I'm gonna be honest, Diamondback's splashdown is even more pointless than Griffon's. Honestly they don't really do anything for the ride experience, and it's purely visual, which you can't even see unless you're not on the ride. It also serves a mechanical purpose, acting as a brake though Shambhala's isn't even natural Disagree, both splashdowns are awesome and provide a good visual for spectators. I like them both. I agree with your disagreement. Splashdowns are awesome. Especially if you are sitting in the front row, you feel like you are skimming across the water. It not only is awesome visually OFF the ride, but it is awesome visually in the front row of the ride. Splashdowns are highly underrated. I forgot to mention that this was all speculative, as I've never actually experienced one. I was going off POV's where you can't really see anything but I guess if you have the panoramic view from your eyes you can actually see it. My bad, minor miscommunication there -
What is your favorite Roller Coaster?
Coaster Hero replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well ok then. 1. This insane thing. Like, what in the world was Intamin thinking putting something this big so close to the ground? That twisty piece of steel in the top right corner of the first pic seems like it shouldn't even be possible. 2. This stack of wood is just doing things that wooden coasters shouldn't even be able to do. The airtime is ridiculous, I mean, the top wheels don't even touch the track on the airtime hills. Oh yeah, and that element in the first picture is by far the most insane, thigh bruising airtime I've ever experienced. 3. Since SF can't maintain their rides (jk), the launch acceleration of this coaster is not even constant. It feel like you accelerate initially, stop for a split second, then jerk forward again, and you're just going so fast it's ridiculous and it doesn't even feel real. You're plastered to your seat half the time and it's just so much fun it never gets old. 4. [tie] This ride is fun. Really fun. The layout is really great and isolated; as they say "nobody goes into Nitro's woods at night". If you get a good train, a fast ride, a good seat, and the MCBR happens to not activate you get borderline ejector on the airtime hills. http://themeparkreview.com/parks/pimages/Six_Flags_Great_Adventure/TPRs_Road_to_Cedar_Point_Tour_2011/great_adventure_074.jpg 4. [tie] I honestly can't decide which hyper is better. Behemoth is ridiculously photogenic, from the colors, to the massive size, to the shape of the elements, the layout itself, even the trains look good. The drop is fantastic, even better than Nitro's. Consecutive airtime hills are the best thing to happen to hyper coasters. 5. This thing is underrated. There, I said it. The helixes for some reason have both positives and lats, and though the first airtime hill wasn't that great, every single airtime hill after that delivered strong ejector. I can only imagine how good the SFNE version is. -

If it's in the same area Taron is in, I think we might need to recheck that 58 crossovers thing I mean, could you imagine? -
B&M Restraints: Old vs. New
Coaster Hero replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Forgot about that aspect. It's kinda awkward, but it's worse if you have someone next to you that won't give you any space for your arm at all -

^Maybe the dive, arguably the hyper, definitely not the invert. Especially considering Stengel's older designs, the invert is by far the most intense B&M coaster type. Also, most of the wingriders aren't very intense either. Especially with roll transitions, they have to be very slow to accommodate the trains -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

"If you distribute the weight crazy enough, you can almost flip your boat over on the log flume." Not sure if this is even possible, though I've heard from some people that it was doable on Log Jammer -
Oh well.. that's a shame. I guess Sunday it is then. Also, they will run Kingda Ka if it's not raining, even if it just rained. I went back in April and no less than 10 minutes after the rain stopped I was able to get a few re-rides on it. ^Zumanjaro also closes for rain like Kingda Ka. It once closed right when we got to the front after waiting an hour.

I could see Hershey's Wildcat or Gwazi being the next RMC'd GCI's OH YES OH YES OH YES PLEASE LET THIS BE THE CASE. There would finally be an RMC within reasonable driving distance! This x1000. I'd love an RMC so close by. Back on topic, maybe they'll add the tunnel last minute like with Leviathan. Just a thought. I'm aware that this is SF we're talking about by the way

While I do think a wingrider would be a great fit, I think a hyper coaster is another choice that would be better IMO. B&M hyper coasters balance thrill and ride experience, it's something both enthusiasts (the ones who don't whine about B&M's being forceless anyway) and the GP can enjoy. They are immensely popular, and would give KD a great airtime machine. Plus, it's sister park KI and CW have one, so I don't see why they can't add one here. And to say that it wouldn't make sense because I305 is taller is nonsense. CP has MF and now Valravn. (I'm aware the scenario is different because of the time span and the marketing of the dive coaster, but they're essentially similar when looking at the fundamentals). The only thing I'd be concerned about is BGW having one so nearby. -

You'd need at least a little braking. I'm pretty sure going that fast into such a small drop radius would kill you or give you literal ejector . Seriously though, the crest of dive machines' drops is really small to ensure the drop is as long as possible, so braking is a must. But if they braked just enough, you could get some El Toro like airtime theoretically. -

Maybe now (or if they get a flyer) they'll stop going straight to B&M and actually explore other manufactures' options . Joking aside, I really wonder if there's anything left that belongs at CP. Maybe a flyer, perhaps an RMC, but other than that there aren't many coaster types that would make their lineup any more complete than it already is. -

B&M Restraints: Old vs. New
Coaster Hero replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I personally despised the old ones being taller, so headbanging on older B&M's was always a problem unless I rode defensively. With the vests though, the problem is eliminated. You can put your hands up for once, and your upper body is more free. The only complaint I have is the vests that lock get really uncomfortable after a while digging into your shoulders, but really IMO headbanging is far worse. With the free-moving ones that can loosen throughout the ride, I don't even deal with that problem. -
Actually, when you think about it, it's not that far fetched. If the Sandusky Register was correct, Valravn is costing about $15 million, which is more or less the same price as X-Flight. I know that it was quite a while ago, but it's not really impossible. I know a few people have wanted a dive machine here for a long time. Now that I've seen how Valravn will revitalize its surrounding area, I'm even more excited to see what the lakefront will really look like next year. That's another plus.

In terms of aesthetics, it's a very good element. In terms of riding, it's a straightaway above water. Remember, it's just the animation. He usually takes sound samples from a similar coaster (in this case probably Sheikra or Griffon) and mixes it with offride sounds of Gatekeeper from media day. If you listen closely to that video on youtube, you'll see exactly where he got most of his sounds. I'm sure this enormous track will amplify sound like crazy. That's a great way to enter the park for sure! Anyway, about the tunnel, perhaps they'll pull a Leviathan and add a tunnel last minute if they have any extra cash in the budget. Did I mention how good this thing looks in its location? I mean, it may just be the animation at the beginning of the POV looking out of the station, that view is beautiful in it's own "CP generic" way
