway more lively than an extremely dated flat ride with no line ever did.
  18. I think it's safe to say that nothing more can be added to the locker discussion. Both sides have said more than enough about it, so lets just leave it at that.
  19. I had a 1/2 day to kill in Baltimore before flying home, so I went to check out Camden Yards and Inner Harbor. Checked out the boats (pretty cool) and drank at the microbrewery there. It was pretty cool. Wanted to do the Aquarium, but it was $30 or something too expensive for a 1/2 day. Thanks for sharing the photos of what I missed!
  20. ^I'm sure you'll be able to find TONS of NAB coverage all over the internet now that the exhibits are open to everyone.... NAB is boring. All the cool stuff is too hard to see since 5,000,000 other people want to see it too. I went the year the HVX200 was unveiled and we couldn't even get near the mock up. I go when I can because it gives me an excuse to go to Vegas, not because the convention is any good. Same thing goes for CES.
  21. ^^The video doesn't claim to be anything other than the first test run...So I'm not sure why you are reading so far into it. Sure the quality was poor, but Jay basically said he put it up because he thought WE would enjoy it. He also mentioned a professional crew coming in to shoot the commercial stuff...
  22. I'm glad you made it out of the Sahara alive. Pretty daring to venture north of the mall/Wynn at night! Awesome PTR!!!
  23. Looks a lot like the Long Beach Grand Prix. I always enjoyed going to that race when it was Indy. Stupid CART. Glad it's back to Indy!
