Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

How would you track attendance at NU? Do you only count attendance based on number of wrist band sales? Amount of tickets sold? Number of Transactions? That right there is why you don't see attendance figures for NU because they are nearly impossible to measure. These two places are extremely different and there is almost no way to compare them. NU is open year round and isn't going to see an attendance drop because of a rainy day. NU has less staff than valleyfair, their rides should hold up better being in a climate controlled area, they are getting money from people who wouldn't normally plan a day around an amusement park or drop $40-$50 to go to one, and most importantly they are located in a national shopping destination which sees 40+ million people a year. Also don't forget all of the general upkeep that Valleyfair has had to do the last few years to get the place looking nice. So considering all of that information it is no mystery as to why NU would be putting in more thrilling attractions than Valleyfair. One last thing, where NU is located they need to have attention grabbing rides to pull in the tourists that are at the mall. In summary these parks have a very different mark and that is no reason to compare them -

Yeah because a planet snoopy, route 66, and water park remodel is not noteworthy. If you are looking solely at coasters then lets look at it this way. MT Olympus- 1 Coaster Removed, One coaster got new trains and a re-profiled hill and turn around. Adventureland- Gets 1st coaster since 1993 Michigans Adventure- 1 relocated coaster Nick Universe- 2 coasters, however it is a very different market as it is open year round and located in a massive shopping center As you can see the upper midwest is just not that big of a amusement park hub. Valleyfair is being well taken care of for its location. They definitely compete with each other for the 4-12 age demographic. If not, then VF would not have invested $11 in the 2011 Snoopy Remodel and spent that some where else in the park. Camp Snoopy was the second biggest investment in the park since Wild Thing. Or maybe they did it because they want to implement something to get their current clientele something to come back for. It is also something that has been done in most of the smaller parks in the CF chain -
Could you explain to me why this one is annoying? You do realize that this doesn't hold up the line, right? You are just waiting in the queue area instead of in the station where you are surrounded by people bumping into you and those stations tend to get pretty hot and humid with hundreds of sweaty people standing around. I am one of those people that will wait to go into the station until several rows have a 2-3 train wait. I just find it way more comfortable standing out in the queue area where you can get fresh air versus being crammed in the cattle barn known as the station. Plus waiting to enter the station and letting it clear out a little makes it much easier to get your group on the same train.

Is there an actual rumor going around that Excalibur is getting removed or is everyone just hoping it gets removed? I think everyone is just fantasizing about what they would do with the park if they owned it and money wasn't an obstacle, but I just want to make sure I didn't miss something. -

I have noticed that you guys really like to complain about how VF is so mistreated, but if you look at the investments the last two years VF fair has come off looking really well. When comparing CF investments the last two years since VF was marked as a growth park the only parks with better investments were CP, CW, KI, Carowinds. Lets look to see how the other CF parks have been treated DP: 2014 Slide tower, 2015 Larson Flyer KD: 2014 General improvements 2015 Waterpark update WOF: 2014 Windseeker 2015 Kids Splashpad California Great America: 2014 Nothing 2015 Camp Snoopy Upgrade Knotts: 2014 Camp Snoopy upgrade 2015 Iron Reef (Ok this is better than what VF got) MIA: 2014 Nothing? 2015 Nothing -

All of your math is wrong, you forget the coasters that were built but since been removed. Besides that those stats mean nothing and are no indicator of when new rides will be built. The art on the season pass page also means nothing, as every parks season pass page has rides that aren't exactly correct or nonexistent. Just sit back and enjoy the season and don't stressing over how everything could be a hint as to what comes next. If you keep chasing the future you will miss out on the present -
If the names don't come up then they probably don't have the game anymore. Now if you are getting a failed to send request then that means either you or the person you sent the request to has 100 neighbors already.

What do you think of Fast Passes?
Fingers replied to K1ngdaKa88's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This right here is what I mean by virtual queue systems allow you to be two places at once, thus increasing the wait time in the regular line. You have said that the people with FP would be in front of you in line if they didn't have the pass, but how could they be when they are also in another line? I am beginning to see where our differences are, you are solely talking about Disney FP system which is not behind a paywall while I am talking about every FP system, as that is what the topic is about. The Disney FP system is different then all others, but is a perfect example of how FP makes the wait time for the regular line longer. Their standard system (not FP+) works by making you wait couple extra minutes for each ride due to the FP users. Now throughout the day those extra minutes will rack up and you essentially cash in your extra wait time minutes by using your FP ticket for your one ride. Now it is debatable if overall the Disney FP system makes your wait time for the day increase. Now any FP system that is behind a paywall will increase the wait time of the regular guests. Now you can say it doesn't increase wait time, but I would like to quote you again to prove that it does This will be my last response on this topic because this debate could easily keep going on until a mod has to stop it. I am for FP as I want parks making more money so they can put more money back into the parks. If you use FP fine by me, but don't trick yourself into believing that you are not making the other people wait longer. -
austinmbai920 - origin name I am looking for some neighbors so I can collect the superhero prizes. I usually log on about 3 times a day. I would really appreciate it if you guys add me

What do you think of Fast Passes?
Fingers replied to K1ngdaKa88's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have experienced multiple systems and I am personally a fan of the ride reservation system. I will explain how it's not my opinion, but a fact. The fast pass system is there so you will wait less and be able to do more things at the park. When people reserve a ride, what do they do? They go do other things in the park, so while they are in "line" for one ride they are out waiting for another ride. So they are in two places at once. You can say that they would have been ahead of you in line for ride 1(the FP one), but then they couldn't have gone over and ridden ride 2(non FP ride). So they got 2 rides in while the general public got 1. With the FP people getting more rides in than the general public it means that they are lengthening the line of the general public because these rides are a zero sum game. Your restaurant example is not a good one as it misses a key factor and that is what the people with the reservation are doing with their extra time. I am all for FP, but it just bothers me when people use misconceptions to defend their stance. -

Fingers replied to K1ngdaKa88's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You're forgetting that without FastPass, those 100 users would have been in line with the other 900 users. It's not like the 100 FP users would not exist if FP didn't exist. So the wait time for non-FP users is really is not affected at all. In fact, since not every FP ticket or time slot is used, it actually means the 900 non-FP users might actually wait slightly less at any one given point in time during the day. That argument you put forth is a fallacy. You have to remember that people can't be two places at once, but FP essentially allows that to happen. These people who you claim would be in front of you if they didn't have FP are now in a different line making that line longer, thus making the general public's wait longer. I am not arguing for or against FP but, it is an undisputed fact that FP makes the line longer for the general public however, you it is debatable how much longer of a line FP makes is for others. The virtual queue probably has a small effect but, systems like cedar fairs probably has a noticeable effect. -
What do you think of Fast Passes?
Fingers replied to K1ngdaKa88's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have used a fast pass system twice before and they were really nice to have. I don't have a problem with the virtual queue system, but the cedar fair fast lane system needs to be reworked. The FL system has way too much of an impact on the regular queue wait time. I rode Flight of Fear when it was on FL and that line was just a standstill as they would let one party from FL then one party from the regular queue, thus greatly increasing wait time. Beast, Millennium Force, Maverick, and Dragster all had similar issues with their FL queue being so large that is made the regular queue move at a snails pace. Also I believe the fast pass should never get to enter through the exit ramp as it causes problems for groups that are trying to get on the same train and causes huge delays on those waiting for the front row. People also wonder why the stand by guests have such a huge issue with fast pass users and this is why, Some FP users believe that they are better than everyone else and when even a minority act that way it makes the nonusers think all FP users are like that. P.S. prozach626 this is not meant to be an attack at you it is simply me stating how your post came off. -
CP or Bust: Trip Planning Advice Needed

I highly recommend skipping Black Widow and doing Max-Air at Cedar Point instead. When I went last year Black Widow was taking about 10mins to complete a cycle. We had a 2 cycle wait and by the time we got off 34mins had passed since we got in line. Max-Air may have a longer line but will definitely have a shorter wait time. -

You seem to have a need to be the center of attention. Your story doesn't seem to make sense to me. You seem to be great friends with Mr. Fraizer, and yet you are trying to spoil an upcoming announcement. If you were friends with him one would think that he would be mad at you for putting this information out. Also leakers never mention anyone by name even if they aren't your source as you don't want to bring added attention to them. I could be wrong but you are coming off as someone who just wants the attention and is saying vague things that many believe will happen to make it seem like you know. If I am shown to be wrong I will apologize for me doubting you. -

^Ah I see you are a fan of the magic mountain business model, screw customer service we need MORE COASTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After reading your argument I can't believe a park would ever go a year without a coaster seeing how it attracts so many people and no one cares about how the rest of the park looks. People will come if they add a coaster but they won't return if they don't get the rest of the park looking better, mainly the back half. -

^ Please reread the posts of people who are saying you guys don't need a coaster. No one is saying you don't need one at all, the opposing view point is that a coaster is not your number one need. The opposing view is also not saying you won't be getting a coaster, we all know that you guys will get a new coaster soon (within 3 years probably) because you guys have had a drought and have been fixing up your park. The whole argument of we need _____ because we haven't got one in awhile is getting really annoying. You guys have a great coaster lineup for your park size. Don't expect to get massive investments because right meow your park doesn't have a big enough costume base. -

Yes it does if VF wants to keep up with the rest of the parks in the CF chain. Every other park in the chain over the last 5 years has received a new coaster except Mia and KBF. During that time KBF got a Windseeker that was removed and had also has received much love with Camp Snoopy, Calico Mine and Log Ride revamps among other additions. If VF does not want to become MiA they need a new coaster soon, it will be 9 years in 2016. There are so many things wrong with this post. KBF got a coaster a few years ago Coast Rider. Valleyfair got a coaster in 2011. MiA and WOF haven't got a coaster in 5 years. Dorney got a coaster a few years ago (Stinger) which I believe doesn't run anymore. They haven't got a "new" coaster since 2005, the last two were relocated coasters. California's Great America didn't get a coaster from 2001-2013 and they seem to be doing fine. Hell Cedar Point didn't get a coaster for 6 years, so I guess they must have really neglected the park. Also if you are getting a coaster just because you are trying to compete with parks that are out of your league the park will be in trouble. A new coaster is not a need right meow, the park needs to get cleaned up first which is what they are doing. When you get something new to attract people you want your place looking nice so people will come back. What?! Wow! Sweet! VALLEYFAIR GOT A NEW COASTER IN 2011!!! Can't wait to get to the park and ride it....................................................................................................oh wait, Valleyfair is my home park and I don't remember them getting a new coaster in 2011, or 2010 or 2009 or 2008...you get the point. I am not counting old used kiddie coasters and Northern Lights albeit an awesome "flat ride" is not a coaster. Valleyfair has not got a new coaster since Renegade in 2007. We have not received a coaster of any kind with inversions in over 30 years! We are not whining, just stating facts on what Valleyfair needs right now. Know your facts before you post cause it just kills your credibility. Also, what are you talking about when you mention getting "cleaned up first"? Valleyfair is one of the most clean, well landscaped and beautiful parks in Cedar Fair's chain. Didn't you read the post by voyager 6442? Here it is. "I just wanted to tell you guys how much I've enjoyed reading the VF thread. I started with the oldest post (2005?) and have been reading them in chronological order. It has been neat to see how much you guys love your park and hope for great things in the future. I hope you will get them, because you deserve them. I am 960 miles away from Minneapolis, and if I were going to be within several hundred miles of your park, I would definitely make a stop there." What facts did I get wrong? The "we haven't got a coaster with _______" argument is pretty silly and can be used for just about any park. Well it is just my personal opinion but the area around mad mouse is hideous. I would love to see the area from the final turnaround of high roller to wheel of fortune get completely redone. The areas they have recently redone look amazing and I think they should fix the aforementioned area before building a new coaster, so the increase in guests brought by the coaster will see how nice the park is and want to come back. -

Well here goes my first attempt at a trip report. I went to Worlds of Fun 9/27/14 and here are my quick thoughts on the day. The perfect weather and it being a haunt weekend caused it to be quite busy especially around 4 with almost all rides boasting a full queue. There were also a few hundred people from Altec at the park and they were all really nice except for the several that became extremely drunk by the end of the night. I will go through the rides in order that we did them and give a quick thought on each Patriot- A solid ride, is about the best I can say for it. It's not very thrilling or intense but still a pretty fun ride. It was my first ride of the day and the only ride I had on it. Detonator- This was my next ride of the day and it may be a short tower, but it is really fun due to the mass amounts of airtime you get. Autobahn- We rode this ride simply because there was no line and is just a terrible bumper cars ride due to the fact you have to drive in a circle Le TaxiTour- Stopped here for a nice relaxing ride and to get a good look at one of the mazes we will be doing later London Terror Boomerang- We decided to stop here next due to there being no line and we knew this wouldn't happen again. It's a standard boomerang and like all others it is worth one ride per visit if there is a minimal line. Mamba- This year the ride was much better. There was some airtime on the bunny hills, not a lot though. The little air made the ride much better than previous years. The ride did have a wasp problem on the lift hill just like Prowler and Timber Wolf. We rode this ride 3 times, twice later in the night when the queue was almost full and both of those waits were 20-30mins Prowler- There was quite the line because they were only running one train. The ride itself was very good and the night rides were amazing with the darkness and fog. The on-ride photo makes the ride so much better at night as it blinds you for part of the ride. Sadly only got one day ride as there was only one train operation and breakdowns throughout the afternoon, but scored 3 night rides. Steel Hawk- I am a huge fan of these rides as they offer great views, good way to cool down on hot days, and are all around very relaxing. Got a day and night ride, both were relaxing and offered nice views. The did suffer a breakdown in the afternoon which caused it be down for a few hours. Timber Wolf- Very fun, but very rough. I rode it 3 times all in the front and one of those at night. The front seat is a must as it makes it ride-able and don't lean back on the back rest. Every time I rode this I couldn't stop laughing as I was having so much fun on the ride. Worlds of Fun Railroad- Just an ordinary train ride nothing much to say about it. The employees were very nice and seemed to like their job so that made the experience pretty good. Ed Alonzo's Psycho Circus (datytime show)- Very entertaining but was a little short for my taster 20-25mins. If you like magic shows then you will like this show. Haunt- We got fright lane plus and it was worth it. The bonus rooms were ok, but the scaractors and the characters they portrayed were amazing. This report will be spoiler free on those rooms but will hint at what the rooms are, but if people want to know more details let me know. Most haunts were an 1hr-1.5hr waits but were basically a walk on with fright lane. They say overlords awakening is at 7:30 but things start happening at 7. Around 7 music starts playing and the scaractors start to come out move through the crowd of people watching the awakening. There are many good scares to be seen during this time and is one of the highlights of the event. Chamber of Horrors- 2nd ones through the maze and we loved it. There were plenty of great scares and the theming was great. I liked how you went through 2 buildings and they each had a different feel to them. Corn Stalkers- I still like the concept and execution of this maze. I like the narrow walk ways which provide some good scares, but it did feel like they were short on scaractors as you could see spots where they should be. The bonus room here was pretty funny, but very gross. Asylum- Probably my favorite maze. It felt very long and provided good scares. The strobe light and fog maze at the end always gets me so confused as to where I am going. Bonus room was my favorite of all and it involved you becoming someones pet. Bloodshed- Not scary, very short, but had one great spot where there is someone carrying a live snake. Bonus room is just based on being gross. London terror- Not too scary but very good atmosphere and felt like it had a decent length. The bonus room was based on Dr. Jekkyl and Mr. Hyde it was funny but could be seen as very gross to some. Zombie High- Felt short and there were no scares to be had. The rooms and makeup looked cool but that is about the only good things I can say about it. Zombies just don't make a scary maze and they just move slow and don't have any moments that make you jump and think what is going on. Lore of the Vampire- Good length, but please get rid of this one. There is some cool props but nothing in there could be considered scary. The only thing that could even get a jump out of anyone would be the train horn, but that has the downfall of if you are in the wrong spot when that goes off you will be deaf for a few minutes. The bonus room here is very bleh and forgettable. Scare Zones- Nothing good to say about any of them. Bone yard makes no sense to me, carnevil is out of the way and too open for a scare zone, and outlaw revenge is also in just too open of an area. Overall I had a great experience and my only advice to anyone going is to get fright lane. Also sorry for this report for being so long. And here is a picture of the nice entrance theming -

I am curious if anyone tried the skeleton key last year. I am contemplating getting it this year, but would like to know what the bonus rooms entail and if it is worth it over just the regular fright lane. I don't need a detailed description of the bonus rooms, but would like an generic overview of the rooms. Thanks in advance for any help -
^ The reason you haven't seen anyone talking about how they like the cartoony aspects of the game is because you are looking at places where hardcore tycoon players are at. The people who are on boards talking about the game are still the minority of the people who buy the game. The majority of people who bought the game went through the scenarios and had a fun time playing them and not spending their time trying to create realism. If realism is what people really want in a game then why does RCT out sell NL? The more detailed/realistic features you add the more complicated the game becomes. The more complicated the game becomes more people will get frustrated and dislike the game.
