NEWS: The Brash vs. the Button-Downs

Well, I think we can all agree that the current SF management team is not the best. But I'm not sure Snyder and his gang would be any better. I think for SF to succeed, you're going to need someone at the helm that is passionate about their product, and do whatever they can to make that product highly desirable to the public. Snyder, at least with his operation of the Redskins, seems to be more about squeezing the maximum amount of money out of the fans. I'd love to know more about his plans to turn the company around... dt -
Premiere. I know how to use it and can do whatever I want with it, so I see no need to switch to anything else... dt

Luray Caverns is really cool. We visited last year. It's difficult to take pictures in there that really do the place justice, as the lighting is off. It's something everyone needs to see for themselves... dt -
My recommendation for DV cameras is Sony. They seem to really hold up well to all sorts of abuse. I have no idea what you could get in the $350 range, as I have not priced cameras in forever, but I'd make sure it had a Firewire port... dt

Dinosaur = BEST RIDE EVER!!! I hope we get to ride it when we're there in October! Those were some cool photos. EE looks pretty cool, looking forward to riding it next year. I still can't believe after years of expressing hatred towards anything Disney, Mary now wants to go to WDW November 2006, after we visited DLP in Europe. Boggle my mind... dt -
I'm thinking for this year, no, as the season was pretty much over when we had the huge price spike. Next year if the prices remain high or go up even more, you might see a difference. I'm sure Six Flags is already putting "high gas prices" in as a reason for no profit in their next five annual reports... dt

THE official NFL thread for the 2005 season

^It's the SI cover jinx! It's actually pretty hard to guess who's going to be good, since only two teams have played a regular season game so far. I really don't count pre-season, as it's pretty much just televised practice. Having said that, NE looked good last night, though they were playing the Raiders... dt -
If I was in charge at Hershey..
Meteornotes replied to CoasterEricHP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I rode the SDL the first day it was open. I remember waiting about an hour for each ride. And yeah, the Trailblazer used to get almost no riders, especially in the evening. It was actually a really fun ride to run. The Cuddle Up left in the late '80's/early '90's. Not sure of the year, as there was a long period of time that I didn't visit the park, as I was living in CA and didn't have a lot of money for travel. That was a great ride, but was incredibly LOUD to operate! You had to wear these massive sound suppression headphones to avoid losing some of your hearing... dt -

EAGLES EAGLES EAGLES!!! This is the year they will win the Superbowl. Most likely against the Colts. Steelers should have a good year, but I don't see them getting past the Colts or Patriots. dt -
If I was in charge at Hershey..
Meteornotes replied to CoasterEricHP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The park used to have two skyrides. The large one was removed in the early '90's. The monorail used to stop at the factory for tours, but this was discontinued when the opened Chocolate World. That station used to be occasionally used, like during the antique car show. If you want to know more about the park, ask away. I worked there from 1979-84, and know quite a bit about the older history of the place... dt -
A Classic Ride opens at Knoebels

Wow, considering this thing was in pieces when I visited about two weeks ago, I'm amazed they got it open this year. Maybe I'll ride during PPP... dt -
I need advice on buying a notebook!
Meteornotes replied to CoasterCrazy's topic in Random, Random, Random
Do not get sucked into the out and out lie that Macs are "better" for video/music/animation. They currently still hold the edge in graphics for print, but in all other categories, the PC meets or exceeds, especially when comparing costs. Yes, the Macs used to be better in these categories, but no longer. And I've been doing computer based animation and music for over 10 years, and have seen/used pretty much every software/hardware setup known, so I do have a pretty solid background on this topic. Now, a few questions. First, do you already own a computer? If so, but the laptop version of the same OS (PC laptop if you have a PC, Mac laptop if you have a Mac). You'll do this because you should already have a lot of software you're familiar with and will want to use on the laptop. Second, is there a particular application that you must have? If so, buy the machine/OS that runs that application. For desktop PCs, I prefer Dells. For laptops, Dell or Toshiba. I just bought a new Toshiba laptop that I'm quite happy with. Mary has a Sony laptop that she does all her photo editing and stuff for those jobs, and she's quite happy with the performance. Oh, finally, don't get a celeron processor machine. They're too slow. And shop around, as that price you posted above seemed high to me... dt -

^That photo cracked me up! "Yay! I've been arrested and now they want my picture! It's like Yearbook photo day all over again!" They're all pretty skanky looking. Not nearly as scary as some of the women I've seen featured on various HBO programs about similar subjects... dt

What other non-theme park boards do you read?
Meteornotes replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
The only park related boards I look at on a regular basis are this one and Westcoaster. I sometimes look at Coaster Buzz if I'm really, really bored, but the atmosphere there is pretty hostile. Anyway, the sites I look at on a daily basis are: Perpetual Motion - Music related Shocklines - Horror fiction discussion Brian Keene MB - BK is a horror fiction writer, and his board covers all sorts of topics (music, movies, books and so on) Mike Portnoy Forum - MP is Dream Theater's drummer. Music and entertainment discussions. Digital Bits - DVD news Blue's News - Game news Jinxworld - Hosted by Brian Michael Bendis (writer). Discussion of comics and other entertainment items, plus politics, sports and totally random topics CGTalk - Computer Graphics/Video discussions Ultimate Metal - music discussion AVS Forum - HDTV/TV/Home Theater discussion Spinquad - Lightwave 3D discussion Plus news sites like CNN and the Baltimore Sun. And technology stuf like Wired and Boing Boing. While that looks like a lot of sites to cover, I mostly skim through the majority, really only posting a lot here and a few others... dt -
Photo TR: First Day of School!!!
Meteornotes replied to Sir Clinksalot's topic in Random, Random, Random
Testify! I agree. Anyone that ever said that high school/college would be the best part of life is either a liar or doesn't aspire to doing a whole lot with life. I did not like school. I was often bored, and just never really enjoyed any of it. College wasn't much better, as I really didn't relate to all the alcohol abuse and related nonsense I witnessed on a daily basis. In reality, my life took a turn for the better when I got out of school and lived on my own and stuff. I'm much happier now than I ever was when I was in the educational system. It's good to know that I'm not the only one with that experience... dt -
That's a damn shame. Sorry to hear it. You guys took great care of him, and I'm sure he had a happy life. Still one of the funniest things I ever saw was Rattum's tearing around the apartment in that ball. Glad I got to meet him... dt

I would be shocked if there were not new woodies at both Knoebels and Silverwood in the next couple of years. Going to have to go with MO right now, as there wood collection cannot be beat. I'm holding off judgement for the new Holiday World coaster until it's actually built and I ride it. I know that we're all supposed to worship HW, but let's wait and see how the ride actually turns out. Plus, like Robb, I really think they should have gone with a steel hyper, something like EGF. I'd still like to see something like that at Knoebels, but I doubt they could afford it! And if anyone, like me, remembers rides on Hershey's Comet without the brake, then you would have to make a serious claim for that park to be at the top of the list. Brakeless Comet rides were amazing... dt
