I realize they had a lot more to remove before construction could start but Great Adventure was tearing down the grandstand and Ft Independence/Aqua Stadium really early in the season last year for the freespin. Not saying SFOG is getting one but by July 6th last year fences were going up before demolition started. Interesting. Like I said, it just seems early especially here in the south but I guess it's not that out of the ordinary. Time will tell!

I'm pretty sure around where skyscreamer is is where they can build the highest. I agree. Sky Screamer is over the 200 foot restriction because that restriction is based on the highest point in the park. Sky Screamer is located at the lowest point in the park, so I guess we could see a coaster as tall as Sky Screamer in that area. I know Sky Screamer is said to be 242 feet tall but I thought they had overshot the height restriction when the ride was announced and had to change plans to have it at 227 feet . Does anyone recall the true height?

SFMM cleared land for their rumored JL months ago, Gradv as well. I think Six Flags plans for 2017 were just finalized so maybe SFOG was in limbo as to what their plans were. Ahh good point. It still seems really early, especially for a park in the south with no real winter. Anyways, Justice League is a great choice and a coaster would just be an even better surprise so I'm happy regardless.

There is a chance they could get the height restriction changed or possibly raised for that end of the park (other parks have varying height restrictions that are more strict on the side closest to the airport and less strict as the distance increases). I do hope that happens one day (or the airport closes down LOL) so we can see something in the 300 foot range built at the park.

Regarding some of the comments on the last two pages... Six Flags Over Georgia can not build over 200 feet due to the airport nearby. Additionally, it seems they have quite the uphill battle when trying to get approval for tall attractions. As for competition with Dollywood and Carowinds, there is some competition I am sure, but it is very minimal. Dollywood caters to a different crowd overall, and in all honesty most people who go to Six Flags Over Georgia don't know what Carowinds is. I'm sure there is some level of competition for customers that live between Atlanta and Charlotte NC or between Atlanta and Knoxville TN, but the vast majority of SFOG customers are from the Atlanta metro or nearby. There is some traffic from outlying areas, western GA, and Alabama as well. If you go to the park and walk the parking lot looking at license plate counties, you can see this pretty quickly. The Atlanta metropolitan area has nearly 6 million people. That's a huge market for the park to pull from and doesn't even include many counties that frequent the park. I think it is in the best interest of the park to expand their offerings to become a 2 day park for the people that are traveling from Alabama and rural parts of Georgia. That is exactly what additions like Hurricane Harbor do. They should really look into offering a 2 day ticket and further partnering with the hotels by the park in my opinion.

They would need to demolish an entire building which is surprisingly large, remove a bunch of trees behind it and possibly divert an access road before starting construction on the new building. It seems like a fair amount of work to me. Wouldn't they just renovate and expand the current building? Either way, I'm glad they are working so early, but I can't imagine it taking almost a year to install.

How Often Do You Go To Your Local Park?
SFOG1991 replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Do you work at the park? Otherwise that seems kind of insane. *sitting at work wishing I was at my local park* -
The park has basically confirmed on Twitter that the ride is closing today. They have two posts that suggest it and then retweeted one that basically confirms it will close down for good today. Such a strange sudden way to close a ride, but I don't mind too much. If it was any other ride I would be ditching work and making the trek down to the park to get my last rides in.

The park could turn Joker Funhouse Trains backwards and that would be a bigger thing than what you guys got for your 40th (Banners?) Truth. Although the park president has already claimed that big anniversaries come with big presents and we should expect something big. Of course, they would count something like Justice League as big. People are quick to mistake the word "big" with the word "coaster"

^I'm big on nostalgia and preservation, so I am right there with you. Honestly, I wish Wheelie stayed and Sky Screamer was build on the other side of the midway somewhere along the lake. As for Battle for Metropolis, they could actually build it so the entrance is inside of Metropolis Park. I hope they do that and don't sacrifice Cotton States Expo. I am still mad that when they built Sky Screamer and shortened the length of the ivy tunnel, the took down the Cotton States Exposition entrance sign and never bothered to put it back. It's like the park is trying to remove all the themed areas, when they could keep them without really investing much at all. I mean, they already had the sign.... (look I'm already ranting like a cranky person too)

^I agree, it makes obvious sense to just clone them, but it would be so nice (for enthusiasts anyways) if the parks did more to maintain their unique qualities. I can't argue with the economics behind it, especially considering the vast majority of customers will not know it's a clone, but it's still disappointing as an enthusiast to see too much copy and paste among the chain. Don't get me wrong, I will love having a Battle for Metropolis if that's what we get, I just wish it was unique and wasn't at the cost of whatever thrill ride or coaster we could be getting instead.
-
I hope they make the entrance to the ride inside Metropolis Park, although being right beside the big sign entrance to that area is fine too. I just don't want them messing with Cotton States Exposition because it looks really nice as is. They already invaded on that space enough with Hurricane Harbor.

^I agree it almost HAS to be Justice League. It's a great choice but I would still prefer a Zamperla Giant Discovery. Best flat ride I've been on possibly. I just don't see them using that location for such a ride, plus the park has invested in two thrilling flats in recent history (Sky Screamer and Joker Chaos Not Coaster) and with the number of flat rides they've installed recently I just don't think that's their first choice.
-
Out of all the rides to be removed, this is probably the one I'm most ok with. I really was hoping for a coaster or an epic flat but honestly I see this pointing towards Battle for Metropolis. The placement is good (right beside the Metropolis Park section of the park) and that is a decently large building that I imagine they could expand on the back end. It's also connected to some additional building space on the left side isn't it?

^Thanks! Everything is there now. I think I noticed that with some other parks as well, but I don't recall which ones.

I'll check it out. Its very possible I missed one. Most of the initial data for that was entered manually via a combination of Wikipedia and the parks websites. Let me know which ones specifically you have noticed and I'll add them. Even if the park doesn't report the times users can still submit them manually (although this method hasn't seen much use yet ) Goliath Batman The Ride Superman Ultimate Flight Major non-coaster rides: Monster Mansion Sky Screamer Joker Chaos Coaster (I wouldn't mind seeing rides like Thunder River in there too if that data is reported by the park. I assume most rides are reported) Regardless, the coasters that are shown provide enough insight to judge the crowd, but I appreciate the effort to include all major rides!
-
I didn't realize trees were already marked! I need to take a look during my next visit. I hope they don't remove too many trees. The park is so nice with all its full grown trees and the park has taken a lot of foliage out recently. It's unfortunate. The entry to Bugs Bunny Boomtown desperately needs some actual trees in and around it.

I would love to be able to give inputs on dates/weather/etc to get a line estimate! CoasterQueue.com has been a lifesaver for me. I noticed all the rides at SFOG said 5 minutes on Sunday (shockingly not busy) and I went to the park and enjoyed walk ons throughout the park! One question, why is Goliath not coming up for SFOG on the site? I would find it hard to believe that the park doesn't report its line. It seems like a few coasters are missing.

Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
SFOG1991 replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The Boss was a pretty awesome coaster in my opinion. I'm a fan. I usually don't get the hate for a lot of coasters though. I'm also a huge fan of Vortex at Kings Island so... -
I mostly agree with this, but it is much cheaper to develop flat areas, existing infrastructure, etc. SFOG has a lot of space and if you look at their past additions, for Hurricane Harbor they literally expanded on the amphitheater foundation to make a wave pool, for Sky Screamer they used Wheelie's foundation and line, and they plopped the new rides for Gotham on top of existing pavement. I would think they would use existing structures and flat spaces around the park before spending a lot more to cram something in on difficult undeveloped terrain. Although the area behind Splashwater Falls and Dodge City Bumper Cars might not be too hard to work with.
-
I would be extremely disappointed if the park removed Mind Bender, Great American Scream Machine or Monster Mansion. I really don't see that happening and I feel like the park would get a lot of backlash for it too. Hopefully Dahlonega Mine Train will stay as well. As much as I would hate to see Sky Buckets go, I could see them using the area behind it and simply deciding to remove Sky Buckets too just because of operation costs (even though they don't need the small space it sits on). They would basically be using the new addition as an excuse to remove a costly ride. I am still hoping for Splashwater Falls as I find it to be an eyesore and not a huge loss (even though it has quite the history in the park). The only bummer about this is it means we would be getting an S&S Free Spin, which is fine, I would just prefer something unique, longer, and with the capacity our park desperately needs. Maybe we could luck out and get something like Full Throttle or even a Zamperla Giant Discovery though.
