I collect logo'd golf balls from courses that I play. They usually cost $2-$3 at the course's club house and they look nice in the racks. So, if anyone would like to invite me to play Pebble Beach or Pinehurst, etc with them to help me with my collection...?

Up here in the Great White North it is POP. When we drink Soda that means Club Soda. That way when I ask for a "soda with lime", I get club soda with lime wedges. I used to drink scotch and soda and then realized the pleasures of 12 year old single malt straight up. I think it is a regional thing though. I remember going to the lobby of a hotel in Washington, DC and asking the guy at the desk to get change for the "pop machine". He looked at me and asked if I was from the mid-west? Told him where I was from and he figured that we Canadians were like mid-westerners.

What is the best concert you have ever been to?
RBOrrell replied to SonOfBeastSucks's topic in Random, Random, Random
Okay - maybe not the "best" but certainly the most memorable. The date, August 1981 if memory serves. The place, J.W. Little Memorial Stadium, University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario. The line-up (in order), local London band that I can't remember, Red Rider (before it was Tom Cochrane and Red Rider), Del Shannon, John "Cougar" Mellencamp and The Beach Boys. John Cougar was a last minute addition to the bill. He had just had a hit with "Jack and Diane" and he was available to sell some tickets to this annual concert that in previous years included Boston, Supertramp and The Doobie Brothers. John Cougar gets on stage after Del Shannon's set and it was clear that he was either drunk or high or both. He was cussing and swearing about how he was second billed to the Beach Boys and was after Del Shannon. He accused the promoter of trying to cash in on his recent fame (not entirely wrong) and felt he was being used. His speech got louder and more obnoxious and soon he grabbed the drum kit and starting throwing various pieces into the audience. He injured a couple of people. He was finally coaxed off-stage and after some time, the Beach Boys came out to finish the show. The next day, John Cougar vowed to the people of London that he would return and do a concert for the people that came to see him. True to his word, he did. They gave away tickets on a radio station. A week or so later, I remember reading an article about the whole thing in Rolling Stone magazine. It was quite the experience. Other concerts that stand out for me would be Queen at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1982 (Billy Squier as opening act); The Who at Maple Leaf Gardens (the first final show that was shown on TV around the world) and The Doobie Brothers at the same venue in London in 1980. -
Parks Coasters and Rides in Movies and TV

It was a long time ago and at my age the memory fails, but I remember The Banana Splits at PKI I think. -

I am an IT consultant working with IBM mid-range series hardware (AS/400 or iSeries as they are now called). This is the computer room that one of my clients has - I spend about 50% of my time a week there. The black units are the newer of AS/400 systems in the pictures. Their old beige coloured systems are in the background. My client is very particular about the lok of the computer room. He put down red packing tape on the floor to plan out where each unit would sit. Once it was done, it looked like Stonehenge. AS/400 model 500 (left) and AS/400 model 300. AS/400 model 700 with SPD sidecar (left) and the 3570 tape library on the right.

Your favorite artist and work of art
RBOrrell replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Random, Random, Random
Not far from my house and even closer to PCW is the McMichael Collection gallery. It primarily holds the collection of the Canadian artists the Group of Seven. A.J. Casson is one of the artists. http://www.mcmichael.com is the link for the Collection. White Pine by A.J. Casson -
The only pet we have (except for 4 fish in an aquarium) is my daughter Caitlin's guinea pig "Dusty". Why Dusty? When we first got her (she's almost 4 now) and we would let her run around in our sunken living room to play. She got in behind some furniture and found a dust-bunny. When she came out, she had the dust-bunny stuck on her. We called her Dusty and that point and it stuck. So much for the cleanliness of the house. Dusty the wonder GP

I drink Coke never Pepsi. An interesting thing though the Coke we make here is Canada is not as sweet as the US Coke. Our Coke has a bite when you drink it. Pepsi here is too sweet. If I am at a fast-food place that has Pepsi and their products only, I will get orange or lemonade instead. I am really disappointed that Harvey's now is serving Pepsi. Their burgers and fries went so well with Coke.

Julie's Vacation on a Stick Photo TR - Day 6
RBOrrell replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I was in San Francisco in early June staying at a 5-star hotel downtown. At 1:00 in the afternoon, housekeeping had not yet come to the room. My SO had just arrived. We had not seen each other for a few days and things led from one thing to another, yada yada. When the phone rings, it was housekeeping checking to see if they could do the room because the DND sign was on the door. Good thing she did not come in the room. -

As a Canadian and a curler, I love my beer. Having said that, I have different tastes. In the summer, I will usually drink Sleeman Steam, Formosa Draft or if I feel tre-chic, Kawartha's Raspberry-Wheat. In the Winter months, you need a something with a little more meat on it bones. After a curling game, it's Wellington's Pale Ale or a Rickards Red. At Christmas time I have Sleeman's Original Stout. The stout also goes real well with a Cuban Cohiba Espendido. Of course with a cigar that big, you need 2 stouts. I was away on business in Akron about 18 months ago. I was introduced to the Great Lakes beers - I was very impressed.

Ballparks! Your favorite/least favorite?
RBOrrell replied to CoasterEricHP's topic in Random, Random, Random
Bad ball parks -> Toronto Blue Jays' "Rogers Centre" used to be SkyDome - it was cute in the beginning but no atmosphere. Worse ball parks -> Toronto Blue Jays' "Exibition Stadium" - old CFL park turned into a ball park - freezing cold in April and October. Best ball park I've seen -> Boston's Fenway Ball parks I miss - Tiger Stadium and Cleveland's Municipal stadium (can you get the mustard they used on the 'dogs there?) -
I voted NO but as a Canadian, officially we are not members of the Coalition of the Willing. There is no proven linkage between 9/11 and Iraq. There were no WofMD. The Iraq conflict, IMHO, is a continuation of Desert Storm for GWB to finish what his dad did not want to (or could not) finish. I have travelled in the US quite a bit since 9/11 and I can really see how US media vs. Canadian media show a different point of view of what is going on. As much as it scares me, The Daily Show is probably more accurate than the major US-based media. ================================== No that's off my chest, the NHL is back!!

Okay, here are four that happened to me last week at PCW when I was there with my 10 year old daughter. xx. If you are a group of three, don't get into a coaster row as three and then when you get to the front and you're next, don't ask the person in the next row if it's okay if you single friend can go in front so that the three of you can ride together. I have been in the queue just as long as you, figure it out and prepare. xx. If someone asks you if you want to go in front of them to even out the two rows so that they can ride together, check first to see if it messes up your sequence so you don't have to ask someone else if you can go in front of them. xx. If you are going to chew gum, throw it in the garbage can and not on the ground. See all those black spots on the ground, that used to be gum. When PCW opened 25 years ago, they did not sell gum nor allowed it in the park. It was a good idea. xx. I know you are in "love" and it's boring waiting in line, but please stop making out, grinding your crotches together or fondling each other's bodies. It is a family park and besides, you are only 15 years old. There, that's my rant from an over-40 something.

I just got back from a conference in San Francisco. I was there for a week. It is quite an enjoyable city however I was really surprised to see the number of homeless. I was in the O'Farrell/Powell area and they were everywhere.
