  1. That is correct. They sold 1000 tickets total for the event, and it sold out quickly. I watched the website daily. And a big thanks to David for posting here when tickets went on sale.
  2. The biggest issue with an Africa entrance would be parking. It would be very easy from that entrance to either park, which would make it ideal. So everyone would want to park over there, and there just isn't that much space. And yes I realize that you can enter OOF and go through there to Africa, buy it is a bit of a hike. An entrance next to Mamba would be much less walking and therefore more desirable. Its plaza would make a good entrance though, aesthetically speaking.
  3. Outlaw Run has several: - First wooden coaster with a barrel roll - First wooden coaster with multiple inversions - First RMC built from the ground up - First coaster to use RMC's Topper Track
  4. It was a dark and stormy night. And I rode the Beast.
  5. I'm at Highland Morning on Bardstown Road in Louisville Kentucky. About 15 minutes from Kentucky Kingdom and an amazing breakfast. Three words: Banana split grits.
  6. Yeah, I get that. $10 for a beer isn't worth it, but $10 for an experience is. If it's part of the experience for you, go for it.
  7. Thank you both for the good information. I'm leaving right after work today, getting very excited for the trip now!
  8. Excellent, thank you! I'll be going right through GRR, so I'll have to try Founder's Brewery. Looks good!
  9. Ok, so if lines aren't too bad on the dry side, Fast Lane wouldn't affect the day that much. That was the thought, poorly stated though it was, to speed up that half and buy waterpark time. I'm going mostly for Shivering Timbers, and I think I've decided to do Wolverine Wildcat and ST first. I'm wondering maybe duck over to the waterpark then? The question is really about quality, which is something I can't get on the park's website. Other than WW, ST, and Hydroblaster, everything else is a ride type I've been on before. So, since they won't be new experiences, I want to know which rides have good experiences. I'm not looking just to tick a box. My first inclination was just to do Hydroblaster and not bother with the waterpark at all. But since then I've heard people praising it. So I guess I'm asking what in the waterpark is good enough that it shouldn't be missed?
  10. All right. I had thought for sure Storm Chaser would need to be first, but if that's how it is, I can wait. I'm not planning to stay all the way until closing. I'll leave probably around 6 so I can drive to Kings Island and ride Beast. With Coastermania starting early on Friday, I'm going to have to leave KI before dark on Thursday to drive to Sandusky, which means Wed night is the only opportunity to ride Beast in the dark. Priorities.
  11. Yeah, about $10. I keep thinking, "Or, I could go get a six pack of something good for that price after we leave...." And that line of thinking always wins.
  12. I feel like everyone missed this question. I'll be there on Saturday 6/4. I do enjoy waterparks, but I'll also be going to Kentucky Kingdom on this same trip. I've heard very good things about MiA's waterpark, though, and I would buy a Fast Lane if the waterpark is good enough to justify the cost. I only have the one day, and Shivering Timbers is the priority for me that day. So what in the waterpark would be good enough to justify the cost of a Fast Lane?
  13. I'll be at KK on Wednesday. What order would you say is best for getting on all 5 coasters, plus Deluge and Deep Water Dive?
  14. They do serve beer, you just can't leave the bar with it. It's available at Chickie's and Pete's, and at Battle Creek Barbecue. Boulevard Brewing Co. is KC's local mezzobrewery, and they make a huge number of seasonal and year-round varieties. They're most known for their unfiltered wheat, which is quite good and I believe on tap at both locations, if I'm not mistaken. Pehw, and that sounds awesome. I'm a huge fan of hefe-weiss. Thank's for the info. Isn't Chickie's just by the bottle? There is draft beer on the porch at Battlecreek Yeah, I know Battle Creek does. I thought C&P does too, but I could be wrong about that. I've only been in there once, and I'm too much of a cheapskate to buy beer at theme parks.
  15. I'm sure there are quite a few on these boards as well. It's best not to offend anyone. I'm glad you had fun at SDC. Did you do the cave tour? It's pretty neat and it offers nice break from the coasters. I feel like the park is missing out on some delicious craft beer sales to compliment the BBQ. The lack of responsibly sold alcohol at SDC and DW is a literal buzz kill for me. I wasn't aware SDC didn't sell alcohol. Its been quite a while since I've been though. Pssst. Two words. BIBLE. BELT. Bible Belt and no drinking do not share synonymous meanings to me, since I was raised Catholic. I didn't say "Catholic" Belt. This is hardcore Baptist country. Eh, it's about 45/45 Baptist and Assemblies of God. The world headquarters of the Assemblies of God, or as we locals call it, the "Blue Mecca," is located in downtown Springfield. SDC is associated with the Presbyterian Church--but all three of those are teetotaler groups. Honestly, it's not worth it to them to serve beer; more people around here would be offended by it than would enjoy it.
  16. If it closes, it's totally because of conditions underground. The cave routinely floods; it's just a matter of whether the rain above ground will affect the water table enough to be dangerous. An inch of rain over a large enough area can raise the water level in the cave by several feet. Depends as much on where it rains as it does on how much. Some rain runs off into the cave, and other goes into the White River. SDC has a good idea of how it works. They've been in the cave tour business longer than the theme park business.
  17. Rain won't typically cancel a cave tour. They have a flood route that bypasses the passage to the waterfall room and instead gives you a view of the waterfall from higher up. It can flood that room about 20 feet or so and the tours go on. I've only seen tours cancelled a couple of times ever, and that's been when we've had about a foot of rain in a week.
  18. Okay, so it's similar then, unknown to the culture at large. We have a lot of mythological creatures, some of which are very well known to the culture at large. Hydra, Phoenix, and Griffon are very good names for roller coasters, because the creatures are familiar and terrifying. At the same time, I'm not holding my breath for a ride called Amphisbaena. It seems to me that this whole Ziz thing is just the product of an echo chamber. One person who is into mythology mentioned it and others have latched on to it, because it just makes too much sense not to be true. From a marketing perspective, the name Ziz just sucks. That's the most compelling argument for why this isn't going to happen.
  19. Is Ziz well known to Canadians? Here in the States, Leviathan and Behemoth are well known, but Ziz is extremely obscure. Literally the only time I've ever heard the name is on this site, in connection with the rumored coaster.
  20. By that logic, Lightning Rod isn't late, because they only ever advertised it as opening Spring 2016. We still have 3 weeks of spring left.
  21. I still maintain that sideways air is the very best.
  22. Only if you want re-rides or if you want to ride some of the flats as well. If you don't get the Fast Lane, I'd recommend doing this order: Patriot, Prowler, Boomerang if you want to, Mamba, Timberwolf, then Cosmic Coaster if you gotta catch 'em all, and Spinning Dragons last. The closer to midnight, the shorter the lines for the kids' coasters will be.
  23. This probably will change after I ride the lovely Ohio Arrows next week, but for many years it's been Orient Express. My favourite Arrow still running would be for the moment Thunderation. But I'm eyeing Magnum, Gemini, and Bat as worthy contenders to that title....
