Weird Coaster Facts
JonnyRCT3 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
However you look at it, the track was re-designed to lessen the G forces, we at least know that much. I've always found the increased radius to be a bit of a stretch. Due to how the new track utilizes the same footprint as the original. -

I've already have everything planned. -I didn't want to have a really long station. -I could not find one working link after literally 30+ minutes of searching I saw this coming!!! Hopefully the park will get things worked out, and get this ride up and running!! Can't wait to see more! Thank you! Most likely. They are both intamin impulses Dschu is correct. This is just a new version of the inverted impulse, and Wicked Twister didn't open until 2002. -

^Something was off, or else there wouldn't have been a re-profile. -

I think the park wanted to go for something a bit more original. The ride is inspired from Mega-Lites & Maverick, so the high speed turn only makes sense. Although their calculations were a bit off. -

I've never been on one. But seeing how it is a drop ride, it should provide zero gravity. -

Yes! I can also tell which park a commercial was filmed in. It annoys me when I see multiple rides from different parks merged into one commercial. Lies! -

This isn't necessarily weird, but neat. Intimidator 305's radius was not widened, just the rate of rise was changed. Originally, the track level stayed uniform (about 2 meters) until it turned approximately 180°. That was where the track would begin to rise upwards. The solution to the problem was to begin raising the track at 90° instead of 180°. This reduced the amount of time the high G forces were sustained while also enabling the re-profile to re-use the original footers, saving on cost. Neat! One the original POV, the track doesn't begin to rise until support #17. On the new POV, the track begins to rise around support #14. Check it out. -

Saturday, May 19, 2001 Tom Keystone - local enthusiast The off-season has come and gone, and I could finally get my hands on Six Flags Valley Hills's TWO new roller coasters. Superman: Ultimate Escape! The worlds tallest & fastest inverted roller coaster! The rides station is right over the creek, just like Black Stallion's maintenance bay. These powerful Linear Induction Motors propel the train out of the station at speeds of up to 71 mph! Twisting up the forward spike was one of the most frightening experiences. It seems as if the coaster is going to fly right off the tracks. Special Note: The towers had a very noticeable sway when the train traversed them. A lot of the GP, myself included, found this quite odd. After flying with the man of steel, Déjà Vu was next on my itinerary. Unfortunately my worst fear came true. Déjà Vu's opening has been delayed due to mechanical issues. This was a HUGE bummer, as I was really anticipating riding both Superman & Déjà Vu. With Déjà Vu's closure putting a big damper on my mood, I got on the Valley lift and headed over to Batman: The Ride. I can always count on B&M to be reliable. This is something I find quite odd; Six Flags Valley Hills now has three inverted roller coasters; Batman: The Ride, Déjà Vu, and Superman: Ultimate Escape. Along with three drop rides; Towering Inferno, ZER0, and Frog Hopper. Three times the charm! Apple Twists has been relocated to Camp Looney Tunes in order to make way for Superman: UE. I prefer the more tranquil scenery provided by the back of the park, than the hectic busy environment by the entrance. While credit whoring in Camp Looney Tunes I was lucky enough to catch a few test runs of Déjà Vu . It wasn't much, but at least I was able to see it in action. By around 5 pm I got back in line for Superman. Crowds were awfully heavy for this time of year. This may turn out to be the busiest season on record. Artsy fartsy. This time I rode Superman: UE in the back, and this is by far my favorite seat. Watching the ground warp around you, and then pausing for a brief second of weightlessness is an experience like no other. The spiraling free-fall down the tower is just as good. Beautiful heartline! Another (sad) look at a missed credit. All I can do is hope it will be up and running by my next visit. I'm counting on you Six Flags! Two trains, one shot. Score! This concludes part 1 of my 2001 Photo TR. My next visit will be in three weeks, hopefully Déjà Vu will be open by then. -Tom Keystone -

Yes, that was the idea. Thank you. I try and mix in-game scenery with CS, and not rely too much on one type. Prepare yourself for even more. I thought this park could use a coaster package, especially when considering what SF was doing around this time period. Sounds about right to me!! -

I know it's just Wikipedia, but Wicked Twister is stated to pull 2.1 Gs. Having ridden in the back many times I find this figure a bit of an understatement. -

^It's Six Flags. Do we need any other excuse? -
They're designed differently to intentionally give different ride experiences. MF & I305 become g steeper and steeper the farther you drop. Creating that extra sense of thrill (a never-ending drop). As opposed to being whipped over the top with a standard free-fall that seems less intense due to former. Goliath's drop will be similar to traditional RCM drops (NTG, iRAT) - wheres the backseat might provide a good whip.

^The right crane will probably be used to stabilize the crown while the left crane installs the final section(s). Typical practice in roller coaster construction. Hardly though, since they slowed it down a few years ago. No more speed than a lift can give you! (Unless you count Iron Rattler or Goliath/Titan...those things slow to a crawl!) It's more efficient if the speed is low because the train can reach a steeper vertical angle within the vertical clearance.

Banshee reminds me of Tatsu. Tatsu is a terrain-based coaster, as is Banshee. Tatsu ends with a large pretzel-loop, in-line roll, and carousel before exiting the cliff. Banshee has a large batwing, followed by a carousel, and in-line roll before exiting the cliff/hill. Both took a rather bland concept (flying coasters / forceless inverts) and turned them into something extraordinary. Terrain coasters are B&Ms calling! -

Steel Venom, along with all other impulses, need to have a second vertical twist. Especially since almost all of the holding brakes have gone extinct. -

Tuesday, August 1, 2000 Max Sherman - intern Max Sherman here today. I'm a newly hired intern here at Six Flags Valley Hills. I have been following this blog for months and jumped at the first opportunity I had to run this blog (temporarily). Anyways, today's post will be a blast from the past! Many of you may already know of the famous Sun Spin attraction. It has been at the Valley for quite some time now. Here is a little behind the scenes look of the ride. Sun Spin opened to the public on May 10, 1985 as part of Valley Hills final year of the redevelopment process. The ride was announced February 3rd, 1985 for an estimated cost of $400,000 USD. Ground clearing began in March, and was done within an hour. After about two days of site prep the foundations were poured. The ride was erected in less than seven days, with testing beginning eight days later. All-in-all, Sun Spin was completed in less than a month. Sun Spin is decorated with over 500 LED lights, and has been providing thrills for over a decade. Anyways, well ermmm.... I'm not supposed to say this but Six Flags Valley Hills has recently re-launched their website. It can be found here; WWW.SIXFLAGSVALLEYHILLS.COM Apparently, this isn't the only thing they've been keeping under wraps....
