  1. I'll be there Monday, July 11th and I'm also curious about how lines are weekdays in the summer. I know these types of posts are always super annoying but I really have no idea. We'll have around 6-8 hours in the park and plan on all the coasters, dark rides and maybe a couple flats--are we looking 15-30 minute waits for marquee rides midday or longer? As for the line skipping option (don't remember the name but not the unlimited more expensive one), I assume this is one ride each and only the front/back option lets you choose a seat? If that's the case we might skip that. Any help is appreciated because I have really no idea how busy Kennywood gets.
  2. I get nostalgic at Great Adventure on occasion just having flashbacks as a young chil with my grandparents taking me to the park and riding the Mine Train. Most people don't consider Great Adventure to be one of those "special" parks like Knoebels but because I've been visiting for years (through my childhood/early adulthood) Just walking across the bridge from El Toro to Bizarro by the pond and just random little aspects of the park make me smile and experience those fond memories I have as a child. Oh and playing Roller Coaster Tycoon's Great Adventure scenario way too much when I was younger probably adds to that as I would always dream of the next time I'd get to go to the park and walk around the place I had fallen in love with on my clunky desktop back then... I think for me this thread mostly makes me think of little reminders of childhood or things today that make me feel like a child. Driving across the Cedar Point causeway does this too, for example. There's no ride that can make you feel this way, it's a setting. An atmosphere. An experience.
  3. I don't see any Six Flags park building a coaster ground up with any sort of respectable length, especially not anywhere near Fury's length in the near future. For me at least a ride has to be fairly long in duration (not specifically feet of track) to be in upper echelon of rides except for maybe some of the shorter RMC's that looks ridiculous (though those are mostly I-box that are shorter... Except Goliath which kinda proves my point).
  4. Not even somewhat relevant but I like the nickname
  5. Intimidator 305 also varies greatly in perceived speed throughout the course of a day. It's probably only a couple mph difference (if that) but because of the nature of the tight transitions when the wheels are warmed up especially late afternoon/night the ride seems much more out of control compared to the first few hours of operation in a day. The best thing I can compare it to is the difference in speed El Toro takes its twister section when it's running fast in the evening. It seems like a major difference because of the nature of the ride but in reality it doesn't take much to seem like you're flying.
  6. I haven't ridden Titan so my opinion probably isn't valid or justified in any way but it's important to understand the difference between a bad ride and wasted potential. Titan could be a great ride, but because it doesn't do anything special with its height it seems bad, but in reality it's just a lot of wasted potential. Unlike say an SLC or Apocalypse (SFA) where the ride was never expected to be decent but it's complete sh*t and physically painful/harmful. Titan, to my understanding, isn't painful to take one ride on. Just my $.02.
  7. "Fabulous" makes me think family coaster. Which isn't a bad thing. I wouldn't be surprised if this coaster is planned for the old dragster pad. Sorry but how do you make that conclusion? Ed Hart is an interesting character. I've watched several interviews of him because I'm a nerd and I could totally see him using a word like "fabulous" to describe almost any decent roller coaster. Don't ask why because I have basically no way to prove that but he's just got strong New Yoker/New Jersey vibes going, like the type of person that says "wonderful" in every third sentence. Basically I wouldn't rule out any coaster type at this point. It's late so don't question my likely flawed logic, lol.
  8. It's actually hard to have a bad time at Great Adventure. You have to be actively trying to not enjoy yourself. There is always some stupidity and occasional line jumping but if you don't let it bother you you'll enjoy the park. The operations otherwise (excluding Kingda Ka and Bizarro) are pretty solid and the ride selection is top notch.
  9. No, but there is a separate gold pass queue at the gates that may or may not get you towards the front of the mass of people at the fountain before rope drop. They're supposed to allow gold passholders through to enter a queue 10 or 15 minutes before official opening but you have to jam your way through the mass of stubborn sweaty people (note: from Jersey) to the staff guarding the rope to show your gold pass if they're bothering to let anyone through. It's basically a sh!tshow. Good luck. At least this is how it worked for me in 2015 so idk if they've changed policies or their mood since then. You really never know with this park.
  10. Adding to the Dorney hype (which actually just sounds a little "off" to say), if I didn't have a platinum pass there's no way I'd consider driving four hours instead of Hershey or Knoebels but for free admission I couldn't pass it up. It doesn't excite me as much as the bigger parks in the region but for what it is, I'm actually really looking forward to visiting.
  11. Off topic but I just got an email for a $39.99 gold pass for SFA so I'll just make the quick drive to process at some point before Gadv. I wasn't going to pay $100 for a gold pass after going to Platinum passes this year but it's impossible to pass up $40 gold passes so looks like I'll be riding El Toro this summer after all, lol.
  12. It was an interview from Storm Chaser media day with Ed Hart from a site not supported on TPR. Ed stated he is in discussions with RMC for another coaster in the future, but left out any details (understandably).
  13. Im still a fan of Flight of Fear. The first half up through the mid course is totally awesome and way more powerful than Jokers Jinx. Being indoors is definitely a big plus for the majority of the ride. I think if the mid course was at least relaxed a little bit it would blow Jokers Jinx away. The second half, until the ride settles on ground level before the corkscrew, has some awkward over-banking for how slow the train is going after the complete stop. I agree though, an underrated coaster that could be really, really good. I ride it every visit.
  14. I haven't read through everything in this thread but as great as Kings Dominion is (I frequent that park) and I really do enjoy the park you're going to get bored with two days. Other than Volcano you won't wait more than 20 minutes for anything ever and there's really only about three to five coasters worth re-riding. You can do the park in a half day and use the next several hours for re-rides and to enjoy the atmosphere but after that you're way better off at Knoebels assuming Bill isn't crazy as I haven't actually been myself.
  15. Or the other way around. That doesn't even make sense. Don't get all uppity just because I call you out on your endless barrage of asinine posts. Relax, have some fun. No need to take anything personally, it's a theme park forum. The wording of this made me laugh really hard for some reason. It wasn't even supposed to be funny but I'll put the reply to this thread back in the thread itself. And ^
  16. I think a smaller one would work great! Give the tower a brown paint scheme, theme the heck out of it and it would be a winner! You guys are missing the point of SDC. This is not a Six Flags or Cedar Fair park. Would you ask if Disneyland was going to add a starflyer? No you wouldn't. Use the same thinking when asking "Would SDC add..." here because that's usually the same case Okay... would Disneyland build the world's only wood coaster with inversions? I guess by your logic they would.
  17. Just got back from the park after an afternoon/late night visit with my riding buddy of sorts. We arrived around 4:30 and started with a quick meal since we were hungry and to get some use out of the dining plan. After a 'meh' chef salad we started with Delirium as he hadn't ridden yet this year, then continued with a walk-on to Grizzly and on to the rest of the park. Some miscellaneous thoughts... --Delirium is a really fun ride and even better at night. The entire park has a nice atmosphere at nighth that I really dig. --Grizzly sucks. I know this ride has its following but after the first drop its just too jarring for my taste (I know some say this adds to the ride but I call BS) and nothing really redeeming that warrants riding every visit. --Backlot surprises me every time. Really enjoy this little ride. --Flight of Fear isn't really "rough" but it's not as smooth as Joker's Jinx up at SFA and for how disorienting it is this takes away from the experience. Also the midcourse blows. --Volcano goes down for weather and other operational stuff way too often. It's my third favorite in the park so I always ride it (front row this time) but it went down 30 minutes for someone spotting lightning after sending one train of riders after ending down all day until 6. --Dominator was running really well today. A definite second favorite in the park and a really solid B&M overall, especially in the back. --Woodstock Express is my favorite wood coaster at Kings Dominion. Haters gonna hate but everything else sucks, including Rebel Yell which we didn't bother riding this time. --We ended the day with a nighttime ERT of sorts on Intimidator 305 from 9 to 10. We rode the back every ride except the front once (only a three train wait at 9:45) and wow, holy crap. This ride is crazy intense in the back and was running really fast at night. After tonight I would say it's solidly my number two behind El Toro but in three weeks I could easily say it's my number four after revisiting Cedar Point. I'll just say it's a top five ride for sure. --Maybe I haven't had enough good barbecue but I'm going to Country Kitchen every visit now. Wow the pulled chicken sandwich with baked beans, cole slaw and corn is by far the best food I've had at a corporate amusement park. Everyone needs to go there when you visit Kings Dominion and even though it would be expensive without the dining plan it's a lot of food and very filling. Can't say enough about that meal. Ride count Delirium 2x Grizzly 1x Backlot 1x Avalanche 1x Volcano 1x Woodstock Express 1x ( ) Flight of Fear 1x Dominator 2x Intimidator 305 7x Can't complain about these crowds Crazy fast. Crazy intense. Down all day until around 6. Got there right in time to watch one train launch and then go down for "weather," but operational after another 30 minutes. Fun in the front row, but I'm not a huge fan of the heartline rolls which is essentially half the ride. Definitely prefer traditional inverts but still a fun ride with a good couple of launches. I guess this is kinda cool? It's a quirky thing about the park but it seems nobody actually cares about these for how much people seemed to love the idea when they were announced. Night rides? Don't mind if I do! The line at 9:45 before our 7th ride. Thanks for a great day Kings Dominion!
  18. Wha??? Who is saying Storm Chaser is the worst RMC? I haven't seen anybody say that yet, while I have seen Goliath consistently in that position. Storm Chaser is absolutely nuts, and a Top 5 coaster for me! If that's really the worst (or even second-worst) RMC, then once I get on all of the RMC's my Top 10 is going to look almost entirely different! No one said it was a bad coaster but compared to New Texas Giant and Lightning Rod apparently it isn't as good. These comments were mostly through Youtube videos. Personally I have only ridden Goliath so I can't say for sure. Yeah... avoid youtube comments. I know opinions can't technically be wrong but there's always an exception to any rule.
  19. If a park has a salad or wrap or some kind of relatively healthy (however crappy/low quality it may be) option instead of the chicken fingers/burger/pizza dripping with grease I'll go for it. You'll feel better about yourself and won't have any concerns about vomiting after a quick turnaround back to rides. The fried park crap food tastes pretty bad in the first place so what's the upside? As for drinks I've gotten the unlimited drink cup at Six Flags/Cedar Fair parks the last few years I've had passes and I'll alternate between Powerade, lemonade/iced tea and water. The sugary drinks aren't too great for you but as long as you're not constantly chugging gallons of it you're really fine. It's about the overall lifestyle, not a few days of the year with excess sugar. Soda makes me feel awful so o don't bother with it and it's far worse for you than sugary iced tea or Powerade. If a park has remarkable or unique food that you'd feel like you missed out on by skipping, go for it. Just limit the amount and don't make it a lifestyle. If I'm at a generic corporate park with nothing special about the food I'll stick to healthier options because if the food is mediocre to begin with what's the point of wasting a "cheat" meal on something crappy?
  20. I haven't had quite as many laps (probably somewhere around 25-30 overall) but the last couple of years that I've had more rides I almost always go for the back and I often end up on the right side. Maybe I just generally prefer the back on most coasters but It hasn't disappointed on Nitro.
  21. ^Some billboards in Wild One's queue at SFA claim the ride reaches 60mph after a reprofile to increase the first drop length but the ride physically isn't tall enough to reach such speeds. Something I've learned is that most people have a very poor understanding of basic physics but even more important is that it doesn't really matter and there's no reason to correct anyone.
  22. ^Of the season or overall? That would be ridiculously impressive for the season but a little less than I expected overall.
  23. Damn I wish I could get to Carowinds this year.
  24. Six Flags entire ad campaign is based around the word "Big". At first I chuckled but after thinking for a few seconds I realized this is entirely true.
  25. What's the point of taking the videos anyway? Assuming nobody finds you in the action of breaking park rules risking being ejected from the park potentially for life, you also risk losing the camera and risking your and others' safety. In the end, if everything goes perfectly, you end up with a really, really crappy POV that you could find on YouTube done by professionals. We all know what these roller coasters do, no need to film them to prove you ride them all.
