  1. I didn't say I believed it...I wanted to know if it had any credit at the time. Rumours start for a reason. Moving a "theme park" is nothing in the grand scale of things. They have moved bigger things than that....take Hong Kong airport as an example. While it may have seemed like a "stupid" rumour...it must have been started for a reason..that is all I was interested in. Lets be honest...on this Wonderland thread...the minute any sort of paint, marker, work etc is spotted on any area of the Wonderland property we all start speculating on what they are actually going to build there....when sometimes it actually only is general maintenance work. Thus the rumour mill starts.
  2. I heard a rumour back in the Paramount days that the park was going to be sold and moved to the Niagara region (so they could use the land for houses). Does anyone know if this actually had legs...or was it just one of those "Toronto needs space for houses so lets look at any piece of land that might be going rumours?" RE The hospital build...it did take them a while to finally get it started.
  3. I would say that given that this hobby is entirely subjective...then our opinions do not matter in the slightest.
  4. I found Tatsu to be more fun at night, especially the Pretzel loop!
  5. If the GP aren't regular coaster riders..then it is understandable. I am just trying to think off the top of my head of any hobby (outside of maybe gymnastics) that would involve subjecting your body to g-forces and inverting you 4-7 times in a two minute period. Unless people have been up in an aerobatic plane, there are not many situations that would put you in this scenario..outwith a coaster with a load of inversions. I am pretty sure that over 75% of this forum has seen someone throw up at a theme park after getting off a ride...and usually after a forceful coaster or a nasty evil spinning ride. It would not surprise me in the least if the GP are of the notion "I don't want that to be me!" I think because it is the only way you can do it without going up in a plane, or attaching yourself to one of those springy bungy things and jumping up and down on a trampoline. Plus...for a lot of people..it would feel like the "Safest" way to do it.
  6. For me...not really...it just depends on the coaster...and I fall into the category of "a good coaster is a good coaster"...inversions or not. I appreciate the different g forces, air times, sensations, sight lines etc from various coaster elements. My own personal opinion is that you can go overboard with too many inversions...and a ride can get rather boring (to me) with the same element repeated over and over (even with the different types of inversions you get that are being discussed on another thread).
  7. I love this roller coaster hobby simply because it is funny when you feel so out of step with everyone else. In this case..both myself and the missus found Kumba to be "Meh". That is in no way a comment on the ride...just we didn't find it that impressive. Oh well....for this thread....I think the pretzel loop on Tatsu is the most intense moment I have felt on a B and M...followed by the first drop on Leviathan. In terms of overall ride?? Tatsu...but then I think flyers are probably my favourite type of coaster.
  8. Pretzel loop on Tatsu.....at night.
  9. 1 Facebook....I have lived in afew countries so I use facebook to stay in touch with friends. Don't post much on theme park facebook sites. 2 You Tube...watch music videos and watch the TPR roller coaster vids aswell Don't use any of the others. I will post on various sites like TPR for coaster related stuff. Other than that I post a lot in aviation related sites for educational and work related stuff.
  10. I forgot "Laff Track" this year...which I think is why the line ups were LONNNGGG!!!!!
  11. Nice thread. My choices aren't based on what I think, but which coasters my son has enjoyed the most (and wanted to ride again and again and again and again). Air Grover at Busch Gardens Tampa Woody Woodpecker Universal Studios Road Runner at SFMM Thunder Run at Canada's Wonderland Backlot Stunt Coaster, Canada's Wonderland We are talking for a 7 year old here. I am happy he likes the Stunt Coaster because it is quite good fun and the "launch" at the start is quite quick be it for adult or child.
  12. Oblivion and Air at Alton Towers. (I was a year too late when Nemesis opened which was a shame). Colossus at Thorpe park Behemoth, Leviathan and Guardian at CW Both Harry Potter Rides at Universal Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, MK
  13. Interesting. Thankyou. The TPR video of Full Throttle at SFMM, when the train goes over the top of the loop, is that shot taken by a drone? It provides a spectacular perspective whichever way it was filmed!
  14. I would be interested to read/hear what type of regulations and rules you would have to follow if you needed to use Drones for TPR videos. They have become a bit of a "problem" from an air traffic control perspective, and the licencing and regulations have increased tenfold in the last few years. We have just had to watch a new training module regarding their use. I can see however that they would provide an awesome perspective from a Theme park/ride point of view...I will keep an interested eye for if and when you start to use them on a regular basis. Have you found people/companies asking TPR if you would like to use them, or have you made the limited requests so far?
  15. Home park is Canada's Wonderland. Best coaster for me is Leviathan, in the front row on a sunny day. The first drop is still one of my favourites. Behemoth is a close second. Pre Cedar Fair days in the dark days of Paramount, I would have said "Vortex" was my favourite, and to be honest I still think it is great fun..and it carries a lot more force than it looks from watching on the ground.
  16. Nice job. Is it located in the "Wild Beast" spot? I am sure it has been discussed before, is there any merit to RMC ing Minebuster or Wild Beast? I have yet to experience actually going on one yet (I hope to make Iron Rattler my first next year). Would those coasters lend themselves to actually being a good layout? Do Cedar fair have any contracts with RMC as I am unaware of any parks in the chain that have used them yet?
  17. . Agree 100%. I have not ridden Apollo's Chariot in 7 years...but when I did, at the time it blew me away as it was my first B and M hyper. The memory of that remains to this day hence it remains in my top 5. Since I rode AC I have been on a lot more different types of coaster, so when Wonderland built Behemoth, which is similar...I liked it a lot..but it didn't have the same wow factor as my first ride on Apollo. I put this down to being more familiar with the type of ride that a B and M gives you. Maybe when I go back to Busch Gardens my opinion of Apollo's Chariot will change....but at this point I still remember hanging on for dear life over the hills and LOVING the treeline.
  18. Hit 40 this year, and although I feel different playing football (soccer) now than I did 20 years ago, I don't feel any different on coasters or at theme parks. I have tried to stay fit and I walk and cycle a lot...so maybe this helps. My wife was amazed though at Seaworld last year when we rode Manta, her ride companion was an 82 year old Grandma. When my wife asked why she was still on coasters at age 82 (and she had done Kraken earlier in the day)...she said she wasn't the type to sit around "knitting on the front porch". I hope I can still be getting on the rides at 82!!!...although by then they will probably be 0-500 mile an hour launched rides that go 800 feet up before inverting you 20 odd times. I might not have the gumption by then!
  19. I had read about the restraint complaints but was surprised to find they were fine when I rode. I understand why Gatekeeper is "underrated" in the coaster community as it dosen't deliver the full pop that some people expect or would like. I just think people are a bit harsh on it because it is nowhere close to being a BAD ride, and wing coasters still aren't really all that common, so for the GP or a first timer...it still delivers enough to make it fun. All is fair though....I am still a heretic for preferring Leviathan to Millenium force
  20. Gatekeeper at CP gets a tough time on this site, but I found it to be fun, smooth and pretty exciting (in places). The keyhole elements also made for an enjoyable section. Not in my top 10..but I certainly don't think it deserves all the criticism it gets from enthusiasts and so for me it is underrated.
  21. I found the Star Wars plane if anyone is interested...I am not a spotter (even though I work in aviation) but I do find these quite smart. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/photos/on-board-the-star-wars-themed-boeing-dreamliner-1.3315547 The WestJet plane has not been in the hangar yet since it started service, I still intend to get some pics when it does.
  22. Thanks, I get it now. Personally I don't understand this idea of Virtual reality on a roller coaster. To me the whole point of a ride is taking in the sights and sounds and panorama of what is around me...putting a headset over my eyes to watch a virtual landscape defeats that point. I will take VR on a simulator ride, a roller coaster should remain "au naturel" !
  23. With apologies, but what is a "VR Coaster"? Air was the first Coaster I took my future wife on, so there is a certain fondess for it.
  24. Awesome, thank you. Is this a fondly remembered ride at Universal or had it reached the end of its shelf life and people are happy that they moved on (especially given how popular the Simpsons became).?
  25. What was the "Back to the Future" ride? None of my friends/colleagues have/had been to Universal when this was open. I was a BIG fan of the movie, so I am presuming the ride would have been pretty smart?
