Dude, you are so not kidding!!! I still say you could torture information out of criminals with that ride. These photos are really making me want to go back to FL. Maybe next fall... dt -

Cool photos. And you know what that huge line means at AK? A shorter line for Dinosaur!!!! The Mission Space warnings are out of control. I too think they end up freaking out people that would be fine on the ride. Telling people "you might get sick", "you might get sick", "did we mention that you might get sick?", "oh yeah, don't forget you might get sick" every 30 seconds or so probably discourages a lot of people. dt -
You always want to drive at night and stay at a hotel near your next park. Getting to a park before opening is really the key to a good day, especially at busier parks. I'd much rather have a short drive in the morning, than guess how long it might take to make a longer drive, then get stuck in traffic and get to your destination late. The only park on your list that you don't need to be at before opening is Knoebel's. Waldameer might be OK too, though the one time I was there it was sort of crowded. But the rest are parks that you'll want to get to before opening, so you can get some rides in before the lines get too long. So I'd drive at night. Have fun! dt

Consistantly for Hersheypark every year, the best discount ticket is at Giant grocery stores. There's one right up the road from the park, so you can get your tickets there. For King's Dominion and BGW, fast food places usually run a coupon deal. This changes from year to year, but usually the local Burger King and Wendy's are the two that participate. If you have a SF season pass, you're covered at SFA. And there are no coupons for Knoebel's, but it's pretty cheap anyway. Have fun! dt

YES! Single Riders Line!!! They need more of those. I have no idea when I'll get down there this year, but I do look forward to checking out this attraction. Thanks for the pics... dt -
So I go to the eye doctor the other week since I want to get contacts. During the exam, the doctor finds some sort of problem in my eye, and sends me to a specialist. I go to the specialist, and he sends me to another specialist (a requirement by my healt insurance provider). I go there yesterday, and they perform all sorts of tests on me. One of the tests involves some sort of dye being injected into my body. Some people feel faint/sick from it, some might get hives, and a very small number will get rapid heart beats. I've never had any problems like this, so I don't worry about it. Well, a few minutes in, I'm dizzier than I have ever been in my life, and the next thing I know they're making me lay down on the floor. I got better after a bit, but I have never felt like that in my life. It was like I spent the day on a gravitron or something. That was a really bizarre experience. Anyway, I need some more tests, but there's some sort of leak in my eye that they're going to perform laser surgery on. So long as I don't get any more strange substances injected into me, hopefully it will go OK... dt

What weird things have you seen people do when driving?
Meteornotes replied to Joe Cool's topic in Random, Random, Random
On LA area freeways, I have seen: - Shaving - Reading a newspaper - Putting on pantyhose - Putting on makeup - Adjusting a hair piece Never a dull moment in traffic... dt -
Test - Can you see this?
Meteornotes replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Of the ones you listed, the only one I've tried is the chat room, and I do not recall getting any "time out" or other error messages since you changed servers. I rarely use email/PMs so I can't really test that feature. I suppose I could randomly send some users PMs, but I doubt many people here want to know about the latest antics of my cats, what CDs I just bought, or what types of cheese I have purchased at Wegmans, so I'll not do that... dt -
2 Crappy Networks to combine into one huge hunk of crap

Could this mean the long-awaited revival of Homeboys In Outer Space can happen now with the massive power of these two amazing networks behind it? We shall see... dt -

RIP In the loop weekend review!
Meteornotes replied to robinschroder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think it all has to do with my potential of being a guest on the show. The podcasts are not ready for all my exclusive inside information! Seriously, I hope the show comes back, as it is damn funny... dt -

Coaster Enthusiasts Clubs
Meteornotes replied to Eagle Rider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For cost, you can't go wrong with Rideworld. I think they're the cheapest one out there. I really don't know anything else about the organization, though. The people that run it seem cool, and I know they plan various trips throughout the year. The ECC has a kick-ass magazine. So if you really like reading about and looking at coaster pics, that might be the way to go. The rest of them I either don't know anything about, or will just refrain from commenting upon. I'm not much of an "official" group type person, so I don't belong to any organizations. And I've gotten to the point where if there's a group event at a park, I'll attend another day. But that's just me... dt -
I remember stopping at and laughing at that Bedrock place in '93 or so. I'm amazed it hasn't falled down and turned into dust. The Grand Canyon rules. Everyone should check it out once. How far down did you hike? We went down a little bit, but it was just a short hike. You need to be in really good shape to do a walk all the way down and back. I have no idea where you're going at this point. I need more clues... dt

Word. I know you don't have it in CA, but here we have Turkey Hill Carb Smart Ice Cream with Splenda, and it is GODLY. The mint chocolate chip especially. I think the key to diet is portion control, and using common sense. And most juices are loaded with sugar. Most people want a magical solution to their diet problems, but it isn't going to happen... dt

Photo TR: Knott's Berry Farm
Meteornotes replied to haux's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When I lived in CA, I'd always tell people how great Knott's was, and considered it one of the best parks in the US. When I visited for the first time in five years last year, it was sad. It's nothing like it used to be, and a once great park is now below average, at best. dt -
Italian parks
Meteornotes replied to Supermanu88's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Gardaland - Some of the worst customer service I have ever seen at a park. No great rides, really bad operations (hey this line is out into the midway, let's remove a train!), the park cannot handle a rainstorm, and woe to anyone daring to want more than one drink with dinner when it's 90+ degrees outside. I doubt I will ever visit again. Mirabilianda - Katun rules. One of the best B&Ms ever. The park has a really odd way to load rides, though (red/green light system that requires people to pay attention, which means it doesn't work). Nothing else really great there. Nice enough place, but the 110 degree day was just brutal. Canevaworld - One of the surprises of the trip. I don't think anyone expected to enjoy this place as much as we did. You could tell that the people running this place really cared about it and wanted their guests to have a great experience. All of the attractions are well done, and it's a really nice park. The water park next door is really nice too. dt -
I think the big difference between a concert/sporting event and a park visit is that the first two are only 2-3 hours in duration, usually at night (when it's cooler), often indoors (where it's air=conditioned), and are almost always seated events. Compaire this to a day at the park, which is hot, mostly standing/walking, and usually of longer duration. I'll admit that I don't have any data on what the length of an average guest visit is, but I'm thinking it's much more than two hours. Someone might want to retreat to their car for a break from the crowds. Guess that won't be happening any more. I don't know about this capacity thing. When I worked at Hersheypark, they did occasionally have to close the park to guests, but it was a pretty rare, happening maybe two times a season. Other than the Disney parks during holiday times/special events, is there a park that has to close their gates more than five times in a year, if that often? I think this is all about making sure you buy $10 bugers and $4 drinks. Ah well, I visit one or two SF parks a year, so I guess it won't really bother me very much... dt

^Don't get me started on doctors. I have no idea why they keep a chart, since they're always asking questions that are answered RIGHT ON THE PAPER IN FRONT OF THEM. Recently I was asked "when they do a blood test, where do they send the sample to get tested?" Um, how the hell would I know that?!? I wonder how some of these people get through medical school... dt
