Golly, poor poor Lightning Rod... Such an amazing roller coaster, but I sure do hope Dollywood can get it going reliably soon. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
SFOGdude25 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really love Holiday World for what it is. I've visited every year since Voyage opened in 2006 as I live really close to the park, and I'm a big wood coaster fan, so Holiday World just gives me a fun local park to ride some amazing woodies (plus my favorite wing coaster). I tend to visit the park as a regular guest most of the time, and I've only done Holiwood Nights once. I'll be back this year though, and I'm excited. IMO, Holiday World is best visited when the water park is open since Splashin' Safari is one of the best water parks around, especially with 2 kick-ass water coasters. Without the water park open and with light crowds, Holiday World is easily a half-day park, nothing more. They just don't have enough attractions to justify staying a full day or longer if you're visiting from out of town. I tend to circle the park once, ride everything I want to, then just ride the coasters to my heart's content until I get bored, or until the park closes, whichever comes first lol. No way does it surpass Cedar Point in my eyes, and while it still does have a bit of that small park charm, I will say that a LOT of the original feel of the park died when Will died and the ownership shifted. It's just the truth. Still a good park, just not the same as it was before 2010. Bill, if you've never been, then you'll have fun trying out all the rides and water park if willing to check it out. Voyage is still my favorite traditional wood coaster, and the ride collection, while small, is still pretty good. Check out the Plymouth Rock Cafe, too, if it's open. It's got some pretty good thanksgiving style food. -

Not to mention the legitimately good airtime in the back seat on the first drop through the tunnel. Yeah, Tornado rocks. -

So when I was looking at that newest picture from CP Food Blog, I started thinking. What if they put a small dive loop right there and head back the same direction? Not sure if that would happen, but that's the first thing that popped in my head when I saw the banking of those ledgers. -

Hey guys, semi relevant considering some of the posts on this page, but I just completed a very in-depth review of The Beast on my blog. I've love to hear your thoughts on it! THE BEAST REVIEW: Still the most radically unique wooden coaster to ever exist -

Actually I've noticed in a couple of pictures the previous run to the final brakes has been cut and shaped to resemble small speed hills (you have to look REALLY closely). Plus the midcourse brakes are most likely staying given the ledgers placed there are straight and flat. I don't think they're done yet. -

Can I just take a moment to say how much it blows my mind how RMC can figure out exactly where their track needs to go on an already existing structure?? There is definitely some CRAZY engineering going on behind the scenes that makes all this possible. In fact when I was watching RMC's raptor promo video on Vimeo recently, I spotted some really cool blueprints of Twisted Colossus that showed how RMC created their own diagram of the original structure that also showed their own centerline path going through it. Again it's insane to me how they figured all of this out. It cannot be easy to re-engineer a structure originally built to handle completely different load bearings. As the pure roller coaster nerd that I am, I find this kind of stuff absolutely fascinating. -

Anyone else find it funny how Boulder Dash was designed and built by Custom Coasters, and reprofiled by Great Coasters AND Martin & Vleminckx? No? Just me? Ok. -

The ride looks amazing! Much needed addition to Kings Island. A nice, smooth, and speedy modern wood coaster. Love it. Can't wait to get on it next month! Also in regards to the shed... I think KI just out "Adventure Express"d Adventure Express. Honestly though it was a great way to sell tickets, and isn't that what good amusement park marketing should do? -

Looks really fun. I'll have to wait until next month to ride it myself, but man this gets me pumped! Especially the shed teaser at the end! -

Wasn't MF repainted not long ago? Over the course of a few seasons? -
Gemini is one of my absolute favorite coasters at Cedar Point. There's something about riding on the old-school Arrow track combined with the racing element interacting with the other train that gets me giggling quite a bit by the end. It's just fun. Pure classic amusement park fun.

Couple of things. 1. No way this'll be a dueling coaster. 2. If the joke was to make enthusiasts go insane, then it was a big success lol. -

Based on that teaser, I'm still betting this ride will be themed to Wild West rangers or sheriffs, the "law-abiding protectors of the frontier", here to take down the outlaw that's taken over the place (Maverick), and show the people who really runs Frontiertown. AKA one giant metaphor to show park goers which coaster really rules over the rest at Cedar Point. You know in a lot of the leaked photos on the internet, I thought I spotted a drone. The pictures were too poor to really tell, but still how cool is it to see some legit footage released by the park this time around! -

Ok let me revise my statement. It depends on the coaster. The conversions can range from looking very nice (New Texas Giant), to looking like a bit of a mess (Twisted Colossus), and everything in between. This is just my opinion. I tend to prefer the LOOK of a classic wood coaster's swooping hills and turns as they were originally designed, but actual ride experience? RMC obviously. I guess that's all that really matters, huh? -

I think people are overthinking the whole extra structure left over thing. To me the new track looks like it's simply traversing away from and back to the old footprint. RMC may cut some of the old unnecessary structure away at some point, or they may just leave it there and call it a day. I don't know. I just know that converted RMCs by their very nature have never been the most aesthetically pleasing coasters since they reuse old structures that weren't designed to do those new elements originally, hence the left-over parts that are just kinda there, no longer supporting track. -

Not at all really. Seriously though watch it be Tony in disguise, and if it is, it might be the most genius marketing approach ever, at least to enthusiasts lol. -

A new picture leaked on Twitter today of the drop out of the reverse-banked turn, and it is just a drop out. No inversion here. The more I see of this ride, the more my jaw drops. I still can't believe an RMC (likely to be their largest ride yet) is coming to CP. All they need now is a GCI and I'll never leave the place LOL. -

I had a weird dream last night that I was riding Mystic Timbers on a train full of snarky coaster enthusiasts. The ride started strong but then got to the turn around and slowed down considerably. The whole train proceeded to boo loudly while I just started to feel sad that the ride didn't turn out very thrilling. Dream ended before I got to the shed lol. Hopefully the real ride will turn out better than my dream haha. I think the it'll at least be very good. The layout doesn't look quite as good as more twisty GCIs like Thunderhead, but Timbers looks like it'll have lots of fast-paced floater airtime and a few good twisty moments. I'm not expecting to be blown away by it, but it'll be a really solid addition to Kings Island. I've been asking for a GCI coaster at KI for years and this fits the bill well. Can't wait to marathon it at Coasterstock this year. -

Coasterbill my face pretty much looked exactly like yours on my first ride... and during my entire wait for my second ride. Seriously this ride is the textbook definition of balls to the wall nuts. I may have involuntarily yelled out of excitement sitting on the brake run after my first front seat ride as well. You know when a ride is just so f**king good you just have to yell for no reason? You all need to get your butts to Pigeon Forge and ride this.
