Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

This thread needs more Cedar Point Trash Can pr0n -
So it's been a long. LONG Winter here in Chicago.... Thinking of an inpromptu trip to SFOG next weekend... Obviously weather is a big factor, but what are crowds like this early in the season? Also, there is no Flash Pass pricing listed on the Six Flags webpage... I would assume that it's like what we have up here at SFGAm ($50/$75/$100)... Might splurge on a Flash Pass if it's crowded and see what the whole "Fast Pass" thing is all about Also, how are the hotels on the West side of town along I-20? The Days Inn out by the park is only $60/night, so considering it... Don't need a Ritz-Carlton, but want something clean and usable... Was hoping to stay under $70-80/night if possible... If we stayed closer to downtown Atlanta, how is traffic and the commute to the park?

Not only logistics, but I have to wonder what the extra cost would be.... I would think that in addition to the cars/busses/trains you would need, it would need an extra 4-5 hours of staffing outside of your normal operating hours per day... And not to mention the general stupidity of the general public that would have to be delt with... Also have to wonder how a system like this would work if you have weather involved (Storm moves in on an otherwise full Saturday... Instead of everyone going to their cars at once, they need to use the shuttle)... Overall this doesn't seem like a great idea -
Platinum. Although it's pricey, it's worth it for this park. Just be careful about your Goliath rides as in 2014 they only allowed 2 per flash pass. Thanks guys, but my dad doesn't want to spend too much money while we are there so we are just going to get the Gold Pass. Is the Gold any good? The Gold FP can be efficient... You just have to plan things out a bit... This would make Goliath a "1st thing in the AM" case since you can't use the Gold FP for it... You should also plan things out since wait times are cut in half.. Example: Bull is a 90 minute wait... Viper is 50 minutes... Call up Bull on the Flash Pass and go through the standard line on Viper... Walk off Viper then go directly to Raging Bull... Repeat that process throughout the park... As mentioned, SFGAm has several flat rides that are fun, so use them as your filler... Most won't be terrible waits, but they can be more than a 1-2 cycle wait....

Thanks so much! Any idea on what is the best day to go to the park? Typically the rule of Tuesday/Wednesday will give you the best results with Saturdays being the worst... Weather can be a big factor... Predictions of storms can keep crowds away on a given day throughout the Summer... June 3-5 and 8-12 are "Bring a Friend for Free" days for season pass holders, so that will bump crowds...

The Rise of Intamin
RaceBoarder replied to coastercrazy216's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
To be fair, Intamin seems to have pushed the limits when they designed American Eagle at SFGAm back in 1981... It held several records for more than a few years... Not bad for a first effort -
No, the calculation is very simple. If the regular queue is 60 minutes, then the platinum will tell you a 6 minute wait. You must wait until it buzzes to check-in, then you join the regular queue. Where that point is varies from ride to ride. In my experience, X-Flight had the longest wait from the check-in point, while for Goliath, the two flumes, and the rapids ride, after checking in, you were on the next train/log/raft. I got the platinum flash pass, and it was great! I reserved the next ride as soon as possible, and I only had to wait a couple of times for the flash pass to buzz. In fact, when it happened, it took me by surprise, because otherwise it was ready for me before I arrived at the next ride. So yes, it's expensive--$110 last year. But you NEED it. Without it, you will spend your entire day standing in hot queues (most of them are not covered). With it, you get to ride more, yes--but you also get to take your time and enjoy the scenery. It is a well-themed and beautiful park, not something I usually say about Six Flags, so take it in. You'll be glad you did. That's what I was questioning... Sign outside says 60 minutes... You have to wait 6 minutes till the timer buzzes... Then you have another 10-15 minute wait once you check in at the Flash Pass Entrance... Almost all of the roller coasters will merge the Flash Pass line with the regular line at the stairs heading into the station... Usually people are lined up down the stairs... It's fairly consistent among the coasters, so I didn't know if the wait time after check-in was accounted for by the pass...
-
You will have about a 10-20 minute wait once you merge with the line after the Flash Pass entrance... Does the Flash Pass account for this when you select your time? I.E. Wait time is listed at 60 minutes... Available "check in" time listed is 45-50 minutes till you can check in... Also, prices last year were $50/75/110....

Carowinds Discussion Thread
RaceBoarder replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's because hyper/giga coasters cost ridiculous amour of money, and when investing that much you want as many as possible to go on the ride. Inversions will always put people of from going on the ride. I would be honestly curious as to what the results of a survey asking this question would be like... I've always wondered what elements people found most intimidating to the GP... -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
RaceBoarder replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ok, the thing that bothers me about this, is that Millennium Force has nothing to do with the live music the park is promoting (this is a completely made up, but I have seen this type of thing happen so many times). NOTE: I am not trying to say say Millennium Force isn't a great coaster, and I'm not trying to say that Cedar Point isn't a great park, I'm just saying that people who "comment" on a post without their comment having anything to do with the post. This type of thing happens on TPR's page a lot, TPR will post an awesome POV, then people ask what the ride is called or where the ride is located when it says it IN THE POST! The Chicago Blackhawks are my favorite hockey team -

Carowinds is open March 28, 2015. Ah, thank you... That's a kick in the cherries that I'd be missing by a week... Oh well... -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
RaceBoarder replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When is opening weekend at Carowinds? Last year it was the last weekend in March, correct? Right now, I have time off scheduled of March 19-22... My plans for that weekend are based on the possibility of my alma-mater's hockey team making their conference tournament finals.. If that falls through, I'm wondering if Carowinds and Fury would be an option for that weekend... -
Back in August I was waiting for Raging Bull... We're about 1/3 of the way through the 2nd set of covered switchbacks as group of about 6-8 people are just entering the switchbacks... After some talk amongst their group, they decided to send a stuffed Superman that they won at a game crowd surfing... For the next 20 minutes, Supes was crowd surfing throughout the switchbacks... It became a game to try and get him stuck up in the rafters/lights or to see how far you could throw him... After a while there was a stuffed Tweety and a ball getting thrown around too... Everyone in the crowd was into this... No one would bitch about getting hit and everyone would chuck the things when they came to them... Got to see two groups of teens try and spike the ball into each other's faces for a bit also... This was one of those "spur of the moment" type things that was a total blast... Best 30 minutes I have ever had in line...

Six Flags question

They seem to have very favorable reactions to their RMC additions recently... I'm sure that is the horse they are betting on in the short term at least... -

Just climb over... What could possibly go wrong with that -
I think it's a good policy to have in place for Goliath and Raging Bull... It's very inexpensive and acts as a very visual deterrent to line jumping... I don't think it would ruin someone's day if something went wrong either... I had an indecent happen in front of me back in June and the staff was very professional and quick in getting things figured out... As we were walking up to Goliath, we had a group of 12-15 people get in line just ahead of us... They all knew each other and were obviously from the same group... Over the course of the 1:15 in line (Line was only 1:15-1:30 most of this day due to heavy rain everywhere in Chicago except Six Flags), the group would just mingle and talk amongst themselves... By the time they got to the ticket taker at the stairs, the first two kids in the group were the last ones to get the passes... The staff member confronted them about this, but was very professional... She was quick to realize no one was upset over this and figured out that they were all one group... A couple of quick questions got them back in order and everything was back moving in just a few moments... Just curious, what happens at other parks with line jumping? Do people sneak into the que in the middle of the line? Do you have people who just walk through the line and no one says anything? I've honestly never seen anything that made me upset or want to bring the hammer down on someone in my visits to SFGAm... (Well other than a fat, obnoxious 15/16 year old throwing a temper tantrum because Raging Bull was delayed 30 minutes in opening one morning... We were lined up in the walkway since the que wasn't open for business yet and the kid went over to ride Giant Drop while his mother and other kids in their group stayed in RB's line... Before he left and after he returned all he did was bitch and moan about everything under the sun regarding Six Flags and RB... Most of the people around this kid wanted to deck him... I thought about bringing up the fact that he had left the line and needed to go to the back, but passed because I don't need to be arguing with a teen and/or his family...)
