  1. ? ? Can't you just try it for yourself, especially since it's in Virginia? It seems like a fun little coaster.
  2. I didn't have much of a problem with roughness on Grizzly. It was pretty violent, aggressive, and shaky, but still smooth enough to be re-rideable.
  3. I absolutely love hang-time, as long as there's strong positive-g elements as well. And I definitely prefer slow barrel rolls/hartline rolls that really dump you out of the train over floaty inversions like you get on Hydra.
  4. I didn't do the seatbelt trick on Magnum any of the times I rode it. It was definitely jarring and sometimes a little painful, but not as bad as people say. It's one of my favorite steel coasters partly because of the aggressiveness of it. But it's probably way more comfortable with the trick.
  5. I went to the park yesterday with some friends who aren't enthusiasts, so it wasn't a ride-centered day like Saturday, especially since it was surprisingly crowded, even considering how nice the weather was. More rides were having issues than yesterday, but still okay for opening weekend. Like Saturday, the ride operations were generally decent (great for Six Flags standards). The employees at the metal detectors/front gate and people running the restaurants seemed a bit slow, even for opening weekend. But we had a great time. Rides: El Toro - Second-to-last row. This was one of the best rides I've ever had on it! The lap bar was pretty loose, it was hauling ass, and it's still so smooth. Still the best coaster ever! Bizarro - Back row. Seriously, this thing is running so well and kick-ass so far this season! Runaway Mine Train - First row of the back car. Sky Ride Batman: The Ride - Back row, right seat. WOW! This lap on it really got me good! Nitro - Second-to-last row. Great ride on it. The Dark Knight - My friends wanted to go on it. It's fine. Sky Screamer Oh yeah, we also saw the lion cubs!!!
  6. Wow, I knew Mystery Mine didn't get enough love, but I had no idea this many people didn't like it at all.
  7. I was at the park from around 4:30 to 7. I was actually going on rides for 2 hours, then I had Johnny Rocket's and left. It was a really good time. The operations were actually pretty fast for the first weekend of the season. The crowds were very manageable. The longest I waited was 10 minutes for El Toro, and every other line I waited on was a walk-on or a few trains. I'm going back tomorrow, but I'm going to be there at opening. This seems like a promising season so far! Rides: Twister Superman: Ultimate Flight - Back row. Seriously, this thing still looks like a dilapidated chinese knockoff. Really nice ride as always though. El Diablo El Toro - Second-to-last row. Running great. Bizarro - Front row. It's running really smoothly compared to last season. And thank god there were only two trains! Runaway Train - Front row. Skyride - This was the first time I actually ever rode it. I should use more. It's actually really convenient. I'm not obsessed with it, but I do see how it could appeal to certain people here. Skull Mountain x 2 - Second-to-last row twice without getting up. It doesn't have all the effects going yet, and there was a huge light pointing towards a wall of insulation. Spooky! Great drop as always and good twistiness. Nitro - Back row. Batman: The Ride - Back row.
  8. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard was great! There were two opening acts. The first was Stonefield, and while I don't care for their studio material at all, their songs were actually really good live. On their albums they sound like a mainstream garage/hard rock band, but their sound is way more atmospheric and trippy live. Then Orb played, and even though they probably sound a little too much like Black Sabbath, they're really good, so that's what matters. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is definitely the best live band I've ever seen so far (even though I've only seen 10 in total as of now.) It used to be a toss-up between Dinosaur Jr. and Full of Hell. They played really well, extended their songs a lot of the time into long jams, and the most noticeable thing is that they are quite a bit heavier live. Their setlist was perfect. They started off playing almost all of the tracks from Flying Microtonal Banana, more than half of Nonagon Infinity, and even some tracks from I'm in Your Mind Fuzz. In the middle of the set they played "The River" from their album Quarters, which I usually don't care for, but was important to the setlist to have a nice and chill song, and it was great. They also finished with a jam/medley of a bunch of tracks. The mosh pit was surprising, and in some ways it was more chaotic and exhausting than the show I saw last week. It was an amazing night, and I really think KG&tLW might be one of the best and most entertaining bands of this generation.
  9. Friday is when I play vinyl records the most, and tonight I'm listening to Amber Mote in the Black Vault 7" EP by Full of Hell, Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division, and Larks' Tongues in Aspic by King Crimson. Right now "I Remember Nothing" by Joy Division is on! I don't really listen to individual tracks, so I'm just listing albums so this post won't be multiple tracklists long.
  10. ^The single rider line is iffy. On my last visit they weren't using it, when I asked about it the worker had no idea what I was talking about. The line for Impulse was much longer than usual, so my best guess is that's the reason why they didn't use it, but I don't know.
  11. ^I've actually come to enjoy the back of Batman more over time. The first drop is actually excellent because of the whip it has!
  12. I always do Flying Turns first and line up before it opens.
  13. I think it would be cool if it had sort of a Vekoma-Madhouse-style ride section at the end by having the room inside the shed rotate. I would love to see that on some coasters, but for Mystic Timbers I'm still predicting some spooky lights/maybe animatronic/whatever and a gift shop.
  14. The Nails show at Union Transfer was absolutely incredible, and possibly life-changing. The lineup was godly of course, but the crowd was the thing that made it so great. The mosh pit was absolutely wild. There was nonstop slam dancing, and the circle pit was brutal. The area near the front was insane as well, and by the end of it there was at least one person stage diving at all times. It was out of control, but great. The bands themselves did a great job. Outer Heaven was really good, Gatecreeper put on a great show, Full of Hell probably put on the best and most passionate performance that night, Toxic Holocaust was where the pit started to get really good and they had a good stage presence, and Nails was loud, grimy, and they have the best songs in my opinion. I picked up Gatecreeper's LP (their only studio album so far) on olive green, kind of granite-pattern vinyl and a Full of Hell 7" on clear vinyl with gold blobs in it. All the merch costed $20, which is a great deal when it comes to records these days. Next up is King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard this Thursday!
  15. Be careful saying that...the enthusiasts will accuse Kennywood of marketing the Turtle as a roller coaster!
  16. The only time I went, Leap the Dips AND the rare Skydiver ride were closed. The park sucked ass, but they did have an old-school Octopus ride that was pretty wild (and sketchy), a weird old tilt-a-whirl-whip hybrid which was interesting, a round-up, and Skyliner was a lot of fun. It would be a dream come true if Lamemont closed and DelGrosso's bought up their few good rides (since that's a very enjoyable park super close by that could actually benefit from those.)
  17. The last time I saw a concert was Dinosaur Jr. in November. Negative Approach opened for them and played a set of all Easy Action songs. Dinosaur Jr. was absolutely incredible. They're just one of those bands where each member is insanely talented! Tonight I'm seeing Nails, Full of Hell, Toxic Holocaust, Outer Heaven, and Gatecreeper!
  18. Now that would be awesome! It's a shame that the only Schwarzkopf I've been on is SooperDooperLooper, which is a small one, but it's really good for what it is. I should try to get on Wildcat at Ocean City MD soon (which is also a small Schwarzkopf, but there really aren't many around, both in general, but especially nearby.)
  19. The real POV makes the ride look way more appealing than the animation did. It looks like it has a nice pace!
  20. White Lightnin' has 6 cars, Invadr has 8 That I did not know. It still looks shorter, is 8 cars the standard for GCI? It's usually 12 or so for the larger ones.
  21. There seems to be two red coasters that start with the letter "M" that you seemed to forget!
  22. Exactly. I haven't been back since they re-profiled the drop AND added the standard (not as fun) PTC (Nurse) ratchet bars. I want to remember it how it was. They moved the ledgers on that drop a few inches here and there, and it's reported to be a much tamed-down drop. A few inches here and there is all it takes, I've experienced GCIs work on HWs legend (the snap on the first drop is gone) and Yankee Cannonball (nearly all airtime is gone), and I can confirm a few inches is all it takes to completely neutralize some previously great airtime. I don't know who did the Cyclops work, but the process is similar. It can sometimes be the opposite, too. When the Great White at Morey's Piers was almost entirely re-tracked last year, the airtime moments were definitely more noticeable, intense pops of air than before.
