Favorite Photos YOU Have Taken
haux replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Of the thousands of pictures I've taken of coasters, this is one of my favorites. It took about 10 minutes to time it right. Top Thrill Dragster -
Kennywood Swing Shot too dangerous?

I hate broadcast journalism for this very reason: sensationalism. -

Before riding this thing, I can say that a day ride with your seat belt tightly fastened and holding on tight in the front seat will beat a backseat, no-selt-belt, hands-up, nighttime ride on The Beast. Holiday World knows what brakes do. They know that rides can be designed without them (save for Voyage's block brake), and they know how to make a spectacular ride. The real battle with me will be my No. 1 woodie Legend and Voyage. -

Considering a return to CP...
haux replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sundays in June are when the park is amazingly empty. I have no idea why, but I've been able to walk on nearly everything but Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster on Sundays in June. In two Sundays in a row, I rode Raptor 97 times. Take that as you want. -
Overrated coasters in your opinion
haux replied to Deadromanticx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have to go with Montu. It's always high on polls, and I just don't see it. It's forceless, there are long stretches of track between inversions, and the batwing was bland. That's probably because the trim was on, but one ride was enough to tell me to get back on Kumba. -
Magic Mountain Artifacts

That is awesome. I had no idea someone got all this great stuff. It's also sort of a shame to see that SFMM doesn't have some of that cool stuff anymore. -

To the people who contacted me: Can you contact me again or reply to my e-mails or PMs? I really only have one strong applicant so far because no one else is really following through. Please send me an e-mail or PM so I can continue answering your questions and so my editor in chief and I can have a meeting with you. -
^ You're guessing that it's Photoshopped? She's clear, the picture behind her is of worse quality. There are more jpeg artifacts in it. That's absolutely hilarious. How dumb. Are the citizens of New Orleans going to be fooled? Is it that hard to go out and take a picture in your city? Or even get an old picture of the city and Photoshop yourself in it? Come on.

This makes me laugh because you can't predict the future!

It's still at Rillito Downs. They're not moving it back because it's too large for campus now, and Rillito Downs has better handicapped access.

Tusenfryd Discussion Thread

The brake fins don't run the entire length of the launch track. They look like they only go about three-fifths of the way. And the final brake run looks really short. There's a picture looking in the station, and it looks like the last turn practically goes into the station. I guess the brakes don't have to be so long because the trains are short. -

A new Intamin has problems! More at 11! -
Every spring, my old school puts on a really big carnival. It's billed as the largest student-run carnival in the country. It's the University of Arizona's Spring Fling. Every year they add a new ride or two. Last year it was a lame Booster, which they didn't have this year. This year it was a Techno Jump and a Slingshot. The Slingshot was $20 a person, so I didn't ride. Shame. I've never ridden a Slingshot. I went with some friends, and we got in for free with our student IDs. We paid $20 for a wristband that let us on everything but the Slingshot. We started on the Inverter. These rides are really fun. We sat on the right side in the front row. When the ride reversed direction, we were facing the ground when it dropped down. I love that part. Next we went on MegaDrop. This is easily my favorite ride at Spring Fling. They added it in 2003 or 2004, and it's been there ever since. You get a good view of Tucson or the Santa Catalina Mountains, depending on what side you're sitting on. Because it was night, we couldn't see much. The last time I rode this, they held us up there for nearly two minutes! It was crazy. This time we were at the top for about 20 seconds. The one bad thing about MegaDrops is you know when you're about to drop because there's a click right before the hook releases. We went on the Super Himalaya next. It only ran backward, but it ran really fast. The operators started unhooking the harnesses before the ride came to a complete stop. Crazy. I'm not one for spin 'n' pukes, so I sat out while my friends rode the Starship 2000 and Spin Out. The operator on Spin Out stood in the middle of the platform underneat the ride as it was still in motion! He stood there as the huge arm was coming down before stopping. The operations at this place have never left me too amused. We went on the Yo-Yo next. These things are fun. When it did the little dipping motion, the seats got really close. I liked yelling things at my friends as their seats came in contact with mine. We went on a Laff in the Dark next. These things are fun. There was a painting on it of a woman showing her boobs. Hot. Inside the dark portions, there are rubber things in your way. You can't see them, so I thought someone was touching my face. Ick. We went on the Goliath Slide because it's funny. It's just a big three-lane racing slide. We got our bags and went to the top of the narrow staircase. The side I sat on had gaps between the sections at least an inch wide. When I went down, I could feel every gap. Ouch. My friend Drew won. I lost. Haha. We went inside another fun house, this time a house of mirrors. My friends don't like these because they said they make them look stupid. I wandered around and took pictures of them and myself. I turned around because I didn't like following them. That was easy. I wanted to find my own way! The top had all the funny mirrors, and it ended with a spiral slide. My friends went on the Orbiter. I don't think I'll ever ride one of these things. That would make me insanely dizzy and sick. We circled around to MegaDrop once more. We were only at the top for about 15 seconds. This time I actually had a little tickle in my stomach. We hopped on the Yo-Yo again and then decided to call it a night. Spring Fling is a lot of fun. I wish they'd add a little roller coaster some time in the near future. A spinning mouse or something like that could be a great addition. Spring Fling is run by Ray Cammack Shows, which runs tons of fairs and carnivals. A few of them have coasters, so I guess there is potential for a coaster. The reason you clicked on this thread: boobs. A look at most of Spring Fling from the house of mirrors. Something every carnival has: a Ferris wheel That's my friend trying to look fat in the mirror that makes you look fat. That's me in the mirror. Yes, I brought a tripod. Yes, I am a huge nerd. Yo-Yo This is the carnie on Spin Out; the guy who stood under the ride as it was coming down! Spin Out Goliath Slide. I'm the one losing on the left. Starship 2000 Apparently this thing goes 70 mph Mega Drop Chance Inverter

Have you ever gone to a park alone?
haux replied to arlen23's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I used to go to Cedar Point on days off or when I had time off. A lot of the time it would be by myself. I'd run into friends because we all worked together, but I'd spend most of the time by myself. One of these days I want to be the weirdo who wanders around the park by himself. It's not that hard. I have plenty of fun. -
Hello, fellow TPR members. I'm Alex, aka "Chip" at ThrillNetwork. I'm the lead story editor over there. I applied for a newspaper internship last semester in school, and I was assigned to The Denver Post. I'll be editing at The Post for 10 weeks over the summer. After that, I'll be looking for a full-time job or a career. I'm posting this (with Robb and Elissa's permission) because I need someone to replace me. I need someone who loves theme parks and roller coasters. I need someone who knows journalism or story writing. Someone who can edit would be great, too. This position can also go on a resume. If you want to inquire about the position, send me a PM here, at TN or send me an e-mail at chip@thrillnetwork.com. Here's a picture of Top Thrill Dragster to lure your attention. Dragster with a neat red sunset.

Are you an official ACEer?

I'm in ACE. I enjoy the magazines. I haven't been to any events, though I did work at Cedar Point during some Coaster Manias and Coaster Con. -

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
haux replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Quoted in case of future edits. Why would they announce anything during the middle of the season? They haven't done that any time recently. Heck, Top Thrill Dragster was nearly built before they announced it! -
Hey Robb, wanna hear something funny?

CoasterBuzz threads always become a circlejerk of "Jeff's a jerk," "CoasterBuzz sucks," "I got banned." Bah. It's old. RRC does enough of that. -
Favorite Coaster at Cedar Point?
haux replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This thread seems familiar, but that could be because I'm a member of tons of sites. Raptor gets my vote. It's the only coaster I've ridden more than 700 times.
