Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread
Woodie Warrior replied to OzCatter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It seems like Valleyfair and WOF are going to be the next smaller CF parks to get a major ride. If you look at both parks' coaster lineup, they're pretty much near-identical: WOF--------------------------------------------------------------Valleyfair Boomerang.................looping cooasters................Corkscrew Cosmic Coaster.............kiddie coasters............Cosmic Coaster Mamba.......................Morgan hypers..................Wild Thing Patriot...........................inverts.....................Steel Venom Prowler.......................GCI woodies.....................Renegade Spinning Dragons...........wild mouse-type................Mad Mouse Timber Wolf...............classic woodies..................High Roller (Valleyfair also has Excalibur) Both parks could use a launched, full circuit coaster, preferably a wing coaster. Both already have inverts (VF's is an Intamin shuttle, but still). VF does seem more likely to get one first, though. -

I don't get the hype for Raptor but in no way is it a rough ride. A little bit of headbanging? Maybe, but nothing like Corkscrew or any other Arrow creation. (And *shocker* you can avoid headbanging by *GASP* leaning your head into the turns!) I'm sure there are people that hate Raptor and Maverick but I don't think it's 50/50. Maybe 90/10. -
Which I'm guessing is about 30 pages long I'm not trying to take a dig at Dave or any of the current management, though. They've managed the park well through the bankruptcy and whatnot, and the current revitalization of different areas of the park is looking really nice. If only corporate would give the parks a bigger maintenance budget, but the chances of that happening soon is very slim. Fun fact: Apparently Dave has been president of the park since 2001, which means Scooby-Doo (which was added in 2002) was one of the first rides he was a part of. With Justice League replacing that this season, it seems like his time at the park has come full circle. If he retires soon (which'll be sad), he should know that the park is in way better shape than it was back then, and he should be very proud.

Most Overrated coaster?
Woodie Warrior replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Banshee- Fun ride, but not that great. I'm not a big fan of inverted coasters in general, though. Dragon Challenge, Raptor- see above Flight of Fear- Terrible ride. The indoor concept is ruined by the fact that the room itself isn't dark at all, and the MCBR makes the second half slow as heck. HellCat (Timber Falls)- Roughest coaster I have ever ridden. Why would they let such a great layout go to waste? -
Anyways... Just got back from my first visit of the season! A few notes: -Fireman's Landing is an awesome replacement for Geyser Gulch. Not only is the play area a huge upgrade, you now have some cool flats and excellent theming as well. Firefall was fun (the airtime seemed a bit underwhelming compared to Liberty Launch @ HW but it was still a decent ride) and it seemed to be very popular. -Outlaw Run continues to be the best coaster ever. Still the smoothest wooden coaster out there, with the some of the most extreme elements I've ever experienced. The one thing I noticed was a terrible jolt at the bottom of the first drop that was only noticeable in the back. Other than that, OR was as great as always. Got 5 rides in 30 mins today, including 2 front row rides. -Powder Keg was fun in the front but I still like the back better. -Flooded Mine seems to have rumors floating around about its demise... I don't know, I read about some boats being taken off, but that doesn't hint at anything to me- the boats were still coming in one after another, so I don't think the capacity's been reduced. It still seems popular with guests, and I don't think it is in a location that really needs any huge addition. -Gosh I love this park. I'm so glad it's a mere 4 hours from me, I can't wait for Christmas. Edit: I didn't want to get involved but... The food at SDC is cheaper (and better) than any other parks I've been to. $6 for a burger and fries is better than even some fast food joints. $10 for a buffet is a great deal as well. At every amusement park I've been to I've seen kids being told not to run. It's a big rule that helps the park prevent injuries. Same with the staying on the rides rule. Most parks don't allow it. Outlaw Run deserves the hype it gets. Wildfire and Powder Keg are both great, and Thunderation is very good for a mine train. I do agree about the flats, though. Giant Swing and the yoyo both has short cycles this visit. Although Electro Spin ran for a good 2-3 minutes. -SDC isn't "overpriced". The tickets are nearly the same price as any other park in the region. -The shows at SDC are all very good. Both the saloon show and the GAC Nights show (and I don't even really like country music) are fantastic. The two Christmas shows are even better.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

To me it just looks like someone took half of a giant corkscrew, and mixed it with half of an inline twist. That may be the case, but it still looks awesome. -

Wow. The first element on that coaster looks freaking awesome. Even if it wasn't on a dive coaster, I'd love to see an element like that built one day. -
I'd actually vote Boomerang. It's not a great ride by any means, but I do like the first drop. If anything, it did bring some new life to that area with it's bright green and orange colors sprawling out over the pathway. It does LOOK like a great ride. Visually, it's a big improvement over the run down bumper car building.

West Coast Bash 2015!
Woodie Warrior replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm guessing he meant ERT, but I'm not sure. In that case, ERT= exclusive ride time. Basically you ride the rides before the park opens or after the park closes. -
Maverick vs Millennium Force
Woodie Warrior replied to ImNotOneOfYou's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Are long straightaways more your thing? I'll take Maverick's trimmed hill after the launch over Millennium Force's dud of a finale. Hmm, didn't know an airtime hill into a tight overbank counts as a long straightaway. -
Eh. Justice League is a great ride but it isn't groundbreaking. Spider-Man at IoA is still a far better attraction. The Triotech rides are both huge let downs IMO. Iron Reef was actually really good and I enjoyed WMG very much especially with the surprise drop track. Even so, I wouldn't use "groundbreaking" to describe them. They're essentially cheaper versions of Toy Story Mania with half-baked theming.

What is your next park?

Headed out to Silver Dollar City this weekend. So lucky to be a mere 4 hours from my favorite park. I need me some Outlaw Run goodness. -
Maverick vs Millennium Force
Woodie Warrior replied to ImNotOneOfYou's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Millennium Force for me. Maverick is still my #2 steel coaster, though. I just feel like Maverick has some awkward parts in the layout (such as a launch right into a long stretch of trims), but it does have better airtime than MF, so it's close. -

Even though WoF doesn't have EPCOT level theming, the theming it does have is well done and charming. There are a few very generic areas of the park though (such as Mamba plaza), but for the most part the park has far more charm than any other CF or SF park. Although I see that concept art and I'm wondering how much more charming the park must've been in the past. -

Just wanting to make sure: Club TPR is an accepted club for Coaster Mayhem, correct?
