Dollywood Discussion Thread
Hilltopper39 replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks' I couldn't find that on the website but it's exactly what I was looking for. For some reason I was thinking the limits were closer to 40 or 45 degrees so taking a trip in late December felt kind of risky, but with temps that low it feels like a pretty safe bet that most things will be open during the day. -
Dollywood Discussion Thread

Does anyone know or know where to look up the temperature guidelines for the rides at Dollywood to operate during the colder weather like in November and December. Seems like I remember that being a discussion topic in the past but I scrolled back a few years in the thread and couldn't find anything. We're thinking about a trip around Christmas but wasn't sure if it was worth it with the weather that time of year being a little unpredictable. Has anyone been around Christmas to know what the crowds are like? -
The "parking lot" coaster criticism of Kraken is fair as it really is mostly backstage but that thing still rides great for me. Seems like I've read several recent reports of it being rough, or underwhelming, but every time I've been on it recently (couple of trips this past month) it's been great every time. I still love that ride.

We've been rotating Orlando park passes for a couple years now (Disney one year, SeaWorld/Busch Gardens a year, Universal a year etc.). Disney is supposed to be next up in the rotation but I might push it back a year and wait for Tron and Guardians to open, maybe go with Universal in 2022. I can probably do a 4 day resident Ticket in January and a pass to Universal for less than the Disney pass, which is a pretty decent option for us.

Seems pretty reasonable to me, I was expecting the blackout dates to be worse than they are based on the California passes but they're not that bad really. The $700 pirate pass is only blocked out Christmas for 2 weeks, a couple weeks in March & April for spring break, and couple other days here and there around Holidays. Photopass being a $100 add on is a little disappointing, it's not a deal breaker or anything but just another one of those things that used to be included that's now an extra which seems to be the trend with most things Disney recently.

Never Again?!

Two 4 Lokos? In the parking lot of a good family friendly establishment like Holiday World? You're a psychopath, but I respect it. I'm a big fan of packing a cooler full of cold waters and gatorades and maybe a cold beer to enjoy before driving home, but never thought to head out there and grab a drink mid day. Tailgating at a theme park is a great idea and I'm mad I never thought about it lol. -

Here's one for me, Legoland Florida. I enjoyed the couple of visits I've had there but my kids are at the age now that there's practically nothing new they could build that would convince us to go there over Busch Gardens/Sea World/Universal/Disney etc, especially considering the price of admission. It's a good park, we had a lot of fun when both of my kids were under like age 5, but probably won't ever go back. -
Yeah.... I've seen some clips of that and it looks phenomenal. Spiderman tech is an interesting comparison but to me It almost looks like Universal version of Rise of the Resistance because there's so many physical set pieces and animatronics with the screens seamlessly blended in. That one scene with that one dinosaur....... wow.

Erik & Smisty's Denver Disappointment!

This place has always interested me for the dark ride slides and the fact that is look massive. Massive as in area wise but it also seems like they have every type of waterslide ever invented. I love a good day at the waterpark but there's nothing worse than when it's super crowded, so having about 50 different slides seems like it would help that. -
SeaWorld San Antonio Discussion Thread
Hilltopper39 replied to apollo210's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Every single park in the country could have a Screamin Swing ride and I'd be okay with it. Hopefully SeaWorld got a package deal with this one and are going to go ahead and slap on down in Tampa, Orlando, and San Diego in the future. -
I've enjoyed some of the banter back n forth between the two companies but for me there's a fine line between playful/fun and rude/annoying. This most recent one has been fun but it's getting kind of close to being annoying. Seems like a couple years ago Universal's feed started on the fun side then quickly turned into being very obnoxious for everything they posted.

Welp, guess I'll just have to take last years Busch Gardens/SeaWorld trip from Spring Break 2021 and run it back for 2022. Not really surprised here but atleast it's official now. Edit: Just read through the comments on some of the socials and it looks like they're offering anyone who had an pass from September of 2019 through now that will NOT have an active pass in spring of 2022 an opportunity to ride Iron Gwazi. There's a link where you can submit your eligibility and I'm guessing there will be some previews at some point ahead of the opening. Kudos to BGT for offering this, they certainly don't have to offer that but pretty cool that they are. There's also a comment from BGT on their Instagram feed saying that "active pass members will get Exclusive Ride time and other exclusives leading up to the new addition, stay tuned for more details". Maybe there's still some hope for some passholder previews before March of 2022.

Way back in the day I always enjoyed checking out Kentucky Kingdom during the state fair. I'm not much of a fair ride guy but the atmosphere was always fun and having a giant fair set up right next door to an open amusement park was always such an weird vibe that you can't help but enjoy it. Nothing like grabbing a few laps on a coaster then checking out the prize winning hogs and watermelons lol. Nice report.

Light-Green Weakass Snake, . Few things in this world give me more Joy and an Erik and Smisty Oddventure. -
You know the more I think about the Disney system I like the flexibility it offers. If you want to go on everything at Magic Kingdom a bunch of times it'll probably end up costing you roughly the equivalent of Universal's Express pass, and that's fine. But if you want to wait for some rides that don't have much of a line usually, use Genie+ for what's available, then pay the upcharge for a couple of your favorites that aren't included to avoid the wait you have that option as well, for what will likely be considerably less than $240/pppd. I'm still curious how the upcharges will be priced, and how it's going to work logistically, but it seems like you will have the option to spend nothing and have a normal day, or spend anywhere from $15 up to a couple hundred dollars depending on what you want to do. If I could go to Cedar Point and pay $15 for a 1 time FastLane for Steel Vengeance and Maverick instead of $180 per day for everything I'd probably use that option sometimes, but they don't offer that. Universal doesn't offer that, Busch Gardens doesn't offer that, Six Flags doesn't offer that, but now Disney is, which is kind of cool.

I wonder if they ever considered including the lower tier of Genie+ for everyone for "free", not technically for free but just roll it into the ticket price. It's such a small upcharge for the basic level that if you tack it onto the ticket price nobody notices and there's nothing to complain about lol.

For the most part like everything about the new system, but like all other "new" announcements I'm interested to see how it plays out and actually works. I love the idea that the ride reservations is all day of and in the park like it used to be, but since it's all digital I wonder how long the reservations are going to be available for. Back in the old paper fast pass days fast pass for some of more popular attractions would be gone for the day by like 10 am or something but you at least had to walk to the machines to get the paper pass. This time around since it's all digital will all of the Genie+ time slots for say Peter Pan be gone by 9:03 on a 9am opening day? I'm also interested in to see how they really price some of the more popular attractions that are upcharges in Genie+. $15 per person per day sounds fine, and it is, but at a park like Animal Kingdom is that going to included everything except Safaris, Everest and Flight of Passage? If so what's it's really going to end up costing to get on the good stuff. I'm fine with paying a little extra to get a little more, but let me know what it's really going to cost. If I wanna go on Tower, Rockin Roller Coaster, Rise of the Resistance, and Slinky Dog we talking about $15 plus an extra $40 or and extra $100?
