  1. ^ Giving Flashback's former site up for a Hurricane Harbor expansion makes sense, but to my knowledge, nothing is definite. Eric
  2. ^ I would guess "yes" to that. Eric
  3. Never. I get home before they do! Have you gotten a new 2009 penny in change yet? (That's the one with Abe Lincoln's cabin on it.)
  4. Um...sure... Have you ever seen your name up in lights?
  5. "I thought it was for 'stress testing.'" (Mechanic) Not to worry---Terminator is built with a generous amount of nice, flexible wood. Eric
  6. "Wait, do you have to be a member of ACE to attend?" (CreditCrazy) SFMM contacts our local ACE rep, who in turn sends out an e-mail to local members announcing the event and telling us that there are just so many spots open, so first come, first served get in. Whether other groups are invited is not known to me. The whole point of having ACE members there is to fill the trains for video shoots for newscasts and still shots for the papers. Eric
  7. "Unless I change my last name to MacAurther and start smoking a corn cob pipe, I don't think I'd ever bring myself to wear a pair." (AllenA07) So then you'd be Allen McArthur, a smoker, and wear cool glasses. You just might draw some attention from the ladies... Eric
  8. ^ Do they handle the parking passes there, too? For Christmas, we got Diana the next AP down from the top level, and added parking. She still hasn't gotten the parking pass validated yet. I do know that on your first use, you pay the full parking fee, then take the receipt to...someplace...where you get your $12 back and the parking pass validated. Eric
  9. ^ That seems to be the norm for rides at SFMM. Media Day is on Thursday, then the ride opens to the public either the next day or on Saturday. On Media Day itself, once the media is done getting their shots, the new ride stays open till early afternoon with unlimited rides for those invited (usually ACE members). Eric
  10. "Passholders did get a preview night in '96 though" (bryceone) Yes, we did. We had to bring a special ticket that was mailed to us with our date and time on it to get in the park (it was closed to the public at the time). I thought it would entitle us to one ride on Superman, but it turned out to be unlimited rides. The park had Superman running at 90% power, which meant it wouldn't reach 100mph, but as fast as 90. As a bonus, Viper, Ninja, and Revolution were also open for this ERT. It happened to rain on the evening I was there, but everything still operated. S:TE in the rain is...interesting---and painful! Back to topic...I have never been to that gift shop, nor do I know when it was last open. If I recall, the sign was put up in 1972 or 1973. Eric
  11. "This might come off as REALLY cold, but I do not think ANYBODY should be coming up the exit ramp of a ride." (WFChris) That was cold---I got a chill reading it! But you're absolutely right; however, because rides like Riddler's Revenge and Goliath weren't originally designed to have such access, that was the only way that Flash Pass users could bypass the line. And even older attractions didn't even have an elevator in their queue, forcing wheelchair users to do the same. (I think Viper was the first ride at SFMM to have an elevator of some kind. The Americans With Disabilities Act [ADA] was passed in 1990, the same year that Viper opened.) Newer attractions will take "front of line" passes into consideration when their queues are designed. Eric
  12. ^ Los Cuates Mexican Grill. The tacos ain't bad there, actually. What I'm looking forward to is that once you enter the pre-show buildings, you aren't supposed to see the light of day till you're in the actual station. At least that's what Tim said during the tour. Eric
  13. My guess is that Terminator will have a Flash Pass queue built into it in some way. The only thing is that it might partially comple miss the pre-show buildings and kill the theme for those using it. But come May 21, we'll see... Eric
  14. ^ What you wrote in your signature actually says a lot---I don't think SFMM will have single rider lines just because that will cut down on the sales of the Flash Pass. And Six Flags certainly doesn't need that right now. That said, I still think SFMM ought to charge $200 for the Xtreme Pass because it'll still be worth it, and I even told Jay Thomas that one time. But with the recession and the perception of Six Flags by many as "not worth that much," such a price will not fly. Even at $200 for an entire year, the pass makes for a cheap babysitter for the locals at a mere $16.67 a month. Eric
  15. See? Oversized trucks and SUVs do have a purpose! Eric
  16. I went to USH on my birthday back in 2005. Though I can't remember the exact years, I've been to SFMM on my birthday a few times as well as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day on a few occasions. Eric
  17. As for Sir Reedith's post, I call sarcasm. Eric
  18. Nice TR, and your girl's a cutie. I don't think we have anything like this in California. It's probably illegal. Eric
  19. Tax refund from both Federal and State---and just enough to cover the CPA's fee! Eric
  20. ^ Plays paintball. < Plays Jezzball. V Plays on the freeway!
  21. A few times... Did you eat anything healthy today?
  22. "And Eric. Did you see the ride attendants name? Cause I know the crew on Goliath pretty well and they are all really sweet girls. It seems weird that they would be snotty [to] you." (rawrtotheargh) As for the girl's name, I really don't remember what it was, and as I said, I chose not to report her anyway. And after doing some thinking, I decided that perhaps what I perceived as "snotty" just may have been her exhaustion from running in the station all day. Goliath was running three trains and not stacking any, so you know she'd been hustling and most likely not intentionally rude to me. After doing some thinking about this---and I actually had a hard time sleeping because of it (think I need a life?)---I've decided that I am not going to do the single rider thing anymore until/unless the park actually designates a single rider line at any attraction. Besides, I go often enough to where if I don't ride a certain ride on one visit, I can the next time. One thing I will say in my defense is that as the lady at GR said, the park has discontinued the policy. And you can't discontinue something that never was. SFMM was indeed trying out a single rider policy, and a number of times I was greeted by an attendant with, "Single rider?" without my saying a word. Eric
  23. "RCDB.com is wrong then. It says 144'" (tgadams) I was at Viper's media day event and got a press kit. It says the first loop is 140' high, the second loop is 62' high, and the third one is 90' high. (I assume that's the distance from the ground to the highest point of the loop.) But that's why I called it a "Nitpick Alert!" Eric
  24. ^ and ^^ Fair enough, and you are right. However, that does work well at other parks (in my experience), and it's something that I hope SFMM considers in the future. Eric
  25. ^ NITPICK ALERT! Viper's loop stands 140 feet high, not 144. Just for the record. I almost said that X2's first raven turn would be the tallest inversion---only it isn't an inversion, even though it appears to be. Riddler's first loop is 124 feet tall---definitely the biggest on a standup coaster, but I know later ones have been bigger. Eric
