  1. ^Drunk, high, and out of control in Vegas? I am going to guess that is not limited to just EDC weekend. The difference is those drunk, high, and out of control idiots are not spending money at the clubs like they usually would be on a typical weekend in Vegas, so the casinos are losing out on the parties they usually promote. You think it is an accident the clubs are snatching up every EDM D.J. around to do residencies?
  2. ^All the locations are inside the food court and open.
  3. The park isn't near as big as you'd think. As long as the crew stays on the job, the line shouldn't get that bad. It's rare to have the park nearly its capacity. And mind you, the park is only a block large. Haha I think he is referring to the fact it is still one of the most visited parks in North America...not actual acreage.
  4. ^Great preview! Also really glad to see a coaster show back on the travel channel. Even better that it features Robb!
  5. I think everyone knows Disney is the draw to Orlando, so the other parks strategy is to try and get those guests to take a few days away from Disney to spend at Universal (and to a lesser extent--Sea World). They're crazy if they think they can ever match Disney, but so long as they can keep gaining more of those visitors already in the area for Disney...it's a successful business model. I doubt Universal is complaining about their results. My personal opinion is that for Potter in Orlando, it's a one time pilgrimage since an Orlando vacation is probably something that takes the average family awhile to save and plan for (and realistically includes more time at Disney than it does UO). So things have started to wear off in that regard...hence Potter 2.0 coming soon. I expect the Hollywood version of Potter to be successful because of the large local and regional population base.
  6. The 700,000 difference between KBF and SFMM is simple: daily operation for KBF (well, almost daily...they closed a few times for rain) and Haunt. I can also tell you that of all my non theme park nerd friends who are into Harry Potter, I only know of 3 who can say they have been to Orlando. The rest are eagerly awaiting its arrival here.
  7. Really wish we could get something like this in the states. Really awesome to hear they plan on giving it a nice refresh!
  8. I really love that Knott's is trying to get back to its roots. Now if they could just add a nice high capacity kick ass coaster to balance out their ride collection...
  9. Extreme weather (snow @ Cedar Point) or no off season at all (like Universal Orlando) didn't stop them from getting projects open on time. It can be spun a million different ways...but there's absolutely no question SFMM's management has consistently failed when it comes to getting rides open by the start of the summer season. Whether that is by design to save money, or just bad planning, I really don't know.
  10. Given that it is the only water park in the SD area and now under Sea World's management...I don't think they will have any issues getting people back. I suspect we will see a signature ride added next season.
  11. Welcome to the club.
  12. Universal Orlando just built Transformers in a year. That's all the proof you need to know about what proper project management can do. Magic Mountain deserves no praise for how this project has been handled so far. If you can't accept the fact they've botched the construction timetable (for whatever the reason may be), perhaps it is you who should take a walk off a short pier.
  13. ^^So the park doesn't deserve to be criticized for having their brand new ride on track to open halfway through the summer season (if those rumors are true)? I don't know if that is poor planning or budget constraints (or both), but they most definitely deserve the "sh*t talking."
  14. ^As far as Disney is concerned, that just makes room for another guest who doesn't mind spending a ton of money on their property!
  15. Value is all relative: as is mentioned every single time Disney increases prices, people pay a lot more for things like sporting events and concerts. No reason Disney shouldn't capitalize if they can!
  16. ^^Put it in a different glass. No different than someone ordering a coke vs. a rum & coke. Highly doubt they're so concerned about their liquor license they'd turn down the opportunity to make more money off an alcoholic version.
  17. Glad that the first stages of testing has begun! I hope they keep focusing on testing instead of painting fences that have no bearing on getting the ride open!
  18. Yup. People fail to realize that the cost of operating a theme park as successful as DCA and DL only rises. More guests=more staffing/maintenance/food/merchandise/etc. That doesn't even take into account adding new attractions/shows to the park on a constant basis. The only way to maintain their profit margins and still provide the Disney experience is to raise the price.
  19. ^Agreed. Brilliant idea to create a mini version of their signature slide. Hope that trend catches on across the industry!
  20. ^exactly. Its not like they were reporting on an actual industry wide problem. They were merely confronting some people whose cottage industry had already attracted national headlines from non Comcast owned papers/websites. If they were trying to be slanted, they would have added something to the piece about how ush and other parks limit abuse with return time passes ..
  21. I am going to go out on a limb and guess he will call it the best thing since sliced bread...
  22. ^Uhm...what? The Today show took a camera to confront the people who had already been making headlines. I fail to see how this is an attack in any way. Also, at USH it would be pointless, since the majority of the guest assistance passes issued are of the return time variety. Ultimately it is better for everyone that this came to light: now all parks will be examining their ADA policies to try and limit abuse will still accommodating guests who actually need something. That will probably mean more return time passes and fully accessible regular queue lines.
