They could have used Roman numerals, but then some people might start calling it "12." Eric

Been awhile---and I don't miss it. When was the last time you rode a skateboard?

Six Flags Magic Mountain Mark Shapiro Interview
ebl replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A smaller coaster can be just a simple, fun ride. We don't always need record breaking or unique rides. Remember that just because another park has one, not a lot of people are going to know that and it will be "new" for them. Eric -

Nostra-dumbass again, huh? I'll listen to him the day my diabetes goes away. Of course, I'm sure he can predict what that'll be... Eric

Septics? Leave our plumbing out of this... Anyway, I don't care much for soccer, football, whatever you call it. So cheers to whichever team wins, and better luck next time to the other guys. Eric

^^ Everyone I know is sick---except me for some reason. And, I printed a $1 off coupon for a Carl's Jr. Chili Cheeseburger. I will get it this week and order it with bacon if they can do it. Eric

Yes, I have to. If I don't do something sketchy, my friends worry and call 911. Have you ever gone past a park and could have stopped in but didn't? Eric

So, they're upgrading this ride from Ghetto Scream! to Rockin' Scream! OK, good improvement. Yes sir, this park is on its way up! I was in the Valley earlier. Maybe I should have dropped by the park, but I wasn't really feeling up to it. It's going to be cool seeing all that old stuff in the Sky Tower Museum. I'll probably remember it from when it was new. "It's called X2 (two). Mark Shapiro said so." (knottslover77) So who's Mark Shapiro, some bigshot or something? Eric

I really enjoyed the Intamin tower information, as towers are one of my favorite attractions at parks. I wonder how many people know that SFMM's Sky Tower really was destined to be a Playboy Club (hence the wording on it in the brochure) in Chicago (I think) before that deal fell through and the tower was made available to Sea World/Newhall Land and Farming Co. when Magic Mountain was on the drawing boards? Interesting, also, is the fact that Intamin apparently offered the combination parachute and observation tower, but so far only Knott's ordered one (that I know of). Eric -
Yes, if he's conducting the Electric Light Orchestra! Do you usually go to bed on a full stomach?

"45 minutes ERT on the Ultimate" (mardy) So, given the slow lift hills, you rode it, what, once? I've never ridden The Ultimate, but have heard tales. Until I read the post about it having OTSRs, I'd forgotten that it originally did---and could never figure out why because there aren't any inversions. Clearly, this ride was built simply for its record breaking length---and nothing else. Eric

Flywheel shuttles > weight drop shuttle. That's one of the reasons I've always liked Montezooma's Revenge. Eric -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Mark Shapiro Interview

I just had a thought: Did they paint these chairs with the new 15-year paint? If not, they should! Think of how much longer they could go without repainting! Seriously, though, I didn't listen to the interview, but I'll say once again that I'm looking forward to the direction SFMM takes in the years to come. It will finally become the park it should always have been! About the clone issue...I wish people would get off of that. When will you "clone haters" realize that the parks are built for the enjoyment of the general public---most of whom know absolutely nothing about similar rides in other parks. Sorry to get...huffy...but even as an enthusiast, I have no problems with the same ride being at different parks. If it's a good ride, then who cares? Eric -
I've been to Florida in July (hot and humid) and in October (much more bearable---almost as nice as Southern California where I live). Better to go in October. Also, that's when the International Food & Wine Festival is going on at Epcot. Think CHOUP!!! Think October. Eric

^ I believe that the old Enterprise at SFMM was a Schwarzkopf ride. Also, I think Sierra Twist is a Schwarzkopf Bayencurve. Eric -
Pics of Northern CA Theme Parks in 1979
ebl replied to Melonballer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thank you, Melonballer! This was great stuff! I never did go to Marine World when it was in Redwood City, but I did go to Great America for the first time in November 1978. It's too bad that the train and Willard's Whizzer are both gone (I think SFGAm in Illinois still has both). That flat ride, Triple Play, was fun. Guess it's gone now. My last visit was in October 1999, and I don't know when I'll get back. Maybe for the opening of the new woodie in 2009. Eric -
