Rim Runner Leaving Las Vegas
Jew replied to HEADCHEEZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^More like "MGM creditors, ball is in your court!" Right now you can argue that MGM doesn't even own Circus Circus. If they fail to meet the terms of their revised agreement to complete City Center...Circus Circus becomes the property of a bank. Even if they do get that taken care of...the company itself is still on the brink of bankruptcy. I don't see them spending millions of dollars on a new ride any time soon. My theory is that if they are going to be spending millions of dollars, it is going to be on renovating Monte Carlo to better fit in with City Center. -

So they have this nice, 10,000 seat amplitheatre that could be used to host a concert series and actually draw people into the park...and decide to use for a family show that could have just as easily gone in the roadies theater. ...And I still can't buy a ticket online. Or actually get information on the "local discounts." Or hotel partners. With 14 days left until the grand re-opening. -

The last day of Spring is June 20th. -
Even without Manny, the Dodgers still have people who can hit. Unlike the Giants.

So...uhh... The park opens in 15 days, and I still can't buy tickets online. Or even get park hours for their grand re-opening weekend. Or get information on what attractions are in the park besides the new kids area and the re-themed B&M. Or book any local hotel they are supposedly trying to reach out to. Or get directions/transportation info to the park. But at least I know they are on facebook and myspace. -
^Howard's elbow was above the shoulders, which is clearly spelled out in the NBA's rulebook to be an ejection. Fisher didn't actually even throw an elbow: he just dropped his shoulder and made a hell of an illegal screen. It looked like an elbow because the momentum caused Fisher to swing his elbow afterwards. It was obviously intentional, but much like Rondo's foul on Brad Miller: "it was a basketball play" according to the league. It will probably stand as a flagrant II with no additional penalties.

I feel bad for Manny... He either really has issues "down there" and needed the drug for it's legitimate purpose, and now the whole world knows... or... He got caught trying to recover from steroid use. Either way he loses.

I liked what I saw last night...The Lakers just came out and said "you can't push us around. You're NOT tougher than us. We can beat you at you're own game if we have to." I doubt either player gets suspended...Rondo's lack of punishment set the precedent: as long as you make it look like it was part of the game, they won't severely punish you. Howard only got suspended because it was an obvious elbow to the face. Fisher was "just setting a hard screen" and Kobe's will be "battling for position" even though both were clearly intentional IMO. Plus, Fisher's elbow was below the shoulders and it's questionable as to where Kobe's actually landed. I also can't believe the lack of criticism for Artest. Not only did he clearly commit a holding foul, he was "defending" Kobe by pushing his arm right into the back of Kobe's head. He still shouldn't have been ejected though. But that's why playoff basketball is awesome. I much prefer the physical play to what happened right after that: fouls for ANYTHING.

I doubt we will be seeing any additions even after the economy improves. Circus Circus (and the surrounding land) is currently the collateral on the restructured loan with some banks to complete City Center. Until they are free of that debt, I doubt that coaster will be built. -

I'm sure they will make everything look great, but I'm a little bummed out they are forcing the Toy Story characters into TDS. -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
In California, guidelines for cycles are based upon the manufacturer's SOP. So whatever GCI says is what SFMM has to abide to. Theoretically it could be 1 cycle or 5000....the state law only says they have to follow manufacturers SOP's and prove that they do with proper documentation. -

SFMM doesn't even own their lockers. They are owned/operated by Smartcarte. I don't know what their agreement is, but I don't think Six Flags is getting 100% of the proceeds. But anyways..enough about the lockers. There's nothing new that can be said on the topic other than Terminator will have lockers as well. Lets leave it at that and keep the discussion on topic with Terminator discussion. -

Smartcarte has the ability to adjust the amount of free time. I can only imagine the pricing structure will be similar to that of Mummy @ USH, where it is only free for as long as needed and $2.00 for every half hour after that. -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

The logistics of hosting a campout memorial day weekend were probably too much to overcome. Either that, or they plan on hosting their own event like X2? Hopefully they still do some sort of TPR event for Terminator... -
^^I still personally find that practice to be somewhat deceptive. To me, it's like all the fine print buried in car commercials, coupon deals, etc. The intent (IMO) is to hook you in and hope the fine print doesn't scare you away. What I find most interesting about the online ticketing system is that the two most innovative things about the Six Flags system do not actually charge the fee. The option to buy parking and meal vouchers online is something no other company offers, yet you are not charged the $5 fee for buying these items online. Which again makes you wonder what the true intent behind the fees is...
-
^I don't think it is fair to call the practice a standard industry practice when many of the leaders in the industry (Busch Parks, Disney Parks, USH) do not currently charge fees for online tickets. Six Flags also joined the "industry standard" practice by charging the highest prices in the industry, which raises additional red flags. And while I agree that it is a convenience that guests do not have to pay for if they do not want to...that's not how it is being marketed. The companies who do tack on fees aren't saying "hey, buy your ticket online for a small fee and save some time at the front gate!", but instead are tacking on the fees just because they can with no mention of them until check out. I also don't buy the argument that online fees are to be expected just because they happen in other industries too. Does anyone really believe the costs are that high for any company to do business online? Oddly enough, some major corporations are (Verizon, American Express, USAA, and Citibank among others) are aggressively pushing for me to switch exclusively to online statements/bill paying without charging me any additional fees for this "convenience"....

Dave Goes To Las Vegas!
Jew replied to Meteornotes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The thing that has been hurting Vegas is that people are still coming---but spending way less than they used to. Room rates are way down and there's not nearly as many high rollers. For the first time ever I got offers from the Bellagio for $99 rooms (and $89 for THE Hotel, and $79 for Mandalay Bay, and even $110 for Wynn!). When things were good...I only got offers from Monte Carlo and MGM (the two hotels I usually stay at) for nearly the same rates. -
Dave Goes To Las Vegas!

For those doing the Vegas add-on... Monte Carlo has newly remodeled rooms and a great place to drink. Diablo's Cantina rocks! Great TR Dave! Makes me want to head out to Vegas... -
Aside from the fact that is the most inefficient online ticketing system ever if it really requires the ticket to be collected and processed elsewhere, apparently Six Flags must employ a magical ticket fairy, since they are the only chain in the industry to add a $5 surcharge to print at home tickets. My thoughts are this: if there was any doubt left that Six Flags will be declaring bankruptcy, this should remove that doubt. They've done a lot of good with Q-bots, preferred parking, advertising, VIP tours, and extensive online purchasing options, but now I think this has signaled the end of their good revenue generating ideas. It's a sign of desperation to tack on the surcharge (just like airline baggage fees). Side note: does anyone know when the 24.99 online ticket price popped up for SFMM? I just noticed that the online price may have coincidentally dropped $5 after this story made news....

Hard Rock / Freestyle Music Park Discussion Thread
Jew replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
slightly off topic tagent: That's probably due to the fact Disney lists themselves as the manufacturer. Which means they get to set the rules. Other parks are at the mercy of what the manufacturer sets. -
Holy crap that Alexander Ovechkin goal was awesome.
