  1. You mean the back stretch leading from Tidal Wave to the Screaming Eagle? I like Sky Screamer and Superman. Other park goers seem to like Boomerang during the full week of its operating season. That section of the park is definitely not missing any draw. Anytime I'm in that section of the park there is always a lot of people around, most of them clustered around Superman and Boomerang. The only section of the park missing a draw is over by Ninja and Joker. There is usually a small group of people by Joker but outside of that the area is a ghost town. Yeah and once they get Fireball up and running, you'll see people there too. Illinois has gotten most of the new rides this decade. Agreed on the Ninja dead end, and I'm still beating the drum of replace it with a new compact yet exciting coaster. Don't care if it's Wonder Woman, Joker, Sky Rocket II, whatever.
  2. Nitro is every bit the equivalent of Diamondback, just without a splashdown, and that doesn't really affect the ride. You'll love it.
  3. Fantastic, you'll have a good time then. You'll want to spend way more time in DL than DCA. I used roughly this plan, although I'll update for a couple of changes since then (also assuming Pixar Pier will be open when you're going; it opens June 23, not sure when in June your trip is): DCA at opening - Get Guardians of the Galaxy Fastpass, single rider Radiator Springs Racers - Go on Guardians of the Galaxy - Get Toy Story Fastpass, standby Mickey's Fun Wheel - Single rider Incredicoaster - Go on Toy Story - Get Soarin' Fastpass, go on Grizzly Rapids - Go on Soarin' - Leave for Disneyland DL: - Get Haunted Mansion Fastpass - Go on Splash Mountain - Go on Pirates of the Caribbean - Go on Haunted Mansion - Get Big Thunder Mountain Fastpass - Go on Toad's Wild Ride and Peter Pan's Flight - Go on Big Thunder Mountain - Get Space Mountain Fastpass - Go on Star Tours - Single rider Matterhorn - Go on Space Mountain Pick either World of Color or fireworks for your final show. Eat before the parks open (Tortilla Joe's has a great breakfast burrito) and then after they close. You may pick up something quick if you see no line, but keep moving. Maybe you get to a bit more, depends on other factors. Basically have the Fastpass for the big attraction going at all times. You can even get the new one once the timestamp for your old one is up. For example, if you have a Haunted Mansion return time of 11:30-12:30, then at 11:30 you can grab a Big Thunder Mountain at 11:30. With Maxpass, you can even do this without going over to the ride physically, so get Maxpass. It's $10. Do it.
  4. Disneyland is a different sort of park. I did both in one day, but to answer your questions, I'll need to know your priorities. What are your favourite Disney movies? That is an absolutely essential question to your enjoyment of these parks.
  5. Fun video. I love the disclaimer for Lightning Rod. You totally could have done better than they did.
  6. That's really interesting about the temperature changes. I hadn't noticed, but when I went, it was already cool and rainy. Still hopefully going to make it out this year, aiming for August once I'm out of training for my new job.
  7. Add Thunderhawk at Michigan's Adventure, and that is a complete list of all non-awful SLC's. The thing is, the layout is fantastic, so any of them that don't beat you up are actually fun.
  8. ^^ Ha, how fun. After many attempts to get my old lawn mower working, I gave up. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. I am now embracing the 21st century with this battery powered model here: It's a Ryobi, and they start at $270. I got the one with the 20 inch deck as opposed to the standard 16 and is self propelled as well, for $399. Took it out for a spin last night after charging the battery, and I'm impressed. Cuts as well as my old Craftsman gas powered did, and it's super quiet. I can listen to music while mowing now. It's also super lightweight; a lot of it can be made of plastic, since no liquid hydrocarbons are being exploded inside it. The 21st century is great.
  9. I believe you. I remember thinking "this is like a smaller Screamin' Eagle" and really enjoying it. Weird that it would be so different 1 year later to the day.
  10. Possible it was worse that day for some reason, or that it just affected you differently.
  11. SDC this weekend. My wife's work has an evening ERT buyout, so.... NIGHT RIDES ON TIME TRAVELER!!!
  12. I don't know, I liked both of those. Neither is close to the best in their park, but Blue Streak's better than Corkscrew at least, and Wildcat's better than Sidewinder. T3 can go die in a fire. Especially since it has 2 neighbours in the Top 25 steel.
  13. Don't judge Time Traveler on videos alone. There's really nothing else like it.
  14. Probably not super light crowds but you should get through everything easily enough. To give you an idea, we were there this past Sunday and the longest wait was 35 for Justice League and Namtab. Nothing else was more than 20, and we walked on to American Thunder, Screamin' Eagle, Log Flume, and Thunder Rapids. Skip Boomerang and Ninja, they're terrible. If you feel you must ride them, make them last so if you run out of time you miss out on a crappy coaster. Personally I feel your time is better spent on Freeze or any of the woodies though. Terrain is decently flat (well, for Missouri) in the front of the park, but gets steep toward the back. Unlike SDC, I never see too many wheelchairs in use here, so you're probably ok to feel it out. Speaking of which, go ahead and plan for an electric wheelchair at SDC and get it right away before they sell out. You'll be glad you did.
  15. After dark you can't even see the track. It gets really, really dark in those woods. Kings Island is in a suburb, but right on the edge of the urbanized area, maybe a mile or two from where it dissolves into farmland. Once you're out there, you just feel the wind and can't tell which way is what. The sensory deprivation focuses your attention in a way that is completely relaxing. There's nothing else like it. Don't expect to compare it to any other coaster. There can be only one Beast.
  16. Unacceptable. Go listen to this entire playlist and I expect a full report when you're done.
  17. A couple of great reports! Yeah, I love the lines for everything else just after a new coaster opens. That does even out over time, but while it lasts, ride a really great older coaster as much as you want!
  18. Great report. Very cool to see parks from (for me) very far away. Looks like it's a worthwhile place, if I ever go to NZ.
  19. Well it’s not the same shape. I don’t think they would retro fit track sections lol Its really not that hard. I'm sure the track sections are interchangeable to change the layout. Even if not, they could just fabricate new channels for the boats and recycle the boats and props. Yeah, Dollywood screwed up and accidentally pressed the Delete Ride button instead of Delete Section. Fortunately they got a floaty number that automatically deposited money back in their account, so they'll be plopping a new one down soon.
  20. 1995-2017: Got married. Got into whitewater kayaking, recording live music shows and a few other hobbies. Had a kid. 2017: Divorced for 4 years. My 15YO called me one day and said she had just been to Carowinds, had a blast and wanted to go back. I suggested KD and BGW since I never went to those as a kid and they had commercials on our local TV station all the time. We rode Dominator first and I was hooked. It was a Proustian moment, for sure. Then we did Volcano and I305 and I realized coasters had changed a lot in 22 years. Two weeks later we had Platinum Cedar Fair passes and SF Gold passes. We went to Dollywood and SFOG in November. We are taking two ten-day trips this summer hitting 14 new to us parks and possibly over 100 new coasters. The bug has bitten hard! We are only an hour and a half from Carowinds so we can go there anytime we like. KD is only three hours so it may get a few visits this year as well. I totally understand this story. I got out of coasters in 2007. I got married, had a kid, and my life went in a different direction. In 2012 we brought my daughter to SDC during my wife's work picnic event, and she loved it. That's what got me back into theme parks. Not as much time, granted, but I get you. Your kids can sometimes show you something you love.
  21. Prince Coaster is looking sexy as hell.
  22. Wait, has that always been the name of their Scrambler? How did I not know this? New favorite ride name. It was originally the Saskatchewan Scrambler, but I agree, the new name is awesome.
