After reading a few of the posts, especially the fanboy posts, I'm a bit discouraged. The park hasn't had a major attraction addition since 2003- and I'm stretching that quite a bit with PBR. The park has REMOVED a coaster, and yet to replace it with something (ANYTHING) to make up for it's loss. The waterpark has had a HANDFUL of changes and additions- and has just recently renovated their oldest slides in the park for re-use. And you're not seriously suggesting adding a small theme area with a couple of flat rides? A modern-era park needs to add a 'heavy' class of ride every three to four years in order to stay competitive in a market. When you have: A 305 foot tall, 94 MPH speed-monster with great coverage to the south, and a park adding it's 12th coaster to the north, you'd better be ready to handle the competition. To add a small re-themed area with a handful of attractions would be suicide in this market. SFA has made changes in the past few years to prepare for major works (I'm being optimistic here and giving the benefit of the doubt) such as a new coaster. The park doesn't need a new theme area with some flats. It needs a hard-core, bring them in through the front gate and make them wait an hour or two coaster. SFA needs to make a statement that says "We're here, and we mean BUSINESS." Anything less, and they should just send in the bulldozers now and get it over with.

That looks great, and hopefully sooner or later we'll actually FIGURE OUT what that freakin' thing is for HP; I know I've shed enough blood sweat and tears over figuring it out! -

I'm going out on a hefty limb here after doing a few 'look-sees' at the plot of ground- and some things I've read on Screamscape... Lance at Screamscape reported that B&M were in consideration for 2012's new attraction- and I thought about this for a second: SFA does NOT have a really high-capacity 'looping' coaster, nor any real 'standard' type of looping coaster. After looking over the old Typhoon Seacoaster/Skull mountain site; I thought about it further- Please forgive the crappy graphics on it- but what about THIS? (It might be a Dark Knight before it happens- but a compact B&M Floorless Looping... A hunch- what do you think? Like I said, Just a hunch- but I think I'm on the right course here. R.D.

Not bad at all, if I do say so myself. Although the speculation will continue for a while- that looks like a decent guess... (BTW: From the 'hints' we've been receiving from HP/R.I.T. it's 5500 feet long, 212 ft. tall with a 196 ft. drop.) -

You're not the only one who posted something similar to that- as I did the same. If anything, HW is a family park- with family attractions (Save 'Voyage') where building a 'ginormous 29 inversion floorless launched woodie' would be a HUGE mistake- but rather: K.I.S.S.- Keep it simple and smart. (There's another acronym for that- I know). Loch Ness Monster, Tennessee Tornado (Scaled down, of course) and HersheyPark's sdL were at the top of my 'list' as well as some of the better small to medium class coasters out there. I keep seeing Intamin pop up- and as much as I like Intamin rides, I think they would have to scale back the intensity on them to truly create a smaller-scale ride. (If Arrow were still around, and this was 1979, I'd have put them at the TOP of the list to do it!) -
Six Flags Over Texas History Q & A
QueerRudie replied to cleusk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Right- but the Hanna Barbera portions that were noted for the Banana Splits were actually removed in 1969- and moved to the Coney Island park for filming. Taft was working very hard to make the Kings Island project a reality- and at the same time, Six Flags didn't like the indirect competition! R.D. -
Six Flags Over Texas History Q & A
QueerRudie replied to cleusk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Actually- this is incomplete and erronius information. Sid and Marty Kroft's participation in this was actually very minimal- The Banana Splits was shot as part of a stage show by Hanna Barbera productions, out of Cincinatti, Ohio, from 1968-1970. For the first year, a handful of shots (Mainly the musical scenes) were shot at SFOT- but the remainder of the shots were done at Coney Island. After that, the show was produced in conjumtion with another Taft enterprise- Coney Island, Cincinatti, Oh. Sid and Marty Kroft's only participation in the production was that of creating the costumes- which were in turn based upon Hanna Barbera characters. The show itself was a foray into the animated-live television format for HB productions. The reason that they were 'evivted' from SixFlags parks? Well... In 1969, it was made clear that Taft was planning a new 'theme park' of sorts for Cincinatti, OH... one to be called Kings Island. -
Official RCT/RCT2 Help Thread

That's easy: 1.) When you're ready to take a picture, Click on the menu on the upper left hand corner (The one that looks like a floppy disk)- you'll see an option for "Take A Screenshot" It will save as SCR001.BMP- That's your first picture. From there, it's saved in the RollerCoasterTycoon2 directory. When you setup your thread, Describe your park (USE SPELL CHECK AND CORRECT GRAMMAR!) and down below the window you will find an option tab for "Post Photos or Files" Add your pictures from your RollerCoasterTycoon2 directory there- and give a brief and PROPERLY SPELLED description. When you're done with that, click on 'Submit' and show off your works! R.D. Games Forum Moderating Team -
^ Thank G-D for that one... That was a major source of endless ridicule...

Very nice, K&M. The modifications are well worth it- although in light of Verbolten's development, I have an idea... Where you used to have a LSM launch on a bridge- why not modify that, and have the train eject from a tunnel side- onto a 'covered' bridge effect- and then down towards the canyon/river floor- the ultimate 'Bridge out' sort of effect... Just my .02 worth- R.D.

OK: Here's a prototype for 'weighting averages' for the ToTW contest. YOU NEED EXCEL FOR THIS! This is a simple 'starter' equasion set based upon the freqency of direct yield equasion used for pricing airplane seats (Yes, it's why you pay 2500.00 for a walkup ticket and less than 99.00 for a 3 week in advance purchase ticket). This one is modififed a bit to fit our needs here for the ToTW contest. How to use it: Open up excel, and read across: The column headings are "Day Uploaded" "Number of Votes" "Average Votes" And "weighted Average" Pick the day of the week the track was uploaded (Say, Day 6 (Wednsday) and then enter what the exchange says (Average score, 2.5 stars) and Number of votes (6). The 'weighted average score pops up on the end- with a bit of a kicker- the earlier on you vote, the higher the overall score- thus, weighting it in favor of people uploading earlier- and thus increasing the score. This is just a TEST MODEL, however- I've got a numbers person on it to do a 'penalty/bonus' equaison that will work better in the future. R.D. ToTW worksheet 1.0.xlsx

That is a very interesting layout and design; although I'd refine a few of the 'tighter' radius curves a bit- as they say 'bang bang bang bang' to me (The sounds of heads slapping into restraints!). Otherwise, the scenery is great- and I look forward to seeing more of your work. R.D. Games forum Moderating team

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
QueerRudie replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I thought about this before I posted my ideas up... 1.) Look at Dollywood or Busch Gardens Williamsburg: Their terrain coasters fit perfectly into the park- and are glass smooth designs all over. PLus, they look like they 'belong' in their respective theme areas, and fit the mood of the park. While I'd love to see a Schwarzkopf clone (I can hear the 'DUH' comments now... you know who you are!) I don't think they'd be right for HW's needs and wants- it's a family park, after all- so that should be an aspect of thought in creating a park's design in general. (Unless they were to snap up Revolution at a good price, and move it to Indiana. Then I'd be hiring a moving van!) R.D. -

All one needs to do is send us the link, as A.J. posted- we can do the rest. People tend to think we're not here: In fact, most of us are on here at one point or another EVERYDAY to fix things for the exchange and forum- however, if we don't get a PM or an E-Mail with things in it, we can't fix the problems along the way. Posting in our forums- yes, we read them- but without the actual ITEM NEEDED, we can't do anyting about it... R.D. Games Forum Moderating Team -

BEST. RESPONSE. EVER. I'm not a fan of SFA; haven't been a fan of them in quite a while- and while I've had issues with the park in the past, I can say seeing positive signs of changes are a good thing: Zoomazon falls, for example, being renovated and upgraded- the addition of a Thom...er... kiddyland area, etc. But like Chuck said: We'll see. I honestly think the park is still in desperate need of major upgrades of attractions: Yes, it's an OK mix of rides- coaster wise, to go from seven to six and not offer an immediate replacement is a bit of a sin, I think. (The same thing could be said for CGA for that matter!) While they were putting in all those infrastructure upgrades (Which, if the 'excuse-o-meter' is correct, have been going on now for nearly six years now) they neglected the park as a whole, adding very few attractions, and not really doing anything to attract newer parks. Now, let's look at the parks around SFA, since 2001 (The year SFA added their last coaster) Hersheypark has added three coasters (Including ProjectX/2012's ride,) a whole new waterpark, and numerous other improvements along the way. Busch Gardens Williamsburg: Removed a car attraction and replaced it with Griffon, lost a coaster (BBW) but is replacing it with a new one, Verbolten, for 2012 Kings Dominion: Renovated the park, upgraded facilities, added Ricochet, Hypersonic (Since removed), Dominator, The Italian Backlot, and I-305, upgraded the waterpark... If anything, the park is now feeling the heat- as to go another year without a new attraction of note would be insane to be polite- and downright brainless. When you have blockbuster additions all around you, and you fail to keep up, you're asking for trouble all around- and asking for problems in the future. I could understand a year or mabye two for infrastructure upgrades. But six is ridiculous, and to say 'well, we're not able to add anything until it's fixed' is bogus. If anything: It's a weak excuse. The downslide has stopped, the park is looking a bit better- but the ship still needs to be driven back to shore.
