What is your next park?
thrillseeker4552 replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Knott's Berry Farm on November 26th! -
I see this as one of two options: 1. A new dark ride or theater ride of some sort to replace Mystery Lodge. 2. A new theme, overlay, or revamp of Voyage to the Iron Reef. I think they're both equally likely. Mystery Lodge closed earlier this year, which could be a sign. But given the 100th Anniversary celebration, re-theming Voyage to something like Bear-y Tales or Kingdom of the Dinosaurs to bring back a classic would be fitting as well. Exciting stuff!

Like most people, I totally love to make fun of SFMM for how long this coaster is taking. But it is nice to see such a large project taking shape. Nothing about this ride seems "half-a$$ed" like some Six Flags additions. They are completely rebuilding an area of the park that DESPERATELY needed it. It looks like they are actually constructing a full station building rather than a silly canopy like on Full Throttle. New paint everywhere, new buildings, upgraded restrooms, new pathways, a wooden coaster that no longer rides like sh*t, and a non-DC hero themed dueling quadruple launched coaster with a fantastic color scheme. Yes, it's slow and steady, but I am glad to see such SFMM put in lots of effort into a new project. I would argue this is their largest addition (and possible largest investment?) since Tatsu once you include all the groundwork and revamp of the whole area. It can't be cheap. Not trying to come off as a crazy fanboy (trust me, I have my issues with the park). But I am so excited for this project and think Six Flags deserves a ton of credit once it's all complete.

Opening: Dec 30 2019. "See, we told you it was new for 2019!" At this point, I will actually be surprised if WCR opens in 2019. I could very well see a January or February opening. A December opening is possible and probably the most likely scenario, but as we all know by now, NOTHING is predictable with this ride.

Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have a friend who lives near Valleyfair who went last night. She said it was absolutely slammed and she only did one ride. That was also her first trip to Valleyfair. -
CGA opens for the season in mid-late March. It's usually the same weekend that Carowinds and Kings Dominion open. This year it was on March 23rd, I believe. They operate weekends-only until Memorial Day, like most parks. I don't think you will have any issues with crowds whatsoever. Sundays are always better than Saturdays though.

Funniest Ride Experiences
thrillseeker4552 replied to Coasters 4 ever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Back in June when my family visited Carowinds, my 13-year-old sister finally overcame her fear and took her first ride on Fury 325. This was, by far, the biggest/fastest/longest coaster she had ever ridden. She clenched the clamshell so tightly during the lift hill and first drop, then everything after that she had her hands up the whole time! She then got off and it immediately became her favorite coaster and she wanted to marathon it the rest of the night. Sometimes seeing someone else enjoy a ride is just as enjoyable for me as enjoying it myself. I was so proud of her for riding it, especially since we're from California and were on vacation there, so she wouldn't get another chance to ride anything like it for a while. We also had a front row night ride on Copperhead Strike that same day, and it was so much fun. That's her second favorite coaster in the park (and mine too). We love Carowinds now and can't wait to go back. EDIT: I now realize this is "funniest" ride experiences and not "funnest," but oh well, it's still a fun story to share! -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I think Invertigo is "fine." It's definitely better than your average boomerang, and oddly enough it is smoother than any SLC I've ridden, but I can't see Invertigo lasting too many more years given Stinger's fate. But then again, this one has apparently always been more reliable than others and it also received some parts from Stinger so who really knows. I kind of just want to see Kings Island remove a third coaster in a row and see enthusiasts completely lose their minds. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When I was younger and smaller, I absolutely hated every Arrow looper I had ridden. Now that I'm fully grown, the restraints fit me much better and eliminate all headbanging. I can appreciate their intensity more now. With that being said, I'm not disappointed that Vortex is closing. It's just outdated and too uncomfortable for too many people. The only Arrow looper that I will actually be sad to see go is Viper since it's not only my favorite but also for sentimental reasons. I imagine some people feel that way about Vortex what I feel with Viper. But Viper's removal is just a matter of time now too. On to bigger and better things! We still have an awesome giga coaster to look forward to next year, and probably another awesome new coaster just a year or two after that since I can't imagine Cedar Fair leaving Vortex's land vacant for too long. Anyone who lives near KI should be pumped for the future! -
Carowinds Discussion Thread

At least Copperhead Strike will be open for Winterfest. Another major coaster to eat up crowds will help. Kings Dominion is also opening Twisted Timbers this year in addition to Dominator (albeit not opening Rebel Yell anymore). But aside from those two parks and the two in California, Six Flags definitely has the more “fun” winter events for us enthusiasts! -
Even though I doubt this will go through, it is terrifying to think about. I have SO MUCH more fun at every Cedar Fair park I go to than any Six Flags park. They are so much better run. Faster, more efficient food service, better food in general, major rides are actually open and run at near or full capacity in peak summer, and a better atmosphere overall. If some smaller parks like Valleyfair, WOF, or MiA are let go from Cedar Fair (which I still don't think would happen), I wouldn't care too much. But if Six Flags even TOUCHES Cedar Point or Knott's Berry Farm..... I think even the most mild and casual enthusiasts would be upset.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Does Wicked Twister have lots of maintenance issues? Is it closed often? I really can't seem them scrapping it unless it's as much of a headache as Volcano was, but then again Cedar Fair is kinda giving zero f**ks lately with their ride removals in the last couple years so they could easily just scrap the ride. That is, assuming it's even on the chopping block. That rumor has been around for years so I'll believe it when I see it I suppose. -
If it does open in 2019, I think December is the only likely time. Thanksgiving is exactly two months away, and given their rate of construction over the last year, I can't see them fully constructing the station, queue line, complete all proper testing, get inspected and approval by the state, and open the ride in that time. December is possible, but I really think an early 2020 opening (any time between January - March) is seeming more and more likely. It's a year round park, and I visit every few months, so I don't really care when it opens. I am still very excited. That area of the park is finally receiving the massive transformation it needed. The coaster looks fantastic visually, and combined with a smoother Apocalypse, it will be worth it for me.

Viper's day will come eventually. I am just enjoying it as much as I can while it is still here. Same goes for Ninja! That day will be sad, but I am all about parks evolving and replacing old busted coasters with new ones to last another 30+ years or more. That's the circle of life! I'm not sure if Vortex being removed is any "hint" that Arrows are reaching the end of their lives. Viper was built 3 years after Vortex, but is also a taller/faster/longer/more intense coaster, so who really knows. Many Arrows from the '70s are still operating, whereas others barely lived long enough to see a decade or two of operation like Shockwave at SFGAm, Steel Phantom, and GASM at SFGAdv.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It is also interesting to note the timing of this removal. Assuming the ride doesn’t sit and rot, they will be removing this coaster while simultaneously constructing their largest coaster yet. I know it’s crazy to talk about what may replace Vortex while an awesome B&M Giga is currently being built, but I would love to see it replaced with a new-generation looper a few years down the road. It would be great to see Cedar Fair work with Vekoma on a crazy new looping coaster like Lech Coaster. -

I was definitely not expecting this at all. I never particularly liked the ride, but I know it has a place in history and many coaster fans enjoyed it. RIP. Cedar Fair is really dishing out these ride removals pretty easily. Stinger, Boomerang, Volcano, Firehawk, and Vortex all in the last 3 years. -
Lagoon Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It is nice to see Lagoon finally addressing the new ride. I am not surprised to hear it won't open for a few more years. We all know how many years Cannibal was in development. Also, Julie runs the Lagoon Instagram page and keeps it very active with lots of interesting stuff constantly. She has done a great job with it and I really suggest following. Now that they have acknowledged the new coaster, maybe small updates will be posted here and there in the coming months (and years).
