Park Discussion Thread Directory
SFOG1991 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's fine if you do. And then if we feel there is enough for a discussion thread we will merge them all together. That's what I will do then. I simply wanted to point it out since this thread is for discussion thread requests. It just feels weird making a thread for anything that isn't major but that's because I'm accustomed to using the discussion threads and I don't want to make a thread to say a random ride at the park received new paint or something. Anyways, thanks! -
Dollywood Discussion Thread

Just a matter of opinion, and I think enthusiasts lean towards ejector because we are seasoned riders and become desensitized to the experience and seek higher intensity. I personally love ejector and find most floater to leave me wanting more. Skyrush is amazing to me while most B&M hypers don't impress me with their airtime with Goliath at SFOG being the exception (and still leaving me wanting more powerful airtime). -

This! I am dying for a POV... -
In terms of coasters I missed that I'll now never be able to ride because they/the park are defunct.... Ghost Town In The Sky - Cliffhanger: Reopened the week before my visit for the first time in years and then closed down the day before I went due to a crack in the train body and never reopened again. Dania Beach Hurricane: I was young and we were leaving Miami and drove right past it running with only a few people on it but I was younger and my family wouldn't let me stop for 5 minutes to ride. Williams Grove - Cyclone: Closed down the year before my trip to Hershey. Was planning to go... AstroWorld: The entire park closed when it was on my Texas trip itinerary for the next season Luckily I did get Geauga Lake before its demise.

Just checked it out! So glad to finally have some insight into wait times when trying to decide whether or not I want to go to my local park. Thanks!

La Ronde Discussion Thread
SFOG1991 replied to Skyscraper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have not been to La Ronde personally but based on the other VR coasters in the chain I would assume you stand in the same line and just request to not use VR. I would definitely go there first thing because VR really slows down the boarding process and the ride capacity plummets. -

I assume it isn't just open to everyone based on that picture. I wonder how those people got to ride! Jealous. -
Lol at "turn it into". I was waiting for that one lol. Honestly it's definitely hit and miss but my last visit to the park it was really busy and the line for Blue Streak was pushing 30 minutes. I was surprised but the park really does light up when it's full of people. It's a bit depressing on days when you are one of only 5 people in the park though. What is essentially private ERT on Blue Streak makes up for it.

Is there any way to do this on an iPhone?

Carowinds Discussion Thread
SFOG1991 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've had many poor experiences at Harmony Hall as well. In terms of wait times, service, and food quality. It took nearly 30 minutes to get food when there was only a few people in line, when I ordered something clearly shown on the menu none of the employees had any idea they even served it and gave me the wrong thing twice, then at check out I was charged incorrectly. The only good thing about the poor service is they accidentally gave me a full refund and forgot to charge me the right amount and you can steal drinks for free because no one is paying any attention or knows what they are doing. -
Thanks for the review! I'm assuming it'll be better (in terms of forces and overall experience) than every B&M hyper in the U.S. except for maybe Goliath because it's been the by far standout of B&M hypers for me personally. I can't wait to ride it and see how it stacks up but based on this review it sounds solid and above average for B&M!

New Coaster for Camden Park
SFOG1991 replied to John Peck's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm planning on finally getting to Camden Park in a few weeks hopefully and this is just the best out of no where news! -
I believe Ghost Lake utilizes it for one of their 13 haunts. The inside is still decorated and works well with the event. It never made sense to me for the park to have an attraction with live scare actors. The last thing they needed was to add multiple people to their payroll for one minor attraction.

That would be awesome. I'm probably not going this weekend but was considering going tomorrow. Have you been to White Water or do you have a combo pass? It's a solid water park but like Six Flags, gets ridiculously busy. I'm considering going there tomorrow. I can't wait until Hurricane Harbor gets expanded a bit because right now it's just always so crowded. A few high capacity slides would be awesome.

I find fly-o-plane super easy to flip endlessly. After a few rocks you just hold the wheel to the side and spin endlessly with no effort. Much easier than snapping flyers, so if you can do that, you'll be fine. It's easy but the spinning is definitely intense on the body. I love it though and haven't experienced a more intense flat other than maybe a Mondial Top Scan I rode at a fair.

So it's working for Cedar Fair parks (that offer in app wait times) already? I checked out your website and it appears to be working. Really easy to use. If this works for Six Flags it'll change my world in terms of deciding whether or not to go to my local park on any given day.
-
If you can find a way to get Six Flags wait times which are not accessible on their app unless you are located in the park to show from any location I would be so on board!!! That would be a dream come true.

Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
SFOG1991 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Honestly I think all parks should have and use metal detectors. A person's life and safety is worth it. I know parks aren't historically targets for terrorism or gun violence, but the fact that without metal detectors anyone can bring a gun into a park is scary. Look at Universal with the guy who was clearly mentally suffering who went in and offed himself in front of a bunch of people. Carowinds rarely even bag checks consistently and someone could literally wheel a bomb into the place. It just seems like poor safety judgment and even if something major hasn't happened yet, there is always a first. Now what drives me crazy are the parks that have metal detectors and don't have employees trained to move people through them quickly. At some parks it causes a really bad backup and at others it isn't even an issue. -
I ride them all the time and they are generally very easy to spin. Basically just rock back and forth by turning the wheel left and right, alternating direction each time you reach a max tilt. It only takes about 15 seconds to go into a spin, at which point you just hold the wheel as hard left or right as you can (depending which way you are spinning) and you will just spiral out of control at a fast speed for the entire ride cycle. It's very intense and there isn't much padding inside the planes. The way you spin the cloth seatbelt will rub your waist area kind of hard and you may hit your head on the ceiling of the plane. I always like to ride it in the fall because the extra layers of clothing and a hoodie help for repeat rides but really it doesn't hurt, it just will wear on you after a while. Some of the planes spin a bit better than others and if you ask the ride op they often provide pointers on which plane to take. I never notice a huge difference though. If you want any other advice related to the park, let me know. I go a lot and there really are a lot of awesome things about Lake Winnie. It's basically a mini Knoebels South.

^Thanks y'all. I'm sure it is basically foolproof but I like to know why something is as ridiculously safe as it is. -

I really want to know the answer to this as well.
