The investment company he runs doesn't have a very diverse portfolio. It's Sea World (90%) and Dave & Busters (%10). Can't say that I blame him for wanting control with almost a billion dollars on the line, but it is odd that they would hire two CEO's in a row that aren't in line with the boards vision.

I still wonder if it's going to be the exact opposite. I think people will be dying to get out so badly that once all of this is completely clear and the quarantines are lifted parks are going to be jam packed. Once the dogs are off the leash the local entertainment venues will be packed. Even if the economy is trash, people are used to spending what they don't have... The people who have the money will most certainly want to go out and spend it. There will also be a large group of people who don't have the money, but if a park is extending their pass expiration date or they have time left on their pass they already paid for, they'll show up but NOT spend money. The shorter term (next 12ish months) challenge is that as soon as we switch back to "normal," people are going to owe their normal rent/bill payments plus start having to pay back the payments that were paused. Lots of people who had jobs working at thin margin businesses (restaurants for instance) may not have a job to come back to or won't have it for very long when the business isn't generating the same revenue as before. This is only the first wave of the economic crunch.

Yup, that movie certainly has a lot of parallels to our current situation. I assume when we start issuing antibody tests or vaccines it will also be like in the movie and done by SS number! Isn't China already doing something similar? Can't go out without the Health Department QR code and must have a mask on?

Six Flags [FUN] Corporate Discussion Thread

It's both. Both will need to be solved before we can move forward. -
Why are they still sailing though??? The ships that still have passengers on them went out before travel restrictions kicked into high gear throughout the world. Still ill advised, but not in the full swing of nearly worldwide lockdowns. Zaandam set sail on March 7. Don't all the cruise lines at least have sizable corporate offices somewhere in the U.S.? Plus dock workers, hotels, parking, etc. in the port cities. I have to imagine that the cruise ship industry still has a sizable impact on economies in port cities, hence why I suspect there will be a deal made to bail them out with some strings attached. No way they'll get them to register ships in the U.S., but I can see the deal being a loan with a higher interest rate than what other industries get.

Cedar Fair, Six Flags, and Sea World all took giant hits to their market caps. There will likely be consolidation somewhere in the industry between those three. -
The key with all these things is that they are ESTIMATES. There are a ton of variables. The target dates for anything are all moving at this point. We could be lucky and at least have it manageable by the end of April when the CDC guidelines end, or it could still be bad. We just don't know at this point. Yeah the numbers they are presenting in Trump's briefing are assuming stay at home until end of May and even those numbers are not "good". Easing restrictions end of April just isn't likely. All the numbers being presented are models based on variables that they input. Since we know so little about the virus, its antibodies, who actually has it or already had it...I'd say things are very much subject to change for better or for worse. I'm not an expert, so I won't even try to make sense of any of the data. I think the only thing safe to assume is that parks will continue to follow CDC guidelines. We will see if they revise again...

True. However, if parks are not able to open/re-open till late May/Early-mid June... Will they have time to get staff hired (if they haven’t already hired) get the staff trained, get the rides past state inspection, and actually get the park up and running in enough time to make opening “worth” (for lack of better term) it? I’m mainly thinking of mostly heavily summer seasonal parks IE: Cedar Point. From what I have seen in the various different orders among states and counties, essential maintenance on machinery (such as rides) is still allowed to take place. Parks will open as quickly as they can to recover any cashflow since they can't shed all their fixed costs.

We bought 1,500 shares of RCL recently, and now just sitting on it until it eventually gets back up to $130(ish) a share.... Then we will be selling! They got no love in the stimulus package, good luck. If they want money, they are going to have to register the boats here and build them here. The Jones Act is no joke and Viking just figured out how to get boats on Mississippi to comply with it. Trump has shown love for Carnival because he is friends with Micky Arison. I would not be the least bit surprised if they come to a compromise and get bailed out...

I want to become a ride op.

One thing I always warn people of is that while it is a lot of fun, it is not always glamorous. You will work long hours, you will be stuck in position for hours at a time, you will get screamed at, and you will clean up after gross people (including their vomit). And you won’t be paid great for doing it. That being said it is a great way to meet friends and have fun for a summer if you can tolerate that. -

I think they are opening stuff back up in order to prove it’s safe for the olympics to proceed -

I've been led to believe the Yeti fix is a "months" project, not weeks and, since it would likely involve a contractor, it's not an on-the-fly, do-it-just-because-we're closed kind of job like disinfecting the trains or pressure washing a sidewalk. I really wish people would stop complaining about the Yeti. It's just so dumb that people think this is a top priority of things that need to be fixed. 99.9% of the people who ride Everest don't even realize that it is "broken" because you fly by it so fast and many people actually miss it completely even when it was working! That is why it was never fixed. If it was like the Lava Monsters or the bears on Big Grizzly where it is a show scene where you pause and watch something, THEN it would be fixed. But as it is right now, IMO, it works just fine. If anything, the design flaw here was that the animatronic yeti should have been where the animated projection is of the yeti pulling up the track. THEN it would have been deemed an important show scene and need fixing. Sorry, the whole "fix the yeti" thing has always been a pet peeve of mine. I agree. It was a poor design decision from a storytelling point of view to put a super impressive animatronic in a scene you fly by. "Disco Yeti" works just as well for how fast you go through it. -

I don't know where this whole "CA amusement regulation is so anal about everything" comes from... California just makes sure parks and traveling rides are following the industry ASTM standards and holding parks accountable to make sure they follow those and all required maintenance as mandated by the manufacturer. Unfortunately those standards only apply to the ride. Parks just have to follow building codes when it comes to station buildings. -
To clarify, this was only the actual NCAA tournament. Conferences are still making their own decisions for their conference tournaments, though I imagine after the games played today they will follow suit on this. But this is yet another massive economic blow. I worked the western regional last time they were in LA, three sessions of sold out games at Staples was about 30 hours of work just for 3 days. If the NBA and NHL follow suit as well, hourly workers at staples center accustomed to 30+ hours a week from events like the NCAA regional on top of Lakers, Clippers, Kings, and concerts will be out thousands of dollars in income. ...And then you have to multiply that number for every other industry also impacted. Hotels, bars, restaurants, uber/lyft drivers, the suppliers for these events, the independent contractors brought in for lighting/audio/event planning/etc. Everyone just needs to wash their damn hands and live their life. Except for old people. They should stay home until we know WTF is actually going on.

One likely consequence of all this is your local theme parks fireworks shows might be in jeopardy. Fireworks factories were shut down in addition to less labor at The one port allowed to ship fireworks (there’s only One port allowed to move fireworks on the river to get them to Shanghai After a warehouse explosion caused the government to shut the other one down), so the supply will most certainly be limited come 4th of July weekend.

Yes. You can get another boarding group if they are available after yours has been redeemed. I had Group 1 on Sunday and wasn't able to get a second group from either the app or kiosk. Were they still available? If the cast members scanned your original boarding group, you should have been able to redeem for another one according to a ride op at the venue if they were still taking boarding group reservations.
