What Did You Get For Christmas?!
mightypotato replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
It was nicely hidden in my parents' basement from me. Since I don't live at home, I was none the wiser. They told me to go downstairs and I was all "whaaaa". -

I got pretty much the surprise of my life when I opened a present this morning to find a 42" LCD TV. Yay for watching Blu-Rays in actual HD now. -
Since I opted not to go on a TPR trip this year, a friend and I decided to do our own little trip. We're hitting Holiday World, Kings Island and Cedar Point this June. Not a big trip, but should be good times anyways. He's a new coaster enthusiast, so it'll be nice to expose him to some awesome new rides. And of course, I'll be doing the whole Canada's Wonderland/Martin's Fantasy Island/Darien Lake thing again this year since they're all close to me.

I saw Metallica at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Monday. OMG, they were fantastic. Their energy was off the wall, and they played extremely well. Kirk nailed the incredibly fast solos for One, Master of Puppets, Seek and Destroy, etc. I also really appreciated the fact that they played nothing from St. Anger and only one song from the Load/ReLoad albums (The Memory Remains). It was mostly older stuff (Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning) and Death Magnetic. Next concert: Heathenfest (Eluveitie, Belphegor, Alestorm, Kivimetsan Druidi and Vreid) on November 4th.

Found this today and its too good not to share....

I guess the hardest course I took in university was a boundary layer climatology course. It wasn't that it was difficult from a content point of view, but it was an extraordinary amount of work that was required for the assignments and term papers. It was one of those fourth year classes that's worth double the credit since it needs so much work.

Knoebels Discussion Thread
mightypotato replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Flying Turns is quickly turning into the roller coaster equivalent of Duke Nukem Forever. However, I really want to see this completed, operational and successful. But then again, I said that about Duke Nukem Forever back in 1999. -
Roll Call for B-list musicians

Your tastes in jazz music are impressive. -
I saw Dragonforce in Toronto last week. It was fast, hard and surprisingly decent live. Through the Fire and Flames is still awesome. Next up is Metallica on October 26th.

I'm currently addicted to Infamous on PS3. Its one of the most fun games I've played in the last little while. Almost like GTA if you had god-like powers and abilities. And of course, being the WoW nerd I am...I'm still grinding away with that. I need to start raiding more often again, despite the objections of my social life.

I freakin' LOVE Metric. Their new album is one of my favourites of the year. I saw them play at the University of Waterloo frosh week back in 2006, except I'm pretty sure Emily Haines was really drunk and didn't know where she was. If you don't mind me asking, what school do you go to where they played?

Unless you count the $6 I spent on lunch today, I spent roughly $410 on one of those fancy new PS3 slims, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Infamous. It was a birthday present to myself. Although this means no more buying concert tickets for a while. Which kind of makes me sad.

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
mightypotato replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Like I said in the rumour thread, I don't think Canada's Wonderland will be seeing a giga coaster any time soon. They have a great mega coaster in Behemoth and I don't think they're in a hurry to put something taller up. However, I can see an Intamin accelerator like iSpeed coming to the park. Either that or a smaller B&M floorless. I don't expect anything massive coming though. -
Roll Call for B-list musicians

Hmmm....sounds interesting. I'll bite. A: Alestorm - Pirate heavy metal. Need I say more? B: Buckethead - Some of the most inventive guitar work ever. C: Chad VanGaalen - Indie music with odd, but interesting vocals. D: Danny Michel - Canadian folksy music that is a good time. E: E.S. Posthumus - Instrumental music based around pythagorean theory F: FischerSpooner - Cool electronic music for cool people. G: George Clinton - Who doesn't like a bit of old school funk? H: Holy Fu*k - Very cool electronic band with a dirty name. I: Ida Cox - One of the first big female jazz musicians. J: Jimmy Smith - God of the electric organ. K: The Kleptones - Albums of all mash-ups. Very cool stuff. L: Got nothing for L. That's sad. M: Metric - Dear god, I love this band. N: Nashville Pussy - Bad name, awesome rock music. O: OK Go - They do other things than dance on treadmills, you know. P: Primus - They suck now, and have always sucked* Q: Queen - I know not B-list, but they don't get the respect they deserve R: Roots Manuva - Possibly the only hip-hop act I actually enjoy. S: Suidakra - Really awesome metal band out of Germany T: Tegan and Sara - Two indie chicks with awesome music. U: Got nothing for U either. Also sad. V: Vangelis - Cool instrumental stuff. W: The Weakerthans - They hate Winnipeg and are pretty awesome. X: XTC - "Dear God" is one of my all time favourite songs. Y: Yngwie Malmsteen - God of the electric guitar. No one comes close. Z: ZZ Top - Sure...why not. *If you understand this joke, you're awesome. -
Golden Ticket Awards 2009

They might as well have just pushed copy/paste from last year's results. And the year before...and the year before...etc. -

I completely agree. I was just attempting to make a joke that failed spectacularly. -

Sounds like someone who either works for Amusement Today or votes in the Golden Ticket Awards. -
The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Not so sure about that. We just got a B&M hyper with Behemoth in 2008. A giga wouldn't make too much sense in the park. But...then again, there is Millennium Force and Magnum at CP. I can see an Intamin accelerator along the lines of iSpeed being a good fit for the park. -
If I get one more Mafia Wars of Farm Friends invite, I'm going to punch Facebook. Right in the html code.

I recently saw Motorhead on Wednesday. They played with Nashville Pussy and Reverend Horton Heat. I never thought I'd say this, but Nashville Pussy was pretty damn good. Motorhead was awesome as well. My only complaint was that they were actually too loud. Normally, I can be near the front of the stage and my ears will be fine. This time however, I had to move farther back, and my ears were still ringing/hurting. The best part was their 10 minute rendition of Overkill for their last encore song. That was freaking awesome. My next concert will be on the 26th when I go see KMFDM.

I've got about 7,100 songs on my iPod. That, and season one of Breaking Bad, season four of The Simpsons, The Blues Brothers, Anchorman, Network, The Dark Knight, Dazed and Confused, and Up in Smoke. I just thank god that my music files are .mp3 instead of FLAC or any other lossless format.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
mightypotato replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This ride has me excited. Its also a good reason for me to trek down to Virginia next summer. As for the OTSRs, I don't mind them. On the only Intamin I've been on with them (Maverick), I was still able to throw my hands in the air and experience some nice air. Kings Dominion has a winner on their hands with this one. Just not a fan of the Earnhardt theming though...
