When does an element become an inversion?
Password121 replied to Marney's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As long as the car passes the 135 degree angle then it is an inversion. I really don't get how this can be so confusing. It's not confusion now that you've cleared it up, I just disagree with your definition. Who decided that was the magic number? I don't think it's about anyone "deciding" anything, it's just exactly the point where the rider is closer to inverted than horizontal. It's as if someone said "Ehh maybe 150 degrees because that seems like pretty upside down," it's backed up my an actual mathematical reason. -

Kings Dominion didn't get any past rides. Really the only addition in 2014 was the singing mushrooms. Everything else was food/landscaping/etc. And screwing around with Volcano's queue and station that made no difference at all. -
When does an element become an inversion?

I really hope this is a joke because this is probably the most ignorant post I've seen in at least a month I find many of the responses in this thread more ignorant than his post. Unless you change the definition of invert, it is the point at which you go upside down and as BDG graphically illustrated, 180 degrees. My post was a little sarcastic (hence the ) but by saying "upside down" there's inherently a discrepancy in meaning, which is the entire point of this thread. Repeating the purpose of the thread as the answer, then insulting the OP for no reason whatsoever, I think is a little condescending. But otherwise yes I agree, there are a lot more ignorant posts than this one. -

Usually through the front entrance. The drop tower is worth a ride, maybe the flyers, Fireball, or the cow-themed breakdance in Coyote Creek. That thing is a little too much fun. Really whatever looks interesting to you. Crowds? You mean like other people showing up? Do you know what park this is? lol I think in the last 4+ years of going to this park I've seen about 7 flash pass users ever, and it usually adds to the wait because the standby line isn't even at the merge point. Just go, relax, and have fun. Crowds are a non-issue at this park outside of July Saturdays and Fright Fest nights.

Came to post exactly this but you've got it. Exactly halfway between sideways and completely inverted. Outlaw Run's first turn (153 degrees) is an inversion, but Millennium Force's first turn (122 degrees) is not. If you watch some '99 MF promos (which are so worth watching on repeat) you'll see it claim a world record as the "steepest non-inverted turn." They had that down 17 years ago. Edit... I don't mean to nerd out too much as coasterbill was mentioning but this would classify Fury's 91 degree overbanked turnaround as an inversion since technically the plane you sit on is beyond horizontal. I don't think anyone's out there arguing this is an inversion, so I'd disagree with this. -

@coasterbill that was a great read. I had no idea they had done such an extensive refurb. Great to see the park reinvest in such a great ride so heavily. Thanks for that. -

^Oh absolutely I waited about five times longer for Shenandoah Lumber Co. at Kings Dominion in March on opening day than I did for two rides on Intimidator. People love flumes. -

Because those two things are entirely unrelated and it's up to Cedar Fair's best discretion (which is better than yours and mine and everyone on this site) what will get them the best return on investment. And no, the state of Ohio is not "stealing" Canada's Wonderland's new coasters. -

I'm with you on this. I'll be at Kings Island for a day and half in the peak of summer and I know that Great Adventure's flume is extremely popular that time of year. I imagine Kings Island's flume, even sorta being in the kiddie area, isn't much different. -

Falling trees --> fall of the log ride? -
Regarding Fury with no Mid course, that's true but what I was referring to specifically was how even with a trim on the hill it's still taken at a pretty good clip. Obviously the second half of this ride will be nothing like this POV but up until that point I don't see any real reason why this would be drastically different that Fury in terms of pacing/how it compares to the first test. Emphasis on drastically. I'm sure the trim will engage a little but does Fury's trim kill everything afterwards?
-
^Fury seemed fast from the initial tests but never really slowed down, did it? It also has a trim on its largest airtime hill, but most people seem to think even that hill has a little more air than the older, traditional B&M hypers like Nitro. It's also fascinating to look at the shaping of hear hills. The first airtime hill (with no trim) looks peaked like Diamondback's hills, but the following hill with the trim looks shallower but faster, like Fury's largest airtime hill. Curious to see how it rides in the end, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Maybe because up to this point (that we know of) all testing has taken place AFTER normal operating hours. ...what? If there is a reason I assume it's to avoid negative publicity if the launch isn't at 100% just yet. Someone sees a rollback, it spreads across social media and everyone says it's "dangerous," etc etc. If it's getting close to opening I don't imagine they'd hold back on when they test at all though, they want it to open as quickly as we want it to. -
Yeah at one point I was seriously considering adding Kentucky Kingdom on to my Kings Island/Cedar Point trip this summer but I decided on Kennywood. When I saw this offer I *almost* tried to see if I could squeeze in a day and a half at the park but unfortunately it's not possible. The people that go for this ticket won't be back all too often if they're not enthusiasts getting a season pass from out of state, so it's safe to assume this won't be that many people and they'll be paying their way through anyways with parking and food. There's really no way the park loses out too much with this one. I think it's a good idea.

^^Exactly. This was from Triple XXX near Purdue University, a restaurant featured in Diners, Drive ins and Dives. Not exactly park food. But with that said I don't k ow how hard it is to screw up (and I'd have more faith in Holiday World than a lot of parks), so it's definitely worth a try. -

^I was on the same boat until I tried one. If peanut butter's your thing it's orgasmic. Seriously it's amazing (if done correctly, of course. The one I had was top notch though). -
Got it! Thanks Edit: Oh darn! I put myself as "interested" but if it does end up being August 16th I can't make it. Leaving for college the 15th. Wait a minute. Are you going to let a little thing like college stop you from the marathon ride? Lol,..get your priorities straight. Which year? Freshman, Softmore, etc? I know, I know It's my Freshman year. Watch out, we got an old man making his way through here lol

That hump was on the 2015 map as well. Map renderings aren't meant to be layout descriptions, they're just meant for helping you get to the coaster. Only a few enthusiasts notice/care about minute details like that.
