Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
RCjunkie replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Checked the Shakopee city website for any new building permits for VF and they had two news ones issued yesterday. They are both valued at $20,000 a piece and they look like they will be adding Refill Drinks stations to existing food buildings. I cannot get a good screen shot to display the entire permit so I will just post the link and you can look at them for yourself. Permit SH086278 Details = 'convert Atomic Pizza to Atomic Refill' - https://epermits2.logis.org/permits/permitdetails.aspx?city=sh&permitnbr=SH086278 and Permit SH086279 Details = 'convert Monster Pronto's to Monster Refill' - https://epermits2.logis.org/permits/permitdetails.aspx?city=sh&permitnbr=SH086279 I am only guessing by the description. If someone thinks or knows something else please let me know. -

If you can't handle a Morgan hyper are you sure you really want them to expand their coaster offerings to include more cutting edge rides? If I were you I'd be clamoring for more benches, carousels and for them to consider offering pony rides. Look at all these Valleytards defending Valleyfail. coasterbill is not defending Valleyfair, he is calling you out (and rightfully so) just like VF15 for indicating Wild Thing is a 'painful' ride. Have you really even rode it? Seriously, Wild Thing's 'smoothness' and comfy big trains are two of its biggest selling points after the first drop. If you think Morgan Hypers are 'painful' rides then that just shows how desperate you are to throw shade at Valleyfair. Like coasterbill said, maybe more painless benches or the current carousel restoration project that is in progress is maybe more your speed then. On a completely unrelated note I just wanted to shout out to VF15 that the WIld Thing ride ops crew this year were top notch. They rocked trains out of there on time for all my visits after June 1st. Nice job. I wish I could say the same for Renegade. In all the years I have rode Renegade the crew this year was the worst they have had. Slow dispatch times all year long, they never got better even after 2-3 month's experience. Hopefully they can get back to a good crew next year because they usually have a solid crew back there. Also someone mentioned that VF was the northern most park in the US. You can go a step further and say it is the most northern CF park in the chain because it is even more north than Canada's Wonderland by almost a whole Latitude line. -

A front-gate B&M would be ~$15 million. Considering Talon cost $14 million in 2006 you think the park can get a front gate B&M 10 plus years later AND redesign the front gates to be integrated with it like CP or CW for $15 million in 2018? And realistically the Dino's cannot leave until 2020 at the earliest due to their contract so just add a few more dollars and keep dreaming. Considering the park just added 'new' PTC trains to High Roller last year probably means the coaster isn't going anywhere for at least 10 years. If Matt Quimet was really worried about the safety of High Roller more would have been done last year to make it 'safe' than just adding new trains. Considering High Roller just celebrated 40 years of operations along with Excalibur's 27 years and both coasters having ZERO amputations during that time with no other accidents there are no real safety concerns here. Only your made up hyperbole. So the park is going to add a 4000 car parking lot, move and add mileage to an existing service road vital to operations of the park, fill in wetlands that would be disturbed for this move, secure the new area's of the park that were created by the moving of the service road and the new part of the waterpark, remove a coaster (Excalibur), create a new back entrance and also add some new water slides and attractions for only $20 million? Good luck with that. I am curious on this because I always think any park can use a new flat ride so I have to ask. What ride(s) exactly would be added? And where are you going to put them? I think your $50 million is way too small a budget to do what you want and not doable at all. Like Password121 said, 'Standard Capex' aka $75 million...or even higher if you ask me. And why would you want to RMC High Roller? If your going to dream, why not go big and remove High Roller and use all of the existing land already there with the 'new' land to the north of it that was created when they moved the old picnic area? You could even move the entrance of the coaster line queue while you were at it. -
Another sad story about someone breaking safety rules. Boy killed in fall from water slide in Wisconsin Dells area By ASSOCIATED PRESS LAKE DELTON, Wis. — A boy has died after police say he fell from an outdoor water slide at a resort in the Wisconsin Dells area. Police say the incident happened Wednesday night at Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park in Lake Delton. The area surrounding the slide is closed for the season and is fenced off and the gates are locked. Lake Delton police say the boy and two other juveniles entered the restricted area and climbed to the top of the slide. The boy used a sled to go down the slide, but got caught in the snow. When he tried to free himself, he fell 35 feet to the ground. He died at the scene. Police say the boy’s family was staying at the resort at the time. http://www.twincities.com/2016/12/22/boy-killed-in-fall-from-water-slide-in-wisconsin-dells-area/

Top/Favorite Hyper Coasters
RCjunkie replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Of the Hypers I have been one Diamondback is my favorite because after the first drop it is total air machine and always brings a smile to my face. A nice long layout too. After visiting last summer after a 5 year hiatus I noticed they need to replace some of those seats on the trains though. They are starting to look pretty worn. -

Apparently the TL;DR version of this that was passed on to top executives was "Give everything a corporate copycat feel but put the word "Carolina" before absolutely everything". Substitute 'Minnesota' for 'Carolina' and I'll take all the corporate copycat generic feel that comes with it as long as the park gets a water park expansion and a new coaster like CW did. On another note, I am surprised they left the chairs/swings on North Star. I thought they would remove them like they do on the Charlie Brown flying swings for the winter. -

Thanks for taking the time to share the pic. Very nice to see the entire pole lit up versus what we get to see on the construction camera. A much larger lighting package than I thought they would have for it, good for the park. -

For sure. You knew there was no way they were going to have all the construction people on site and not test the functionality and power of the ride before they left and just leave testing for the spring like some have suggested. That made no sense. Of course they will re-test it next spring before they open it to the public also. It sure does add to the skyline view when you drive by. -

If you look closely at the bottom of the picture you can see them putting on the chains and swing seats today. Working on a Sunday they must really want to get this done. Getting close. Maybe we will see some testing in the next two weeks. -
WOW! Thanks for answering this question Robb, enlightening and very entertaining to read. Had no idea the 'hate' for you was bad enough for people to take the time to set up a Facebook page. If you don't like something that is not harming anyone why would you spend your time and energy on the 'hate' instead of just moving along? I just don't get it. Then again, I am old so that may have something to do with it.

I must be no one then. I just visited CP last year to try Valravn and have no reason to go back for a few years unless they indicate that the re-done Mean Streak will be running in 2017. If that is true then I will be going, if not, then I won't. It totally affects if I will visit CP and buy a Platinum Pass for next year for sure. But your right, I am not sitting on my hands or fretting about it but it will affect my plans on what park(s) to visit next year. -

If you have to use a 'trick' to reduce the roughness to enjoy a ride then you are admitting it is a rough coaster. This coaster like all other ones was designed with backs on the seats for a reason. If you were meant to 'lean foward' the entire ride they would have designed the seats without backs in the first place. And what you call a 'trick' I call 'just a natural rational response to preserving you lower back' after the first drop. Good for you, but that still doesn't change the fact that Mean Streak was a rough coaster. If you like riding Mean Streak then I am glad you enjoyed it and had fun, everyone is different. If you enjoy being a masochist knock yourself out. Just don't tell me it is not a rough coaster or call me a 'fan boy' for saying it is. When I rode it this past June is was still plenty rough to me and I personally cannot wait for RMC to do their magic on that unruly hunk of junk. Noted, but you had me fooled with the TTD GIF above your username and your 'Location' as CP or SDC. -

Most of the people who ride Renegade feel the same way, it is not spectacular but a very solid ride fro sure. The thing is not a lot of people make it up this way to ride it otherwise I think you would hear more people say that. Glad you got to enjoy it finally after riding those other GCI's -

I think it is even more funny reading the CP fanboys who defend Mean Streak and think the ride is not rough. If it wasn't rough more people would have rode it and CP would not be tearing it down. -

Best New Attraction for 2016 (Amusement Park) 1.) Lightning Rod at Dollywood 2.) Storm Chaser at Kentucky Kingdom 3.) Mako at Seaworld Orlando 4.) Valravn at Cedar Point 5.) Switchback at ZDT's Personally, I would pick Monster over Valravn. -

Took a couple shots Saturday of the North Star pieces that have arrived. North Star ride parts stored in the old Scrambler area. They found the right park.
