Six Flags [FUN] Corporate Discussion Thread
coreyb replied to davidmorton's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't really know. My point is really just to say that "competition is good for consumers" isn't universally true; the truth is more subtle. -

Competition makes better results up to a point; definitely in new industries. However, there gets to be a point where all the innovations have happened, and then competition becomes solely about cutting costs. (Removing features that they think won't get noticed -paying employee less than competitors...) The Autopiam had an article about the feature removing bit: https://www.theautopian.com/why-you-maybe-shouldnt-buy-a-first-model-year-car-or-a-final-model-year-car/ -

Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
coreyb replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It looks like it'll be in Fireman's Landing, across the park from the original. So more of a reboot than a re-build. Some of that $30 million could be for whatever they put in the old location. Which if I remember right, is right next to the area that's been fenced off the last couple years, so it could be pretty big. -

I want to say the current carousel location (not building) was one end of the skyride. -

When they first moved, the carousel was in the entrance building where the carousel-themed gift shop is now. -
Legoland Florida Discussion Thread

I hope they rehab the displays along with the shade - many of the bricks are discolored and cracked from being in the Florida weather for 10 years. -
^^ I was there in June, and at that time, that's what all the seating was like. It was at least 3 of the same 4 food stations as in these photos, so I guess they've had a long soft-open - nothing indicated it was new or still in previews. The tables are bolted to the floor, and with the high exposed ceilings and hard floors, the noise really reverberates. The food was better than we'd been expecting.

I'm sure the wait in line before going into the maze "primes the pump" as it were. -

MackManiac - Worlds first loop for karts
coreyb replied to Taron's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This seems to be a different company from Mack Rides. -
I rode Hellcat yesterday and nothing looked too new. It was bouncy, but not jackhammery. Maybe a little rougher than Thunderhead. Certainly better than Zeus, which is the only coaster I've been on that I felt like I might die on. Not from falling off, just that my spine would get so rattled it would just give up.

What rides have you ridden in their debut season?
coreyb replied to Olsor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I thought Lightning Rod was the only one, but after looking through my list, apparently I rode Python at SFA (Wild World at the time) in its first season there, 1993. Wouldn't have guessed it was a first season since there were closed rows with duct tape holding the OSTRs down. -

Harvest Festival: Barton Orchards & Fun Park

The inside isn't ribbed (for your pleasure ), so it's actually fairly smooth; just slightly washboarded. The places I've gone on them had carpet remnants for mats. -
Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
coreyb replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If Mount Olympus's Manticore hasn't tipped over yet, then a star flyer at Valleyfair should have very little maintenance-related downtime. -
The day after marathoning Expedition Everest with them, I dragged 4 teenagers I was chaperoning on the Barnstormer so that we could say we rode all 5 MK coasters in one day. As they pointed out, we were the only group without a small child.
