  1. I am reminded of an old episode of Roseanne- when David went to work for a 'theme park' and he was 'altered' to fit their personality a bit... The last scene is the de-programming of David, with Rosie duct-taping him down to a chair- and interrogating him. (Not that Disney's mentality is wrong, I actually like it for the most part). As for me: I work in the Airline industry- in the part which is referred to as the 'Satan worshippers' of the company- Yield Management. Although there are many rumors, the parts about the burnt offerings and drinking of goat blood are somewhat false- the parts about the ouija board and rituals of self-sacrifice for screw ups are considered normal! Thus, why I tend to be more 'brusque' than others... and why I don't tend to put up with guff.
  2. I tend to look at it this way: I don't like people who mistreat, are mean, demean, or are rude- to me or to other people. His response in his thread towards you was downright rude- and that's something that NONE of us should tolerate. I think he got the message- as he was actually polite towards me in chat last eve, so perhaps he's done with his attitude now. I can understand people getting picked on, etc. as I was in the beginning- but for me, it was self-defense fighting back, rather than becoming nasty or mean. I thought how he responded to you was not appropriate- to a Mod, or to anyone else for that matter- thus I issued him the time-out to cool his jets. You asked him to post pics up to the forum directly, he gave an attitude back of 'I'm better than that, and I don't wannna' which I found truly offensive. (And in all reality, I don't mind being the 'grumpy' Mod, either... it fits my personality!)
  3. Agreed- but someday somebody will make a high-G woodie that pleases me... I can only HOPE for it, can't I?
  4. While stuck at LAX for a missed connection, I was thinking about this for a bit... Let's theme it up for a bit to see what happens- that is, a "Recreate me" summer theme. Each week, we give a game, and then a particular ride that we like: I.E. Arrow's Loch Ness Monster- and then see what people come up with. Each week, a different ride, a different game, etc. to work with, and up the ante a bit with the prizes over the summer (TPR Bags of Crap, etc.) The other thing was to change the points give-out for people who enter: The winner will still get 250 points, but we can use the ratings system I wrote to 'add a bonus' for all who enter: The score they get when the numbers are run will be converted into points that they get for entering. Another thought: Rotate the ToTW from Tuesday to Wednsday start/end. I'd be better able to help with the ToTW scoring system that way (Tuesdays and Thursdays are my 'office' days, so I'm not easily able to run the scoring system). I'll be putting a thread into the forum about the new scoring system under the stickies as I'm off today (ear infections sucketh big time) and re-writing the formulas to be easier for us to use over the duration per A.J.'s suggestions.
  5. 6.8gs? What's wrong with that? A good Anton Schwarzkopf coaster does that... R.D. "Give me G's, or give me MORE G's" Sussmann Games Forum Moderating Team Do note that Schwarzkopfs only sustain that for pretty much a second. Also, the most G's ever on a Schwarz is 6.5, which lasts for an instant before it starts dropping near zero as the 3-car train of Mindbender moves to the top of the loop. Holding 6.8G's for more than a couple seconds would pretty much black out everyone on the train. Sorry. Pulling out my Schwarzkopf-fanboy mindset here... Anton's Mindbender forces are highest in the third loop- when originally opened with the six car trains (The three lead car trains were not added till after the accident), the trains pulled 7.1gs entering the third (40ft diameter) loop- and were 4.86 at the top of the loop. The Gs sustained over the course NOW are at the highest once again at the base of the third loop- and read in at 6.75-6.90 depending on the velocity of the train entering the loop. The shorter trains, however, maintain the higher G loads through the loop (4.90 at the top of the inversion). In addition, the first and second rotary dives (the first drop, the third drop) start off at .98gs at the start- and round down to a 5.5g push across the bottom. You are correct that it's sustained for a brief second on each end of the inversion- but the G loads are consistantly high. 6.8 gs may cause grey-outs, but the real fun doesn't start till 7.0 or higher, save people who are prone to G-LOC.
  6. One itty-bitty-teenie-weenie criticism... In the first screen posted- you call the ride Invectus... (wait for it...) In the last screen, the sign in front of the ride reads 'Invective' (Otherwise- REALLY digging the color scheme for it- it 'pops' off the picture plane, and adds some color to the area!) And yes- pm me on how to do custom supports within RCT II; my Giga-lite coaster for RLP Milwaukee is in DIRE need of it! R.D.
  7. Leafy Lake TPR challenge v 1.0 is in the works; after some searching, digging and dust removal, I was able to find my original RCT I disks, and installed it to adapt in the RCT II scenario engine. I was a bit shocked to see just how primitive the RCT I looked on my machine (I'm using Win7 and a machine that's pretty powerful) and it was a shock to the senses there for a bit. The concept behind the 'new' Leafy Lake challenge is this: C.P.M. and his friend Mr. Peabody (and his boy Sherman) take a trip back in time to Medival England, where Mr. Peabody defeats a knight for his castle and land. Finding out C.P.M. could use the land in the future, we travel back to present day- and C.P.M. has begun to setup the park. In order to succeed, though, you need land- and the park itself isn't too big. You can buy land- but Mr. Peabody has raised the prices on it to staggering levels- so be careful how much you need. The objective is open-ended, so our 'scenery' junkes will have a field day- but I'm setting a -year- limit of 10 for the base objective of 12,000 per month in revenue from ride sales. Not too easy- but not hard, either, and I'll start promoting the park up sometime today or tommorow for next week's early on release.
  8. Holy hell- That's a TPR Challenge scenario waiting to happen... And 3.00 for an all-day Monorail pass? That's a bargain, even with park admission. There is so much space they could use to turn the park into a Busch-Gardens scale project- with rides, shows, etc. to bring in the guests. It's the perfect storm of space, size and drive that could make this a great destination in the future.
  9. Wait. I don't belive you. At all. There were no obligitory line-shots of long, painful waits. It wasn't Fuji-Queue. You went to another park in another dimension. And- about this, Robb- WTF? Why is she bleeding? Were you TOO rough on your Boob credit???
  10. Agreed. While it's an interesting title to view, it's not really a clue- as all those other titles are related to other rides at AT. Now if it were, oh, say, something like A 'viral' marketing clue like THIS. then I'd take that as a clue. Basically I'd call this "Nothing to see here, move along please."
  11. 6.8gs? What's wrong with that? A good Anton Schwarzkopf coaster does that... R.D. "Give me G's, or give me MORE G's" Sussmann Games Forum Moderating Team
  12. Derek, Your new mine train makes me smile. EXCELLENT re-creation of Arrowism in it's finest.
  13. Drachen Fire, which had the lights alongside the cars themselves, had a battery pack that was mounted to the end of the #7 car- and which had to be plugged in at the end of each night to keep charged. It worked- sort of- as the circuits often had some 'issues' with the cords not connecting right.
  14. I've put TLM in the corner for 24 hours- perhaps NOW he'll learn that his bullshit is NOT going to be tolerated anymore in the Games Forum. I hate doing things like that- but I'm really sick of his "I'm better than you, so deal with ME" attitude- it's time for that shit to stop. Now.
  15. I'm about 30 seconds from issuing Matt a 'time out' for a few days- as the attitude he's shown towards you is offensive- not to mention his 'like I care' attitude is really REALLY grating on me. That's not appropriate for anybody to say "Well, I use multiple sites, so no." You have a VALID point- and if we can't see it, we can't read it. And then the whole "Well, I didn't really want to do it" attitude is ridiculous, to say the least. We (As moderators) need to keep people from being just plain rude. And he's approaching a rather 'critical' mass of rudeness- and that's plain intolerable.
  16. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. LAX. (Did I say LAX?)
  17. It does- and some people have been cashing in their vouchers along the way. (Sideline note: I'll be posting up the points bonus for the entries in the TPR Challenge tommorow- I'm about to head to the Airport (And a lengthy delay) to head to L.A. and back to Phoenix tommorow.)
  18. If anything I think of it this way: Once FASTrack is up and running, it would be a good way for people to earn points- so killing it off isn't necessarily (at least to me!) the best option. Promotion seems to be the key issue here, and that's one of those 'funky' things. The Games forum is still developing traffic- but it's a thing of where it does tend to get lost around the end of the TPR challenges. Where we're seeing an upswing in interest in the Challenges, the ToTW seems to be an afterthought during the voting for the challenges. Perhaps we should suspend the ToTW during the weeks of the TPRC voting- that is, make it a 'two week' TPR challenge for those weeks, and then an easy-in for the rest of the time- at least for now. I sometimes wish we could also promote them via the general 'forum' as a sticky or something- that way we can gain additional traffic during the week. Or do a tie-in with current 'events' within the general forum- a cross-tie with a trip, or related. Some other suggestions I've been getting from some of the gaming forum people is to have them come up with challenges- and then we can revise them to fit the needs of the forum itself. We're just getting rolling, and as great as the promotions are, we are still developing the market a bit. Mabye raising the ante a bit (TPR bags of crap) for the next month or two as the prize to the TOTW contest would be in our best interest. That way we don't feel like we're over-doing it, but rather, gaining interest until FASTrack goes live in September. Considering the amount of work that you put into this- along with Robb, Derek, A.J. and myself- as well as others- it's come a long way. (Basically, my 'Don't give up the ship yet' speech- as much as I can do!) Let's try TPR Bags of Crap, and do a 'recreate it' challenge type thing for the next couple of weeks: It's easy, people can install things as they see it being, and go from there. I.E. "TOTW this week: Recreate your favorite B&M in RCT II" The prize: A TPR Bag of Crap and see if that gains some promotions. The kids are out of school- but they're not all working, and in many cases, are sitting around. We simply need to drill it into their skulls for a bit. Movie tie-ins will be a plus as well- going for a 'Pirates of the Carribean water-coaster" or a "Transformers: THE RIDE" contest with a given track might also sell well. The TPR challenge this time went very well- despite the lower attendance to the Games Forum- and I'd be happy to get CPM involved as well- all you need to do is say what you'd like me to push!
  19. Perhaps it's time to up the ante a notch... Idea: A 'special edition' ToTW contest where the people who entered the TPR challenges sumbit their favorite ride for points?
  20. This happened with the last TPR challenge overlapping with the ToTW contest- I'd say extend it, but that's sort of a moot point with just two entries. Voting's done in a few minutes- If you want to extend it, I'll have CPM post the ToTW contest in the 'winners' thread.
  21. If you consider the time-frame of technolology leaps, it mirrors that of most other innovations: An example- From 1903-1933, airplanes went from 36 MPH to 210 MPH, and from 0 Passengers, to 21. From 1933-1948, airplanes went from 210 MPH to 480 MPH, and from 21 passengers to 100 From 1948-1960, airplanes went from 480 MPH to 650 MPH, and from 100 passengers to 189 (Or more). From 1960-1969, airplanes went from 189 passengers to 500, and from 650 MPH to 1250 MPH. It's not entirely about the innovation not being there- considering that 36 years ago, we had JUST returned to going upside down again- and look how far we've lept since then. From two inversions to 10; from 70 ft. to 459 ft, from 40 MPH to 129 MPH. That's in 35 years or so, no less. Rides are still innovating- but there's two elements that prevent the 'giant leaps' forward that I think a lot of people expect: 1.) Cost of technology, and 2.) Physical restrictions. First, cost: Each step forward in ride tech we make is costly; look at how much money was pumped into the 4th Dimension coaster at Arrow/S&S; or how much money Intamin and Premier pumped into LIM/LSM technologies- Premier is just now making money of the LIM/LSM technology they helped to innovate 15 years ago. In the second, the human body has tolerance levels that cannot be exceeded- pushed, yes, but not exceeded. I'm a -severe- Schwarzkopf Junkie (I can hear the 'NO, NO WAY. NOT HIM" sighs now..) and I love the higher G forces that His rides produce- but let's face it: That's not what the General Public want- they want it with more 'family-friendly' Gs and speed. Thus, rides have slowed down in the levels they push the envelope. It's all about that, really. We're going to see innovation- but not in the same way we did 35 years ago plus.
  22. I'm in a 'cruelty and punishment' mood. RCT III TOGO Standup or Vekoma Inverted- The one with the most abusive ride wins. (Sorry- I have to go to LA today. I'm in a rotten mood.)
  23. Braz- Love the coaster... but the name??? As much as meteorology is good for finding coaster names, Thermo-cline just doesn't ring any bells for me- and it makes me think of a La-Z-Boy recliner, or something akin to a home health-care bed. Otherwise, the ride itself is amazing; the CS on the supports is tremendous (BTW: Seeking some help with Intamin A.G. supports for a giga-project) and I think the ride will be tremendous at the end of the day.
  24. OK: If I ever get the balls to open up my own restaurant...I'm calling these dudes in to build the systems for delivery- that and Intamin A.G. I want MY food served to ME inverted!
  25. Based upon the quantity and number of coasters of size going up in the 2012 calendar year... Something is in the water. "Caution parents of theme parks: Do you know where your park is? Pregnancies are appearing at an alarming rate, and your park TOO could be at risk like these other, unwed parks" Cut to footage of BGW, HP, Dollywood, Knotts, Canada's Wonderland, etc. "Don't be a park owner in shame. Be sure to prevent Unwanten Pregnancies" at YOUR park.
