The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
Woodie Warrior replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Magnum is an okay ride to me but nothing amazing. I don't say that because of the last airtime hills, which I didn't find too horrible, but because the ride has a pretty lame layout that does nothing for me. -

Lagoon Discussion Thread
Woodie Warrior replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Eh I'm nervous about the trains. They look very similar to Thunderbolts at Coney Island, and I've heard so many bad things about those. -
Just got back from the premiere of Mockingjay, and wow. They turned my least favorite book in the series into my favorite movie in the series. The acting is top-notch and even though there isn't much action there are so many amazing and suspenseful scenes. Highly recommend it.

I'm really confused. Are we talking about the same company that let Hannibarrels rot in the middle of the park or are we talking about the company that passed down a 27 year old used boomerang? Would you consider SFGAD a neglected park in the chain? I mean sure, they have a hyper, strata, and one of the best coasters in the world. But they have an entire section of the park left to rot and they not only got a hand-me-down stand-up coaster, next year they are getting a Ring of Fire, which is worse than a Boomerang IMO. Every park has off years, we've had more than a few, but in 2015 the park is getting a state of the art attraction and there is no reason to complain about that.

IAAPA 2014 Live Coverage!
Woodie Warrior replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
IAAPA looks like an awesome event this year. I can't believe such a high tech animatronic is coming to SFSTL. And Switchtrack looks awesome. The industry is growing and growing each year it seems. -
^I love GCI coasters, but I have to agree that Switchback looks a lot better than GCI's wooden shuttle concept. It seems like the amusement industry gets bigger and bigger each year. Sure, giant parks aren't being built really anymore, but we've entered an era where small parks are starting to get bigger and bigger. I mean, Holiday World is getting a $22 million dollar wing coaster and now a FEC that nobody has ever heard of before is getting the world's first wooden shuttle coaster.

People complaining about how Six Flags St. Louis is neglected by corporate need to shut up already. This ride looks to be the biggest investment in the chain next year (unless Twisted Colossus costs more than I think). I don't care if it isn't a coaster, Spider-Man at Universal is the best ride I've ever been on, and if Justice League turns out to be half as good as that I'll be over the moon. Just because they aren't adding something you personally want (like a hyper coaster) doesn't mean the park is being ignored by Six Flags.

^Other than the fact that it's a wooden shuttle coaster, there is really nothing in common with this ride and GCI's proposed shuttle coaster. GCI's has two lift hills and no switch track, while this one has a lift hill, a vertical spike, and a switch track to get riders back to the station. Not to mention the elements are completely different.

IAAPA 2014 Live Coverage!

What companies/parks are making announcements tomorrow? -
^Lol. The main argument I don't get is that a lot of the older fanboys don't like that the new buildings in the park aren't all run down looking and have fresh and bright paint. But in the 1800s, the buildings wouldn't look run down, they'd look brand new since they actually would be brand new. But that's a discussion for another day. Anyways, I agree that Herschend is more than capable of revitalizing Fire in the Hole. I just hope they do that instead of letting it rot away. Even if the ride itself could be considered "lame" by today's standards, it does have a lot of fun parts and has a few good surprises.

Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread

^If the park is purchasing new dinosaurs I doubt Dinosaurs Alive is going anywhere anytime soon. -
From what I've heard FITH needs more than just a "freshening up". I'm not talking about the sets and animatronics, I'm talking about the ride system itself. The splashdown makes the trains and track of the ride constantly wet and damp which is a problem for a ride that's been around for decades. That's the reason Dollywood eliminated the splashdown on Blazing Fury.
-
^Every time I go on Fire-in-the-Hole I hear people in the queue and on the ride quoting lines from the ride and talking about the story. People love the theme, characters, and the cheesiness of the whole ride. I have heard that the ride is in need of lots of repair and that the splashdown is a big factor in that. I honestly don't think there is anyway to fix the ride permanently without pissing off locals, but if it needs to be fixed it needs to be fixed. I'd love for the thing to be completely gutted out and given a new Zierer drop track with all new animatronics and sets (from Garner Holt). As long as they keep the storyline and the well-known quotes, I think it would go over well with the majority of people. Then again, you'd have people like the old geezers at SDCFans who would talk about how the park is loosing all of its charm and it is falling apart.

The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread

^Hades was amazing when I rode it this summer. Top 5 material in my opinion. HellCat on the other hand...not so much. In fact, Hades gets my vote for pleasant surprise. After reading all the complaints about it, I was not excited about riding it. But it was not rough at all. I guess the track work last fall really paid off. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

Okay thanks. The event last year was awesome and was the best time I've had at a park, period. -
1. How do you most often watch videos? (DVD, Blu-Ray, Digital Download, Streaming.) Really it's a combination of the first three for me. We have a giant collection of DVDs but now we mostly by Blu-Ray/DVD combo packs with digital download. Then we use the code and upload the videos to Vudu, which we watch every once and awhile. 2. What streaming services do you use the most? We currently have no streaming services but are looking into Hulu Plus. 3. How many DVDs or Blu-Rays do you buy a year on average? 10-20 probably, although this year we haven't bought as many, maybe 8 or so. 4. Do you use a device like Apple TV, Roku, or Chromecast? Nope. 5. How much do you watch videos on YouTube versus all the mediums listed in the poll? I watch YouTube a lot, mostly for coaster videos. Probably more than any of the other mediums.

I loved GateKeeper (it's in my top 20 overall) and I have a good feeling Thunderbird will be even better. The coaster really interacts with the terrain more than the animations made it seem like it would. Can't wait for HoliWood Nights next year! And Paula, will the schedule for the event be released sometime soon? I saw that the flyer is on the website now but there isn't any schedule. Are you guys saving it as a surprise for the event?
