  1. yes! Do you like old school wooden coasters?
  2. Man I still want to go on El Toro one day! Seems so epic and the best wooden coaster ever! Anyways for Goliath and Raging Bull I think they are interchangeable for me it seems. Like sometimes it seems RB's drop is better and sometime it seems Goliath's is better. Last time I went to Great America I found Goliath's drop to be more intense then raging bulls. Still I enjoy both and for me a Great America trip doesnt feel complete without riding both RB and Goliath!
  3. It looks and sounds like this ride is going to be epic! The idea of a super steep 200 ft tall drops on a wooden coaster sounds like it would be so much fun. Coasters been around for more then 100 years and I bet the people of those days could never imagine the mega coasters we have now! One thing I know about coasters back in the day is all though they werent nearly as tall steep or fast they did lack seat belts/lap bars. So that gave them a whole different type of thrill. Obviously the lack of belt or bar would be a bad idea for todays mega coasters.
  4. My home park is Six Flags Great America of course. Attractions that I know of are of course Keylime Cove. A fun indoor waterpark resort with a fun little water park, beach side inspired shops, and a big arcade. There is also the Gurnee Mall which is a nice good sized mall to hang out at if you like to shop and such. During my Keylime trip we went to that mall and they also had a reptile house exhibit. Not sure if they still have it or not. They also had other little misc attractions in that mall. Like a tornado wind simulator tube you stand in. A motion simulator ride in middle of the food court. They also have a Rainforest Cafe. Which is a really neat place to eat.
  5. ^ Although I never been to any of those mini old parks you listed for some reason I find Camden and Arnolds very interesting. I like to look up videos about them all the time. I guess because they reminds me of those really old picnic parks you'd hear the elderly mention. As silly as this sounds Camden looks like a run down hillbilly-ish park but I think thats what makes it so unique and interesting . Would i want to travel there just to go to that park? Probably not but Im sure if I was ever in the area I think it would be cool to stop by. While Camden is the trolley line type park,Arnolds is the old school lake side park. Another type of park that was very common in the day. Also Arnolds has a lot of unique old school looking rides. That fun house and bug house swing ride look really neat too. As coasters go both Big Dipper and Legend look really small compare to many modern coasters but I'm sure the age and creakyness will make those two coasters thrilling in their own ways.
  6. I been to Kings Island only once years ago. Never been to KD but if i was to choose if i want to go back to Kings Island or try out KD. I'd go with KD as i never been there at all and it also have I-305 one of the coasters i wish to try. Cedar Point or knoebels
  7. speaking of top 5 ill list the top 5 coasters mentioned here i wish to ride one day but never did yet in order (steel or wood) 1.Fury 325 2.I-305 3.El Toro 4.Skyrush 5.Lightning Rod (although i hear that coaster doesnt always work well but still looks really fun) Bonus rides in my "i want to try" list 1.X2 2.the Superman ride at MM although its considered "on trick pony" looks cool for the speed and height 3.Kingda Ka 4.Diamond Back at Kings Island 5.any other RMC or/and the future RMC'd Meanstreak
  8. Im sure if I been to as many parks are most others here my lists would be a lot better but anyways here goes: Steel- 1.M-Force 2.Top Thrill Dragster 3.Mavrick and Magnum id say is a tie for me as they are both on the same level and fun in different ways 4.Ride of Steel at Darien Lake although I haven't been there since 2005 but i remember it being an epic coaster(yea the straight tracks were a little long at some parts but most of the coaster was a lot of fun 5.Shiekra and Valravn-Yes these may not be the most intense for the most part, but I think their tall straight drop dives are a lot of fun and kind of intense in a way. Wood- 1.Goliath at Great America yes its short but still A LOT of fun also its the only RMC I been on. I would like to go on more one day 2.Voyage 3.Hades I know its an unpopular choice but i still remember enjoying it a lot. Was intense and fast. One thing I didnt like about it though was the fact it slammed my side up against the side of the coaster in the tunnel. 4.American Eagle at Great America 5.Ledgend Holiday World Boy how I wish my wood coaster list was more exciting though....kinda of disappointed with my own list :/ Meh hopefully in the future I will go to many more parks. For example im sure if I went to Great Adventure El Toro would of been my top wood coaster.
  9. Honestly its kind of hard to rank the top CP coasters when I think about it. Like if someone was to ask what is more fun? Mavrick or Top Thrill? It would honestly be hard for me to choose because to me they are both very fun in their own ways. TTD for its awesome intense speed and height. Yet Mavrick's first drop seems actually more intense then TTD's drop even though its like 300 ft shorter! Also of course Mavrick lasts longer and has cool intense transitions. So I think both are fun in different ways. Also M-Force has an EPIC first drop! That "oh-my-god im falling!!" feeling is so awesome. However Magnum to me seem to have better air time while its first drop wasnt as exciting. If I remember when on Magnum, for some odd reason, the second half of the first drop seemed to slow down. It was weird. But again the airtime through out rest of the coaster was awesome. However if someone was to ask me what my favorite coaster there is I would pick M-Force because of its height, speed, and of course that awesome first drop! But in all honesty I thought all the coasters there were fun. Even the oldies like Gemini and Corkscrew. Iron Dragon wasnt like OMG THIS IS SO EPIC!! but it was unique. So for the most part they were all fun in different ways. Of course tough I wouldnt go back to Cedar Point just to ride Iron Dragon or Corkscrew for example.
  10. ^I had to look up Riverside as I never heard of it. Learned its now a Six Flags park. I think thats neat they "Six Flagged" an old park.
  11. I think its a toss up btw Magnum and Mavrick for me. As in its hard to pick which one I like better. I think they are equal but fun in different ways.
  12. Yea I did notice a lot of those newer parks closed too. Honestly the mid to late 2000s were not good years for amusement parks in general.I even heard a few times Magic Mountain was gonna close down of all places! Magic Mountains??? Isnt that like Six Flags flag ship park?? Isnt MM like one of the best parks in the country? I guess you could call it the mini "dark ages" of amusement parks. No where near as big the Great Depression of course though.
  13. ^^ Oh yea! I forgot about that thread...lol.
  14. I dont find hypers or gigs overrated! They are one of my favorite types of coaster! Then again I love high up/tall drop thrills. But yea I myself loved Magnum as well. I noticed it doesnt get a lot of love in the coaster community. Yea I know its kind of painful but its still a lot of fun and the airtime on it towards the end is awesome! Unlike most coaster fans slight pain doesnt bother me when it comes to a coaster. Just as long as its actually fun and I'm not actually injured. lol.
  15. #bump Yea I know this thread is a little old but I found it interesting. I have this book about all the parks here in America as well as Canada. I mentioned the book before on here a few times I think. I got it sometime in 2004 but it was written in 2003. Even then I loved parks and would read it all the time. However I do notice A LOT of those parks mentioned in the book are no longer around. The author who wrote it I assumed visited the parks all in the early 2000s. I find it weird how so many parks dropped off the face of the earth just with in a little over a decade. I noticed 2006 to like 2009 was the worst years for amusement parks. Im guessing it was because of the economy. Heck even bigger parks were closing if I remembered so I image it was hard for small family owned parks. But yea I sometimes wonder if parks from that era would survive today or not myself. Im sure if its in a heavy populated area and a lot cheaper then most main parks Im sure it will get a good amount of people. If its pretty much in the middle of nowhere with unreasonable prices then most likely no. And even if it did have good prices it probably wouldnt get much attention. On similar note me being a 90s kid I sadly never got to experience growing up near a local small town park like many older people have described. I hear stories of 60s and 70s kids saying how they rode their bikes to their local park and went several days of the summer. From the talks of it,it seemed a common as going to the local playground! I wish I could of experienced that. I went to many childhood carnivals but of course thats not the same Carnivals are here and gone. Im sure if I lived by a local park as a child we would be there a lot. Considering me and the kids on my block were always playing together,we would of always went. But I know it sounds pathetic but I envy people from the older generations because of that.
  16. This is a little hard for me as i might not remember everything but Ill put down what i remember having the most fun on. 1.Falcon Fury drop tower-BGT 2.Drop Tower-Kings Island 3.Giant Drop-Six Flags Great America 4.Sky Hawk-Cedar Point 5.Apollo's Swing-Mt Olympus 7.Dudly Doos log flume-IOA 8.Jarrastic Park river ride-IOA 9.Double Shot-Indiana Beach 10.King Chaos-Six Flags Great America
  17. Yea I thought those places were geared more towards 10 year olds....I admit I wish they can make a family fun center for adults. Think Dave and Busters but with indoor thrill rides added to it! It would be a really tall building and have rides like a skycoaster, sling shot,Sky Scraper, free fall nothing-but-net,double shot drop towers, cool interactive dark rides, maybe even a small compact but thrilling coaster. Like an El Loca with a lazor light show and techno music! It will also have stuff that appeals to both kids and adults like lazor tag and go carts(super fast ones not the ones that drag at snails pace) . It will also have raves and live concerts.(im not a rave person but im sure it would make the place a lot of fun and lively) It will of course have a bar and sports bar restaurant. Three floors of several arcade games. I'd spend all day there if there was a place like that.
  18. getting stuck in a really really bad neighborhood during night. Whats worse then a vegan shaming you for loving meat?
  19. I never been to this park. Dont live anywhere near here even (obviously) However whats interesting to me about this park is how much "hate" it seems to get by the coaster community lol. Since I been on here the two most disliked "major" parks on here is this one and of course Michigan's Adventure. Which I never been to either. Since I been to neither I can't say if I'd dislike them or not. However they wouldn't be my first choices to go to either. Ok here is a fun little question if you "had" to go to one of these two parks for a day which one would you pick? From the looks of it I'd probably pick MA. Its closer to where I live,it has Shivering Timbers which looks like a really awesome wooden coaster, and I heard it has a really fun waterpark. So I'd go with MA myself.
  20. Last time I went was in September of 2014. Although I do remember lockers I dont remember the whole finger print thing nor the metal detectors to get on coasters. All that sounds crazy though! I understand they care about safety but thats why you have the metal detectors in the front of the park! I can see that really slowing the lines up too. They probably do it to make sure you dont have stuff with you so you have to use their lockers. Sounds greedy if you ask me! Six Flags and Cedar Fair parks just use the cubbies that are on the coaster/ride platforms. I dont know about you but to me that just makes Universal look the greediest of them all. I dont know seems like a hassle to me. As for the finger prints for the lockers you would think it would be quicker then just punching in a code or using a key but it seems from this thread people are having frustrations with that too. Thats the thing about finger print scanners, card scanners etc. They may be quicker but they dont often work that well. Scanning like 10 times in a row only to get "excess denied" over and over will make you wish you can go back to the old less tech way....
  21. RMC has already had its fill of lightning named coasters... As far as the name goes, I tossed my quarter in the wishing well for something terrible. Like "Brown Coaster 1" or "The Pride of Sandusky." Basically anything that will cause a select portion of the coaster enthusiast community to lose their minds. Oh, and I hope it has the most basic two dimensional logo ever created, pulled straight from Microsoft Word, using black Times New Roman font, and a rainbow drawn in cheap crayon from Mrs. Smith's third grade class at Sandusky Elementary School, on a coffee stained piece of paper. Also it will be held by tons of duck tape
  22. I say its a portal to another dimension. Dont know to what dimension but just a different one then ours. The time will be different then ours too. So while it will only take a few seconds to get through the shed in this dimension we will spend what seems like hours. Once we leave the shed and get done with the coaster. We will say its one of the greats coasters ever! Maybe inside the dimension will be another coaster that would make the great mega coasters like Fury325,I-305,and M Force look like measly carnie kiddie coasters! It will be a thrilling adventure of a life time!
  23. Oh a waterpark and arcades? Well that does sound fun. Im guessing then its like one of those fun piers but instead in town strip form.
  24. For some reason i recently got obsessed with Big Bang Theory. I know I mentioned it before on here but lately I REALLY been into it! I love quirky eccentric characters and in many ways I can relate to both Sheldon and Amy. I also think they are the most adorable couple ever!! (i know that sounds lame, lol) I love those eccentric nerd/Aspergers-like characters. Its also why Death Note is one of my favorite animes with L and Near. I know several other shows have that type of character but most are in those crime type shows, and although very popular now, those shows just arnt my cup of tea... As for Parenthood I'm not really into those "house wife" type dramas either. Point is I dont watch much TV and my tv show interests are clearly lacking. However there is still some stuff I enjoy like a lot of anime, cartoons,Big Bang Theory. I also watch the IT Crowd once in a great while too. Its a British sitcom with nerd characters as well.
  25. I heard Geneva on the Lake used to have a mini amusement park at one point. Never heard of the place(amusement park or the small town) though until I joined this site. But of course they got rid of it. So I'm guessing GotL is more of the "grown up" alternative to Sandusky. Like instead of the great mega amusement park and abundance of water park hotels its more about partying and couples strolling on the beach. Meh that sounds ok and all but since im a kid at heart and LOVE coasters Ill take Sandusky over Geneva anyday!! Nothing against drinking though as its fun to do sometimes but it wouldnt be my main vacation choice .(like it would be a side thing id like to do during a vacation but not as mainly the ONLY thing I'd do like many others would.) As for the tranquil romantic strolls and mani/pedi and spa type stuff......yawns and lame sauce!!
