I305 is definitely my favorite night ride, especially during the Haunt. The intensity and speed is incredible. Verbolten gets a prize for having the biggest contrast between daytime and night rides. At night, everything just flows so much better between the outdoor and indoor sections, and of course it feels faster. My favorite ride on it was at night during Christmas Town with the trees lit up across the Rhine River from the drop.

What is the worst B&M/intamin/GCI
Oryp replied to christianscoasters's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
B&M - Apocalypse at SFA (with a shoutout to Vortex at Carowinds) Intamin - S:ROS at SFA (mostly because I can see how good it could have been. Also, those trains are the worst.) GCI - Roar at SFA Wow I actually didn't even realize that my least favorite 3 are all at the same park until I put them all down. Yes, I have been to many other parks, just in case you're wondering . -

Knoebels Discussion Thread
Oryp replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm really excited for them, and hope it opens by the end of the year. As others said, the fact that the trains are painted and look ready to go is a great sign. I spoke to Mr. John Fetterman a few years ago and he said he rode it, and it was a blast and was very disorienting. -
I've always unbuckled the belt on the brake run without issue. I know Griffon has a recording telling you to.

Have you ever been on a coaster in the rain?
Oryp replied to socalMAN123's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My first time on Dominator at KD was the last day of the season in mostly rain with some freezing rain/sleet mixed in. Hurt a lot and my face was so red afterwards, but it was great! Also had a ride like Mike514x's but on Griffon (it may have been the same day, who knows? Was it last summer?). A drizzle when I got on was a downpour when I reached the top. Completely soaked by the drop, and it didn't let up the whole ride. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

While at SFA, someone asked their friend if Batwing was open right when a train full of riders was coming down the first drop.... -
Better Theming or More Track
Oryp replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Although I love themed rides such as RotM and others, there's a reason they don't crack my top 10. Can't beat rides like El Toro and I305. That said, I prefer great rides that at least look nice, like Dominator at KD where they landscaped the former parking lot. -
The NL/NL2 Preview Thread
Oryp replied to mcjaco's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Looks nice! The first drop and loop are quite similar to the one I'm working on now. A Gatekeeper-inspired B&M invert. All 3ds except the pavement and fences are original (and have no texture because I only have the free version of Sketchup). -
[NL] Intamin LSM Coaster
Oryp replied to Oryp's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
iSpeed was definitely an inspiration for the ride. Now that the video's up, what do you think of the trackwork? Here are some more pics. EDIT: Forgot to mention, everything is hand built, including supports. TWISTY! Horseshoe Roll -
Here is an Intamin LSM coaster I've been working on recently. I feel that I'm still pretty early in the NL learning curve, but I'm coming along. Any advice before I finish it up? The launch and brake fin 3ds is not mine. Layout Artsy sunset shot POV: [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]EDIT: Changed video from private.

Which Coaster Gives The Best AIRTIME???
Oryp replied to Crazy4Coasters!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just got back from Dollywood, and Thunderhead delivers sweet, sweet airtime at every transition and hill, and never lets up. However, I have to give my vote to El Toro, with Phoenix in a close second. -
Six Flags Mexico (SFM) Discussion Thread
Oryp replied to zburns999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm just reading this thread for the first time now. I had hoped that this would make its way to SFA, seeing as they are lacking a good family steel coaster. I know it was unlikely that it would happen just one year after Apocalypse, but I can dream, right? Anyways, I'm impressed with how fast this went up. I do enjoy these rides quite a bit, they're always good fun. -
Wood: El Toro for me, hands down (or hands up... ) Steel: I305 (sans trims, of course), especially at night. The fact that you're already moving at a decent rate, and the angle and length of the drop make it one of the best anywhere. Random: I love Alpengeist's first drop so much. It seems to take forever to drop, and the sense of speed is incredible flying through the valley. Honorable mentions: Maverick and Fahrenheit. I really wanted to include Dare Devil Dive, but the heavy brakes going over the crest killed it for me. Still a good drop, but not nearly as intense as it could have been. I can't wait to get on Mystery Mine to try out another Eurofighter.

Knoebels' food is always awesome, as is BGW's. The all-you-can-eat buffet at BGW isn't actually that expensive, and the food is pretty good. If there aren't a lot of people in your group, it isn't much of a wallet-breaker. Plus, it's fun spraying people on the neighboring rapids ride between plates!

Ever Been The Only One On A Ride?
Oryp replied to greatamerica1990sfan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^My story also is at Kings Dominion. My sister and I were at the park, and we were taking laps on Volcano to close out the night. We ended up getting the last ride of the night in the front seat, with nobody else on the train, resulting in the fastest and most incredible ride I've had on Volcano. We flew through the whole course. -
What's your closest coaster?

My closest is Batwing at SFA. Someday I hope to change this... -
Best Coaster Layouts
Oryp replied to Randomman295's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Although I've never ridden it, and probably never will, Mountain Flyer at Knight Valley has a sweet layout that uses the terrain well. Unfortunately, Google Maps doesn't have the highest quality image for this part of China. Also, I love Maverick's layout. It progresses from the turns and twisties, to a sweet combination of airtime followed by inversions in the twisted horseshoe roll. Then the climax of the launch and quick turns, and the incredible finish of back-to-back stengel dives. There's a reason it sits at #3 on my list. -
Most Attractive Roller Coaster Elements
Oryp replied to MontagnaMagica's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Lightning Racer lit up at night has to be my favorite. (photo credit to our very own coastersrule85) I have always loved Talon's helix over the midway. Maverick's Stengel Dive is awesome as well. (I got the last 2 pictures from RCDB, but there are credits in the photos themselves.) -
Most Attractive Roller Coaster Elements
Oryp replied to MontagnaMagica's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^That's actually not the flying snake dive. This is: Photo from RCDB. However, I must say that the seemingly-misshapen immelmann is pretty sweet looking as well. -
Which Coaster Gives The Best AIRTIME???
Oryp replied to Crazy4Coasters!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
El Toro's Rolling Thunder hill takes the cake (as evidenced by the location on my profile...) Runners up: The double-up, double-down on Phoenix I305's first hill simply for how long it sustains the strong negatives. The airtime hill on Maverick before the horseshoe roll, because it caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting such a strong hill. I'm not sure it counts as one hill, but Wild One at SFA's double-up, turnaround, double-down combo makes for some sweet airtime. -
I second all of the ones already mentioned. Expedition Everest and Spaceship Earth are also pretty high on the list for me. I like Rock n Roller coaster and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as well.

What is the best coaster in your home park?
Oryp replied to MattJackson's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I305! Technically, SFA is closer, but I've been going to KD since I was very, very young. -

I'm not sure if anybody has said this, but I suppose you could say the first drop and Immelman make up the world's largest Norwegian Loop Anyways, this ride looks incredible! I hope to get back to the park in the next 3 or 4 years, when the lines for this will be shorter...
