  1. "Any idea if they have plans to get the monorail going again?" (WillMontu) At the TPR event last month, Tim Burkhart told me that there were too many obstacles to doing that. I think accessability for handicapped visitors was one of them. If you're able to come to West Coast Bash, I'm sure you can find out more. Eric
  2. Knott's is going to do it now, and they used to do it...what happened during the years in between? SFMM never had such an event till a few years back, and now they're kicking it into high gear. Let's hope that in the years to come we'll see even greater things out at SFMM. I think we will, and I'm really looking forward to attending my first West Coast Bash. Eric
  3. "Isn't the monorail the fastest at like 55mph or something?" (Gnome) No, the monorail doesn't top 25 or 30 mph, though it is capable of doing so. Splash Mountain's logs reach a speed of about 40 mph going down the last drop. Neither of the coasters tops 30 mph to my knowledge.
  4. ^ Just paint it red---it'll fade to pink in a few years on its own. Eric
  5. My father-in-law's company did some of the work on the water system on Disneyland's Splash Mountain. Disney originally wanted to use an off-the-shelf ride system from O.D. Hopkins, but discovered that you can't build a non-standard flume ride out of standard flume ride components. The original plans called for the use of driftwood for the logs since it floats better. Splash Mountain is the fastest ride at Disneyland. Most of the above items are true, but there might be a lie somewhere in there. Eric
  6. ^ Flashback is completely gone, and Freefall may be. The last I heard, there was still a bit of Freefall left. ^^ Allen, Gold Rusher was red only in its first year (1971). The following year, it was painted an orangey yellow and has been almost the same color since (some variations with subsequent paint jobs). Eric
  7. I got an e-mail today from our local ACE rep...apparently Knott's is going to add a "behind-the-walls" tour of Pony Express at Solace. Have they been reading Internet forums? Eric
  8. Scream! at SFMM has a nasty vibration at the bottom of the first drop and heading up into the loop. However, I've heard that a track piece was dropped during construction, and it got dinged just enough to cause that. That could just be a rumor, though. Eric
  9. Of course. I was around when he was first baked! Do you donate blood, or would you if you never have?
  10. ^ I went to parks with Moses, so how old do you think I am? I wonder if any ride manufacturers have considered putting a sensor inside the OTSR so the computer is notified that there is a body behind it, and not just a seat. Could be done. But of course manually checking restraints is a good idea as well because as we all know, electronic and mechanical things do fail... Eric
  11. I think the overall look of the ride is better without the pre-drop. It's more traditional. Eric
  12. November 2006. Needless to say, it was my last day there. When was the last time you walked to school?
  13. ^ With all the coaster boys around here, the ratio is in your favor! But one comment you made, timberskara, is dead on: "you shouldn't hold out for someone who exactly shares every one of your interests." When you have different interests, it gives you additional stuff to talk about. It wouldn't matter how much I loved anyone, I wouldn't want to do everything exactly the same. You do need time apart---that makes the time you are together more refreshing. Eric
  14. "I hate people that think when they walk up the esclator, everyone else should step aside." (mcjaco) Those are the same ones who get on the freeway and want everyone else out of "their" way. Eric
  15. Three years already...and they've done a good job potty training it. Eric
  16. Sure, it's good for you, too. If someone shouted "ISUZU!!!" would you shout "GESUNDHEIT?" Eric
  17. Too many people would mistake them for underwater school buses. Why is Coke so bad for your teeth?
  18. With regard to some people, I've often said that if they ever got a bit smarter, they'd move up to "stupid." Eric
  19. Whenver I go out in back and do some trainwatching---which is often. When was the last time you had sushi?
  20. "Plus they showed old Disneyland shows. So much better than the shows on the channel now." (YoshiFan) I miss seeing the old Mickey Mouse Club episodes. But, unfortunately, The Disney Channel has to keep up with the times. Today's young 'uns don't relate to the old stuff. Where are they putting this "House of the Future?" Eric
  21. No, I'll just wait awhile till the crowds die down. Would you like fries with that?
  22. ^ Can't have a job of beauty pageant winner. < Did get a job as a tech writer/CAD guy. V Did get a job as a diaper tester!
  23. And just like that [snaps fingers] everyone gets a Twinkie. Eric
  24. As long as they can put trash cans every 17 feet, it's a good idea. I had a burger for lunch; would one be a good idea for dinner?
  25. ^ Start saving stuff now, and 20 or 30 years from now you'll have quite a collection. Eric
