What area really needs a theme park?
SFOGdude25 replied to let1gre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nashville. Been lamenting the loss of Opryland since 1997. -
No way Mind Bender is going anywhere. I REALLY hate to say this, but I think it might be the Sky Buckets. How come? Well, where does one of the stations sit? Lickskillet. What used to be in Lickskillet but has now been essentially removed this season? WhistleStop Park. The playground that used to be there is now in Boomtown, and word on the street is that the train ride has been SBNO for a couple of seasons now. That is the ideal spot for a new attraction since that section of the park is now pretty dead. Of course I'd be pretty sad (or rather, my feet would be pretty sad haha) that Sky Buckets could go away, because it is a GREAT mode of transportation across a VERY hilly park. At least we still have a train though to cover that need.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

Double post, but here's my concept based on the leaked layout. This is a speedy, ground-hugging woodie that lasts roughly 45 seconds from the top of the lift to the brakes. It doesn't look overly intense, but it is very tight and twisty, and would make for a nice mid-size coaster for the park. I placed the coaster where I think it would go in the park (pardon the other unfinished coasters LOL). I think the lift hill would run roughly parallel to the train station while the bulk of the layout would run parallel to Diamondback. Stats: About 105 feet tall Just under 3,000 feet long Top speed of 51 mph The ride features 15 airtime moments, and a 90 degree banked turnaround. PLEASE NOTE: I do not claim that this is what Kings Island will be getting in 2017. It is a rough concept based purely on what has been leaked so far. For all we know those plans may not even be legit, but for now, enjoy this concept. I'd be pretty stoked if we got something similar to this. -

Currently working on a concept coaster in NL2 based on the leaked blue print. Hope to have it up by tonight. -

^If they haven't done so already, Holiday World should probably keep a sharp eye on Ghostrider's performance this year, as that could potentially be a great solution for Voyage. All new track, minor reprofiling, and millennium flyers, or even PTC-360s. -

LOL I always seem to be a little late to discoveries like this. It looks great! Looks like Prowler 2.0! I'm gonna enjoy the fact that my first prediction was right for the next 5 minutes. -

Cedar Point is wise enough to know that even with a comprehensive reprofiling of the ride, along with new track being laid, that this alone is not enough to cure the core issue with Mean Streak. With a GCI makeover you will get maybe one good season out of it, but in the end you still have a ride that will tear itself apart due to its size. It's simply the reality with large wooden coasters and their dynamics. Maintaining large, 150+ foot wooden coasters that provide a "positive" rider experience on a regular basis is extremely costly and labor intensive. If Mean Streak is in fact getting a "refurbishment" there are three primary goals Cedar Point is almost certainly looking to accomplish if they're going to be making this type of investment: 1) Drastically reduced annual maintenance costs 2) Increase overall attendance 3) Increased and sustained ridership. There are no viable options that will accomplish all three of those for a multiple seasons besides an RMC makeover. Good call. It is true that RMC is the best option. -

Raven always has the longest line early in the morning since it's right by the entrance to the park, so if you want to hit the coasters first, start with Legend then make your way to Voyage and Thunderbird, and wait to hit Raven until after the water park opens. All the coaster wait times actually die down quite a bit once the water park opens, so if you're willing to wait a bit to ride them, you could also go straight to 4th of July at opening and ALL the flats there will be walk-ons. Get to the water park before rope drop and go STRAIGHT to Mammoth, as it consistently has the longest line in just about the whole park, then hit Wildebeest. From there the other slides never have terrible waits so feel free to go where you wish afterwards. Hope you have a great time! -

Actually I think NTAG and Iron Rattler have 6 cars per train. Same as other RMC's. Anyways, what's not to say Cedar Point could call in GCI to totally change the layout of Mean Streak? Surely if they can add new elements to a wood coaster (see Legend and Boulder Dash), why couldn't they do a reprofile project on the scale of an RMC? It's not that I don't want RMC to come and redo Mean Streak. I'm just saying that RMC could potentially not be the only option. Who's to say GCI couldn't make the first drop tighter and steeper, add more hills, lower the high turnarounds etc. It could be done. -
The most rare coaster credits

Mine would be the Mini Rock'n'Roller Coaster at Opryland according to Coaster-Count. Was my first roller coaster. I must have been 4 or 5 when I did it. Others are Viper at SFOG, and Scooby's Ghoster Coaster at KI -

I still say GCI wood coaster, or at least that's what I'm hoping for. Remember that traditional woodies are far less expensive than steel coasters, so it's not like this would be considered a mega $20-30 million investment. I would think it would be closer to $10 million. Plus it would be great for Kings Island to have a true modern woodie, one that is fast-paced and full of tight twists, turns, and airtime. Neither Racer or Beast offer that kind of experience. -

I'm gonna guess POV glasses since he hit record in the station. But yeah Dollywood is extra strict about cameras on rides. They say "no gopros" in their ride spiels after all. -
Your coaster ranking Hot Buttons?
SFOGdude25 replied to Buckeye Brad's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Speed and pacing are probably my biggest hot buttons for a good coaster. Sure airtime is nice, but things like quickly paced transitions, turns, drops, loops etc. are what really make me have a blast. -
