Where Are You Going in 2016?
TB305 replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll be visiting my home parks, KD and BGW. If I get a 4.0 GPA my junior year (this year) my parents said we could go to Cedar Point! Depending on what I choose to do next summer, I could possibly go to SWO and Universal. -

I'm gonna have to disagree with this. Every ride I had on Shockwave beat the living crap out of me. In fact one of my last rides on it a few years ago left a decent sized bruise on my hip. That being said, seeing this ride getting torn down doesn't bother me one bit. You didn't understand what I said. I get that it beat many people up, but that's not I meant by how smooth it is. You know those old Arrows where you can feel the car bouncing and jumping around instead of smoothly following the rails? Well, let me be the first to tell you, TOGO did something RIGHT with Shockwave. It's not the only coaster there that is super smooth either. Both Ricochet and Dominator's first drop feel like you're just flying through air and I barely notice that the car is fixed onto rails. Call me crazy, but I feel that King's Dominion (along with Dollywood) has one of the "smoothest" coaster collection I've experienced, including Shockwave. My main point: Shockwave beat the living hell out of people because of the RESTRAINTS (mainly larger people, i'm a short guy), but the trains rode the rails much better than several other coasters that are even several years newer than it. Regardess Shockwave still sucked... Regardless, not everyone thought it sucked... Well, everybody minus one thought it sucked, which percentage wise rounds to 100% of people thought it sucked. I want to see them tear up that turn of death before the break run -

Yea, roll points can be really pesky, but you did an awesome job! You should share this with Hershey park's social media, I'm sure some staff would love to see the screenshots and POVs! -

I'm glad I didn't punch a hole in my computer monitor due to the sheer anger I feel right now, knowing my home park totally psyched everyone out, and having to face the cruel and agonizing truth that the only thing us coaster fans here in the greater Toronto area can do is watch CP build/enjoy their coaster, trying to enjoy the positively "meh" flat rides we've received for 2016, while we wait another eternal season for our own steel masterpiece.... Wait where was I?... Rant aside, I'm glad I didn't punch a hole clean through my monitor, so I can admire raptor's new paint. Holy crap your posts on this subject are so tiresome and overplayed. Every time someone talks about Valravn you complain about CP "stealing" CW's coaster as if CP executives snook into CW storage and took all the pieces for a new coaster. No one stole your coaster because it wasn't ever "your" coaster to begin with. CW is getting tons of investment, so stop acting like its MiA, because in reality, its getting loads of money poured into it. Just because that money isn't manifesting itself as a coaster doesn't make that investment invalid or make the pak neglected. You've gotten a hyper, giga, flat rides, a dark ride, and various other improvements in less than a decade, so please take your irrational viewpoint elsewhere, like a CW fansite or something. On a separate note, does anyone know what happened to the whole FAA conflict? I'm assuming CP resolved the issue because construction is continuing, but when/how was an agreement reached? -
That One Ride You Just Can't Enjoy...
TB305 replied to HAZE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow... Sounds like you're having a terribly sad time enjoying amazing coasters. Sucks for you, dude When you've ridden as many as I have, you don't have to "like" a coaster just because everyone else does. There are much more satisfying coasters out there for me. I understand that, and I know coasters can be overrated. But saying you can't enjoy Maverick or I305 is insane to me, and that's coming from someone who's ridden a lot of coasters as well. How many have you ridden? EDIT: Also, needing to go completely against the grain on popular opinions doesn't make you cool, it just invalidates your opinion. Never trust anyone who "hates" the Beatles! You may not think I305 or Maverick are the best coasters out there, but there's no way you just can't enjoy them. I think it's so dumb when people are anti-Skyrush or anti-Maverick or whatever... Like those are the worst coasters on Earth or something... Probably a good thing that I don't care about "being cool" then. Skyrush would be another coaster that I cannot enjoy. -

Hey guys, I was wondering how to put a custom logo on the front of the train of a B&M Hyper. I have the logo, and I loaded it up under "texture 1" for the zero car of a train on my coaster, but it wasn't even close to being in the correct place. Basically: What are the recommended dimensions for any zero car logo? Where can I import it to the train's zero car, and have it be centered?

Can somebody answer my questions on coasters?
TB305 replied to I love pie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, from experience of riding coasters (as all of us here have), the steeper the curve of a hill is, the more of a "pop" of airtime you will receive. Also, the steepness of the descending drop also can be a factor for how much airtime the riders will experience. The less steep a hill is, the less airtime you'll experience. Also, double-down hills can produce airtime as well. I hope this helps. Thr height of the hill is also a pretty big factor. The ride in your avatar is a perfect example. The beginning few hills on Skyrider (Now freestyle, located at some random-middle-of-nowhere park in Italy ), gave mainly strong floater air. However, once the ride hit the final bunny hops before the break run, you got a couple great pops of ejector air. That also reminds me that it's not just the shape of the hill/element that affects the amount of airtime, but also where in the train you are. Looking at Skyrider again, the last two hills gave the best ejector air in the front; however, on other rides, like Vampire at La Ronde (a BTR clone), the Zero-G gives far better airtime (if you can call it that) in the back. All in all, there's a lot of factors that come into play. Would a hill give ejector airtime if it was shaped to give 3-5 secs of floater, but crested at a speed of 70-80 MPH? Nope, that would just kill you. -

That's what I would think also; but my longest wait was for Dominator as we were leaving since it was in the front. They weren't having any hiccups in operations either. I waited an hour for Dominator and an hour Volcano (which I expected). I never expected only 10-15 min wait for I-305. Like I said, maybe I'm wrong, while it does chew up people, it does slow down some because it's only 2 across compared to most B&M that are 4 across. Except I305 has 16 rows of 2 (32 seats), and Dominator has 8 rows of 4 (32 seats), so that doesn't really matter. I think it's a combination of the ride's location, reridability, and capacity. -

TB305 replied to I love pie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Each car on a coaster train passes through any given point on the track at a speed unique to that car. So to isolate the effect of shaping - let's consider one particular car moving at some particular speed. Neglecting air resistance, a freely launched object will follow a path mapped by a curve called a parabola. Therefore, if you shape an airtime hill as a parabola, and if a car enters that parabolic section at precisely the right speed, there will precisely no force exerted to the track by the train, since it "wants" to follow this trajectory on its own. IE, it is the path that would be followed if no track existed there. This is the theoretically perfect, "floater" airtime. John Miller was the first to apply the concept to actual coaster construction when he began designing perfectly parabolic hills in the 1920s. Flattening the hill for a given entry speed means you won't reach that 0g force equilibrium; the train will still be 'pressing down" on the track and you won't feel as much floatiness. Steepening the crest with respect to entry speed has the effect of achieving negative-g, that is, the train is actually "pulling up" on the track. This transition, often quick, from positive to negative force (mathematically - a "jerk" - a changing acceleration) is often labeled "ejector" airtime. If we extend our scope outside perfectly shaped parabolic hills, ride designers can tweak the profile to achieve the exact acceleration and jerk profile they wish to. In modern times, this can involve increasing that "jerk" to the point of near discomfort. Man, I'm so happy I can understand somewhat in depth posts like this now, as I'm in AP Calculus and AP Physics currently, and we're learning about many of the concepts described here. Thanks for an in depth teaching to improve my basic knowledge of coaster physics! -

Although there were definitely some pumps and non-smooth transitions, the recreation as a whole was exceptionally well done, and your attention to detail is amazing! Great Job! -
Yup, Cedar Point itself stole your coaster This isn't exactly reasonable at this point, but it would be hilarious to see CW get the shaft in 2017 and watch the fanboys rage quit. Kings Dominion should be getting a coaster within the next 2-3 years, but it's fine by me if we don't get one in 2017 or 2018 because... well... I305... amirite?
